  1. One vet said it was normal for greyhounds because of their muscle mass? Does that make sense?
  2. Thank you so much for your response, cleptogrey. We are located in Ontario Canada. I think I sent one of my other greys records to OSU. And they did respond. Will try to see if I can reach them again. Thanks again.....
  3. She had a urinalysis/SDMA done. Am I right in thinking the calculation from this could be done by: measuring the amount of protein and creatinine in a urine sample, and mathematically dividing the protein value by the creatinine value Protein being 4+ divided by creatinine 103? Specific gravity 1.045 pH 6.5. Or does this have to be another test for the upc? The vet in not very forthcoming! She really needs a dental done sooner than later which should have been done two years ago with a different vet. It is so difficult right now. I cannot get into the two vets I would feel confident about. It is such a shame.
  4. Thanks so much Macoduck for taking time to put information together. Every vet treating greyhounds should have a copy of this book -- I am already "teaching" them about some of the differences of greyhounds! This is helpful and will help me ask the right questions.
  5. I know I have asked this before. Two vets have disregarded the fact my dog has protein in the urine +4/+3 = 3.0 g/L. My question: is it normal for Greyhounds to have any protein in their urine? Thanks for any input.
  6. My first and only experience was with my first greyhound (I don't think it is breed specific). Shortly after I got her something great happened and I touched her on her bed (she was sleeping). She grabbed my arm, absolutely painless, and ran away. I brought her back to her bed, hugged her and said I was so sorry. It was a lesson learned that I was already told about. I believe we have to respect who they are, what they have come from and EARN their love and respect. We had an amazing relationship.
  7. What a sweet dog. This is heartbreaking news. Can it be treated?
  8. My first two greys came from the track via adoption kennel and my current from an adoption group as a foster (she is still here six years later). I am glad they were basically from the track. My very first dog from the Human Society (not a grey) must have been very bonded with a family he was with which was not easy for him. This is why I like to be able to build a relationship with them this way. None of them needed house training. Just a period of adjustment.
  9. Hello NeylasMom. I read Violets issues earlier today and what you went through. It is terrible you lost her that way. It is so heartbreaking. And thank you for taking time to respond to my dogs issues -- it is kind of you.
  10. Thank you NeylasMom. I have a tooth brush with a smaller brush on the other end. I try to brush very gently but she does not like it. Were Violet's teeth ever taken out?
  11. Thanks so much. I went through the list on the forum and noticed Cliff Redford. I called and he was in Poland helping animals over there -- he was on the news actually.
  12. We are in Toronto (Bayview and 401). I think we are going to Innisfil to Alcona Animal Hospital. What do you think -- would love your input. Thanks.
  13. Not sure exactly what that is -- PLE ? SDMA was slightly high 15.
  14. We had a urine test done. There is protein 4+ in the urine, specific gravity 1.045, PH 6.5, Glucose Ketone negative, Bacteria - non seen. Also Clindamycin has been prescribed to "help" her teeth infection. I believe the roots of her one of her back teeth are exposed and the word furcation has been used in previous consultations. I am concerned that antibiotics may affect the kidneys, especially with a dog that does not eat consistently. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this.
  15. New vet did not work out -- did not understand greyhounds. Originally the last vet did blood and urine tests. There is protein 4+ in the urine, specific gravity 1.045, PH 6.5, Glucose Ketone negative, Bacteria - non seen. She also sent a script for Clindamycin to "help" her teeth infection knowing the urine test. I believe the roots of her one of her back teeth are exposed and the word furcation has been used in previous consultations. I am concerned that antibiotics may affect the kidneys, especially with a dog that does not eat consistently. It is difficult finding a vet these days (despite the fact there is one on every corner!). I think the covid situation has changed many things. Adoption agencies have closed down and greyhound get togethers have been cancelled. They are not treating my dog responsibly. I am very concerned. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this.
  16. Thank you for your messages. We are going to a new vet this week, so hopefully he will understand greys.
  17. That's beautiful. Someone said that they stay with us until they feel we are OK. If that ever happens.
  18. I appreciate your responses. I do not see any symptoms of acid reflex and I believe the vet was just treating her for it to avoid dental surgery. She said "she" had acid reflex but did not refer to any dogs she knew. She said she had Dr. Couto's manual there(?) but she did not understand my dog's previous BW results which should have been a red flag. Anyway this relationship is over. I am crazy about this dog and so upset seeing her suffer like this. It is so difficult finding a good vet here these days, even board certified. One of my previous greys had pretty bad teeth and went to a board BC dentist but they messed up the anesthesia and hurt her. She suffered for the rest of her life.
  19. A situation that has come up I have never hear of! 1. Does acid reflex cause dental issues 2. How should this be treated 3. Does anyone know the symptoms of acid reflex or experienced it with their greyhound Currently, my dog has teeth problems, perhaps even exposed roots (furcation has been mentioned by two vets) Has anyone experienced this situation with their greys? Or know how to treat this situation. This is all new to me. Thanks everyone.
  20. Can you take her home where she will feel more safe? Despite her situation? Perhaps her experience at the groomers was too much for her. I don't think my girl could handle being left even to just have her nails trimmed she will not go down the stairs -- they have to come up to her!
