  1. My baby girl just turned 12 a few weeks ago. She's never been one to have more than semi-soft poo but is not given to bouts of diarrhea. This past week, she had the Big D all over the car. I was out of town and have not been able to monitor her output since. This morning, she turned her nose up at kibble (and has been less interested in kibble over the past month, but still eats it) but aain, sh ate it. Later, I found her leaking diarrhea on the couch. My go-to for non-explosive D is boiled turkey and rice. Is this still the right course? How long do I wait to see if it clears up before I check with the vet? Many thanks.
  2. Great pic! Neither of my dogs really get tired from walks and I'm not convinced they enjoy them either. Zola, especially, will drag on them, so much that you'd think she's tired. Till you get home and she does the zoomies too. I attribute it to boredom. Walks are for business: sniffing the news, pee-mailing, etc. Zoomies are playtime!
  3. Zola and Brin have always tolerated each other but have never really gotten close. Some of that is Zola being bratty about being the first dog here--she gives me the stink-eye if she thinks I'm giving Brin too much love. Part of it is they have different likes/dislikes. Brin likes to cuddle but that irritates Zola; Zola likes to race but Brin is more of a bite-toy kind of girl. Lately, however, they have been sniffing each other a lot. They sometimes voluntarily sit on the same couch (this is new) and they often just stand in a hallways trading sniffs. Does this mean anything I should know about? Zola is getting on in age, but as far as our last vet check (3-4 months ago), both dogs are healthy. Thanks!
  4. I am so very sorry, Wendy. That was a lovely tribute. Hugs to you and your family.
  5. She was only interested that one day and is back to normal. Thanks everyone!
  6. We have muzzled Zola. I hope it's just me readjng Zola wrong. Will update.
  7. My 5-year-old, Brin, was bit by another dog last weekend. She has a 3" gash with 8 staples. This morning, she took out a staple and re-opened the healing wound. There is no blood seepage and no infection. We treated with neosporin, and put gauze over the wound. Today, my 11-year-old, Zola, is hyper-interested in Brin. She is sniffing Brin up and down, lingering around the wound area. I haven't seen aggression but I am uncomfortable with Zola's excessive interest. Any thoughts? Thank you.
  8. No complaints here, just thanks.
  9. I guess I am the rare exception here. Zola was totally fine being an only dog. I wanted a second partly for me, and partly because I thought Zola would like the company. She doesn't. She tolerates Brin but doesn't *love* her. Brin, OTOH, adores Zola.
  10. Your girls look so happy together! Congratulations!!!! I esp love the goofy pic.
  11. She'll get used to them. Our Brin was the same way. We just turned them on whenever and acted very nonchalant about the whole thing. She would always run away but after a few weeks, she wanted to be enar us so she'd brave being in the room. Now she gives the fan a suspicious look but then goes back to roaching.
  12. I am so so sad to see this. My thoughts are with all of you.

    Steak

I am so so very sorry to hear this. Run free, Steak. Hugs to all.
  14. It shouldn't. It's an anti-inflammatory. Does't have any "loopy making" ingredients. Have you tried Deramaxx? George takes that. She gets lethargic with it and loses her apetite. Our vet said it's an uncommon but reported reaction. I have not tried Deramaxx--I will look into it. Thx!
  15. Thank you all. I would consider medication if it doesn't just knock her out. Rimadyl makes her loopy and I'd like to avoid that.
  16. Thank you, I've been reading about what a good therapeutic dose for glucosamine/chondroitin is and have found varying ranges in the literature. Do you know of any large n studies that are well designed? Where did you get that info about the Omega-6? Thank you again! ETA: My understanding of the benefits of Omega-6 is that you need to keep the dose low, relative to the dose of Omega-3, in order to avoid inflammatory effects.
  17. My Zola is a feisty 11-yr-old who loves to run, run, run but whose body can't really take the beating anymore. We go to the beach at least once a week for a "big" run, usually with GHs. Zola is up there with the best of them but the effort takes a toll on her. Besides the two corns in her front feet that we are trying to manage as best as we can, she has arthritis in her hips. She wil happily launch herself into any race and let her body pay for it later and though it kills me to see her limping for days after, I *won't* take her fun away from her. But I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help her hurt less. I give her glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, a multi-vitamin, and omega-3 and -6 acids. I massage her daily, focusing on her muscles. Has anyone tried acupuncture? Or something else that may help? Thank you...
  18. I am so sorry. Through your pictures and stories, I felt like I knew Wabi and loved her too. Big hugs.
  19. Ditto to what Jen says. In a perfect world, we could run all the tests we want whenever we want them. I'm sympathetic to a doctor who wants to know what the status of her patient's brain is now, but given Steak's history and previous testing, as well as the prohibitive cost, I would not get the MRI/CT/tick panel either. Don't feel like crud about this. You are doing the best you can and when you are out of this very emotional moment, you can always re-assess.
