  1. Thank you both so much for responding. This is really terrifying. Greysmom you were kind enough to respond in May(?) last year when I posted about my grey being paralyzed after dental surgery when they (actually did) flip her inappropriately when under. There is no other explanation as I was there the whole time and watched the vet just walking around leaving the vet tech to do whatever. There is no other explanation. Therefore, the nerves in the spinal neck have been damaged causing her to appear with heart issues. It has been so difficult getting into a greyhound savvy vet even though another GT member recommended a few. The others really to not understand. That would apply to a cardiologist as well. Right now she is in trouble but I just wanted to you all to see this article about neck spinal nerves how they relate to the organs in the body. He is in BC and very respected (your opinions would be welcome): I will do anything to turn this beautiful dog around. https://peterdobias.com/blogs/blog/be-on-guard-for-your-dogs-heart Cold laser therapy has been recommended, to be done by someone who know what they are doing, on her neck and jaw which was also damaged during excessive surgery. Thank you again.
  2. Update to previous post regarding paralyzed after dental surgery last year. Has anyone experienced heart disease in their greyhound. From people have told me who know greys very well they had not heard of this (a stroke perhaps). A couple of vets recently have been on about heart disease in my dog but they are not particularly grey savvy. (It has been very difficult to get into a grey savvy vet for a long time.) Has anyone here heard of this before? Thank you so much -- really worried.
  3. Very funny. I hope this does not come back to bite you. After all the mistakes done to my dog outside of this I pray yours do not suffer by using a drug which has so very many downsides and deaths.
  4. I am hearing really bad things about this drug all over the place. I met someone in the park and her aussie shepherd had bad arthritis so she gave him one shot of librela and he went down really fast hiding in corners and may have had seizures. They had to let him go and she was so upset
  5. Only part of what I have heard: https://www.facebook.com/groups/949999742415867
  6. I am just posting this to see if anyone has had any issues with Librela. The vet tried to push me into injecting my dog with this but I am hearing very bad issues with this drug.
  7. Thank you again. It was urine test not blood work (my typo). They should have done BW as well as the urine which might have explained a lot. The vet did not seem very interested. Will have to go to yet another. He did not seem to be very interested?! We also do not have many greyhound savvy vets here either as we know they are different.
  8. Thanks so much Macoduck. The link you posted does talk about the protein:creatinine ratio but not specifically. The BW results did not show the SDMA for some reason. I am really worried about her kidney situation. She is drinking a lot and incontinent. Also eating less and losing weight. This all started when she had dental surgery and was paralyzed after which I posted. Greysmom said they probably turned her incorrectly while under therefore twisted her vertebrae which appears what happened after many visits with vets and specialists. The veterinary world here has become pretty bad and getting the right answers is difficult.
  9. Hello everyone... I just wondered if anyone has been a rating as high as 3.5 for a UPCR test. Any input would be appreciated.
  10. I thought Nova Scotia might be different but this is terrible not being able to find the right treatment for your dog. We are in Ontario and it has been really tough here with corporations taking over clinics and good vets retiring or we cannot get in, especially anyone who knows greyhounds. We had good referrals from a GTer but could not get in. You already have good leads but thought of two who might help? Melanie(?) at https://stephenhealthinc.com/?page_id=91 or Julie Ann Lee in New Brunswick with Adored Beast: mariana@adoredbeast.com All the best for your girl.
  11. This is terrible news. I am so very sorry. No it is absolutely not fair.
  12. ASPARTAME is another problem. A couple of months ago the vet prescribed liquid clavamox for my dog which contained this sweetener. Thanks to the compounding pharmacy this should not be used on animals, or even humans. Major argument with two vets about this who disagreed but it is true. On the news last night talked about this sweetener which can cause cancer in humans -- used in diet coke and who knows what. I thought more people new about Xylitol?
  13. I wish we had Ohio State trained vets here in Canada. I was sent to a vet this week for a second opinion. He was a very cold fish and he frightened my dog. Did not understand the differences in greyhounds to other breeds. Said she had a heart murmur (I don't believe she does) and he did not realize how stoic they can be in a situation like this and will not show pain with all the prodding they do. The other problem, as mentioned, is getting into a greyhound savvy vet. I have begged them saying but she's a greyhound but they are fully booked. (A side note: Also, very important, the antibiotic prescribed previously contained a sweetener called aspartame which should not be given to animals but they will argue otherwise. Thanks to the compounding pharmacy he said it is not for animals, and evidence has come out that it should not be given to humans either. I think everyone needs to know this. A holistic vet already new this and had mentioned it in articles she had written.) I would definitely have a holistic vet on your team. Many had started out as conventional vets but expanded their knowledge out of frustration. People here have also had success with mobile vets as well.
  14. Thanks so much for your advice. It is very valuable.
  15. My last girl was 15. Fourteen with her last dental but they messed up the anesthesia (board certified vet). It is so hard to go through this with them. Thank you for your input.
  16. Thank you everyone for your replies -- very helpful. Saw the vet -- he said her teeth are healed. There were quite a few stitches which took a while to come out. Thank you Kudzu. So sorry to hear what your boy went through. I think what you said makes sense: " The dental may seem like the trigger but perhaps was just the last straw on an already fragile situation. Perhaps it was just the tipping point?" Greysmom -- thank you as well. I have heard that dogs can be hurt if not handled properly when flipping them over incorrectly. This is probably why she came out of surgery in that condition. Of course, I could not say anything to that effect! The vet suggested she had IVDD/herniated disc in the lower neck or even wobblers. I agree she should have xrays but will use a different vet closer to where we live. I don't think they have to be greysavvy vet for this? Also am considering lazer and acupuncture. It was a very scary experience but she is improving slowly but won't be running for a while! She also ate today thankfully. Thank you all so much for responding.
  17. My dog had dental surgery a month ago and not completely recovered yet which has not been my experience with my other greys. When she came out of the clinic her hind end was very weak. I have never seen a dog come out of surgery like she did. Last night she barely move and is basically paralyzed. Has anyone experienced this with anesthesia? Any help would be appreciated. Will take her to a vet this morning. I am worried they messed up during surgery. This is frightening. Thank you for any input.
  18. Dr, Couto recommended Metamucil for my grey but it might be just as well to get Psyllium Husk from the health food store.
  19. Thank you so much Macoduck. So we are all on the same page regarding Tylenol. No Tylenol! Why would a vet recommend this?! Appreciate your message to confirm my decision.
  20. I see you are in the UK. There is a very kind holistic practitioner in Ireland called Lori Rose. Her website and contact info is www.lorirosehomeopathy.com. She might give some guidance with your situation.
  21. There are no words for what you are going through. One of my dogs had lymphoma -- the vet diagnosed and basically walked away. I sent the ultrasound to Ohio University and Dr. Couto. Both came back not being able to diagnose without an asperise (spelling?). I met Dr. Couto a few years later here in Canada and he told me lymphoma could be cured. But in your case you have a kidney issue. My dog also just went through dental surgery and has kidney issues as well. So I am hoping she was able to handle this. I don't know if this link will be of any help (just a thought). I do not give up very easily.
  22. Thank you MerseyGrey. My grandmother lived in Cheshire a long time ago. I agree "each time is different". I know too much now from my other greys -- ignorance is bliss! So glad Andi was with a great team at the vet. Thank you EllenEveBaz So I should give her Tylenol. And do what I am told?!
  23. I am so sorry to learn what you have been through with Annie and I completely know how you feel being angry and distraught. Hopefully something will happen to help her turn around. Our thoughts are with you.
  24. My greyhound just a dental last Friday. Six teeth removed. This was delayed because of suspect kidney issues but this vet decided "based on her blood work being very good" (which was done six months ago) to go ahead. It has been very difficult finding and getting into a vet with everything that is going on, especially a greyhound savvy vet. After the surgery she came out and I have never seen a dog in this condition coming out of surgery and I have been through quite a few dentals with my greys. Just today she is eating a little and calmed down from continually panting and difficulty walking. I asked for a copy of all the drugs administered as follows. Premedication (prior to surgery) – Dexdomitor and Torbugesic Induction agents (to intubate, and place on general anesthetic) – Propofol and Ketamine titrated to effect General anesthesia gas – Isoflurane Pain relief post operative – Metacam, Buprenorphine Slow Release, and Methadone I have seen other posts about Buprenorphine being an issue with their dogs. I told the vet not to give her Metacam. And I will not give her Tylenol which I was told to use after day 3 knwing the side effects. I am posting because it was a terrifying experience to see my sweet dog suffering in this way because of drugs they used. I pray there will be no reactions in the future and her mouth will heal quickly. Just thought others should be aware of what we went through.
  25. Thank you. Every time I question a vet they do not like it! Thank goodness I did not give her the gabapentin they prescribed.
