  1. I love this. Two ways to read it... Welcome from just north of Newmarket!
  2. As far as I've been told (and this is also what Summer is eating)... the infamous green bag is Iams Proactive Health Adult. We feed the minichunks.
  3. 9am and 6pm here, cookie at bedtime, some treats during the day. But the times aren't written in stone and she's flexible with that.
  4. You can dehydrate them or feed them raw, whichever you wish. Personally, I prefer raw feet when I can -- it's more fun to watch.
  5. I pretty much only attend greyhound events now as vacation. LOL! I like to take my girl everywhere with me. She is a wonderful traveler and has no problem with hotels. I would never board her at a typical mixed breed facility as she would not be happy with that and neither would I. I'm lucky that, for the rare instances where she can't travel with me, we have a local greyhound-only in-home boarding facility. If that option wasn't available to me, my next choice would be to have an in-home sitter. ETA: The least stressful thing for her is to be with me. Wherever that is, however far we go. I take her on local errands as much as possible, too, as she's happy to ride around in the van and come in with me (or wait in the van, if she's not allowed in -- weather permitting, of course).
  6. Thanks, Krissy! Your answer came in time for me to pick up a package of Advantix II in Michigan.
  7. I use Advantix along with Heartgard. I have not had any trouble with it, other than the greasy back. I apply in many spots to reduce the slick and it does help. After a bunch of days, I give her a bath -- I haven't found any other way to remove the slick and, with her therapy dog work, I can't just leave it there. Krissy, you were going to confirm with Bayer if Advantix II is safe for greyhounds or not? Did you get any information on that?
  8. I recommend the Wiggles Wags and Whiskers harness to anyone who wants a non-spook harness. You can get it from various sources, including The GEM Store and directly from 2 Hounds. My girl doesn't pull, either, but I do like it in certain situations (such as attending a fair, where she could get startled -- I just want the added control plus not be using her neck for the actual control). I have the Freedom as well as the Classic and I only use the back connection anyway.
  9. Maybe a hidden area with straw? Perhaps if a bunch of you band together and take care of it?
  10. Krissy, I'm very glad to hear it's the same product! Can you tell me... someone today mentioned that K9 Advantix II (vs regular K9 Advantix) is unsafe due to the extra ingredient which is added as a biting insect repellent. I believe the added ingredient is pyriproxyfen. I wanted to see if my vet would order Advantix II for me this year instead of the regular Advantix but obviously I don't want it if it's remotely unsafe.
  11. I was hunting around in these threads to see if there's any information about Advantix II being unsafe for greyhounds (it was something I heard today so I wanted to do some research -- note that this is about Advantix II, **NOT** regular Advantix) and spotted your comment about the good stuff that kills ticks being replaced/removed in the Canadian version. Can you tell me more? -- the sole reason that I use K9 Advantix along with Hearguard, instead of using Revolution, is for the tick protection. But if I'm not actually getting that ingredient in the Canadian K9 Advantix, then there's absolutely no point in using it.
  12. I also vote for Drontal and used it on Summer when she came with hookworms . I hear of such lousy results with Panacur.
  13. Sounds like he's not housetrained. A week is awfully quick to assume he's fully trained. But I've always had females, so I dunno. My one suggestion, about MAKING him pee... rather than take him into your own yard, pop out the front door and go to a streetlight or whatever the popular neighborhood pee spot is. He should want to both read and leave p-mail.
  14. I'm so incredibly sorry that the handsome Seamie had to leave. Tears of sorrow here.
  15. That's exactly what to do. It's always worked for me (new house, camping, whatever).
  16. You're in Canada, I see. I've seen it in the drugstore, either Shopper's or Rexall, I can't remember which.
  17. I like Musher's Secret. Alternatively, I'd use Bag Balm.
  18. Perhaps your dog will work for something else? My girl doesn't particularly work for treats, either. When we did agility last summer, she worked for praise. Some dogs will work for toys. Experiment a bit and you should be able to find something that he will work for. He may even actually be willing to work for treats but needs a higher value item.
  19. She's just lovely! And you'll be in TN in time for Mountain Hounds!
  20. I wouldn't bother with the crate. It seems to be such a popular item nowadays but we sure never used crates in the past. I believe in them for medical purposes, of course, but I wouldn't want to use one otherwise. If you pup doesn't care for it and doesn't need it...
  21. Advantage doesn't "do" ticks and Revolution only does the American dog tick.. Advantix K9 does various ticks (deer ticks, American dog ticks, brown dog tick and Lone Star ticks) and, as long as your kitty doesn't groom your dog, you're supposedly okay using it.
  22. Summer eats Iams green bag and she's almost 9. I am not concerned that the bag has an age range written on it. She likes it and does well on it, that's all I care about. Authority is indeed at Petsmart. The regular dry food has a 3-star rating on dogfoodadvisor.com, if that helps you. As does Iams Pro-Active Health (the infamous green bag). I see there's also a grain free if you're into that. I don't know anyone who feeds it so I don't have any opinions on it to contribute.
