Ohhhhh how I miss my Greyhouds!!! Sad me.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I just lost my baby too right before Thanksgiving, and am hurting so much. Hugs to you!! There are no words to describe the hurt of such a sudden loss. My baby had symptoms (another disease) and was gone in a couple of days. About 5 of my Greybabies in the 25 years I have had them, have died of exotic, unexplainable, and sudden sicknesses and deaths. And all under 9 years of age. It is so so sad and tears your heart out. The others I had lost over the years died of explaniable things that I had a chance to say good bye. I am praying for you. Be comforted by us here in your Grey family. That is where I always come. Run free sweet baby.

Well I have had Greybabies for 24 years. I will let myself grieve for her, and then I want more. I will do like I have always done, gotten two at a time. I have always had two. I don't know what life would be lifke without my Greybabies. Thank you for your kindness. Yes, being single is tough when losing your one and only baby. Last night I thought I heard her whining to get in from outside. And this morning I woke up early and was thinking that I had to let her out. Very sad.

Thank you all. Yes, no more pain - she was in incredible pain. And the e=vet said she did not know if she would ever get to the point of ever waling and the discs would ever recover. So yes, she is pain free!! Thakn you

Thank you everyone. Your kind words and hearts comforted me. I hated coming home from work today to a completely empty and lonely house. I am so broken. I still feel her soft fur as I was stroking and petting her this morning. I still see her eyes looking at me. She was a perfect girl and never did anthing mischevious. She was such a good sweet girl. Dont know how I am going to get through this. BUt thank you all.

Thank yoou again, everyone for your help and kind thoughts. Sophie went to Heaven in the wee hours. She was truly suffering and in pain. She is pain free now and her legs are perfect now. I am broken beyond belife. Thank you all.

She will be on antibiotics for 8 weeks. If she cannot move her legs at all after a couple of days and wont eat, I will make the horrible decision. There is no reason to keep her tormented like this. I have always been like this. It is redicuouls to keep a baby alive in torment and pain in a paralyzed position just for what? It is a hard decision, but a must. She is miserable. I am not as technical as you, but I am using unselfish compassion. Thank you all everyone for your replies so soon to me and my baby. I appreciate your prayers and love thoughts.

Ok I just posted long message, and site would not let me post, here goes. So 6 weeks ago is when it started. Sophie was not running in back yard and she was walking slowly and then teetering a bit. Also was not eating or drinking. so I took her in to vet. She gave her anti-inflammatory meds. No change, so I took her to e-vet late night a couple of nights later. Not eating, drinking, fever, and could not bend legs to poop and teetered a lot trying to walk. So e-vet gave her anti-biotics and pain meds for a week, and she got almost completely better. I had my Sophie back. that was Oct. 21st. So the past 3 to 4 days, she was walking slow again and yesterday, I noticed she was teetering again, and by the evening, the back legs went out entirly. Had to carry her everywhere. So last night took her to e-vet. Doc did x-rays and told me she has about 4 discs on her back that are closing into each other causing pressure on back legs not to function. So she has been on iv fluids, and strong anti biotic shots ever so many hours. I have to pick her up 6:30am tomorrow. Doc hopes her legs will start working by then, but no guarentee. I visited today, no change. Not eating. Lost lots of weight in last few days. Cant stand at bowl to eat and drink, so I would feed her in bed. Ate only little. All while she is panting and whining. So today, I told them to give her pain meds (not morphine based) to help with pain. Doc said this I would take her home tomorrrow with 8 weeks of strong anti-biotic. 50% success rrate with Greyhouds. Doc saw bacteria in the discs - this is the cause of the discs moving together. She will be on probiotic too. She is looked miserable in e-vet today. Any help, suggestions, or similiars??? Help, distressed mom.

Thanks so much, everyone. She is much more alert today. She ate her breakfast just fine and did not seem to have nay issues eating it. She is drinking her water. She had a nice poop session and is urinating very well. She is doing her normal rounds about the house looking out the windows over her territory. She is just a tiny bit slower going down the stairs. She doesn't run up and down, but she carefully walks up and down. That "anesthesia" look in her eyes is gone today. I would say a 97 percent recovery rate. But her teeth are nice and white and nice breath. I did get a dental wash for her as well as the usual rubber finger brush for her teeth. I wont brush for several days in case she is sensitive.

Thanks so much, tbhounds. she is sleeping soundly now and her breathing is calm and normal and peaceful. I think she was just going through the after effects of the anesthesia. However, I will contact vet about the type of anesthesia administered. Sophie is a sweet girl and a trooper. I will post tomorrow.

I have always had some disorientation in my Greys after surgery. My girl had her dental today and the first time this vet performed a dental on her. In fact, one of the vet technicians actually did it as I found out later. She was under a general IV and a respirator. She pooped and urinated very well. She ate a small amount of food and very little water. She answers to her name. However, she looks a little out if it. She knows her way around, but walks slower and just a tiny bit off center. Just the slightest. Her eyes still have that anesthesiology look to them just a little bit. She looks just a little confused in the house now that it is night. She is in her bed beside my bed now and laying peacefully but eyes open. No whimpering or whining. I am thinking it is just part of the post procedure recovery. Vet prescribed 500 mg of amoxicillin twice a day. I don't remember any of my other Greys being a little out of it this long. She had the procedure around 11 this morning. it is 10 pm now. She is pretty normal for alertness, but since it has been night, the disorientation is more visible to me.

I appreciate all your responses on this situation. I am going to go to another vet to have a full panel thyroid done and make sure the lab is experienced. How do you feel about the vet school in Birmingham, AL? I don't know where each individual vet would send the panels to be processed. Would it be Gainesville, FL? That is supposed to be one of the best vet schools in the country.

I have had her on K9 Advantix II. I still check her every time she comes in from the yard because everyonce in a while, a tick still seems to get on her. Every once in a while I will find one. I remove it quickly. I am so used to it that I just pick them off with my fingers (I wear gloves). I put them in a white tissue to make sure I got the head and that the legs are still kicking. Then I flush them down the toilet. I always check inside her ears as well. Between the toes tool.

Vet said that due to the symptoms of the hair loss that the T4 alone was a good indication. I have had her for 10 months now and her fur has grown in from her being very sparse in bodily coverage to nearly full bodily coverage with the exception of her belly and chest area - which is till bald. This "new" fur thinning has crept up only in the last month or not even a month. I noticed it first. It may have been creeping along for a few months now. I have had her on a good diet with supplements in Omega 3, Glucosamine Chondroitin, and a multi vitamin in her breakfast every morning. He explained to me that these indications pointed to hypo in a definite way. She will have another T4 test in 3 weeks, and then 4 months.

I left a message with my vet. He will probably wonder how I all of the sudden became so informative on thyroid tests. LOL I was so dumb before about the full blood tests panel. I just left a message with my vet about having the T3, free T3, free T4, TSH, and TgAA tests done and what lab will be doing it. I know he will probably be wondering how I all of the sudden became so informed about thyroid tests. Especially since I was so dumb before about the full blood panel. LOL What will I say? LOL

I appreciate all the information. I will call my vet and get to the bottom of this full Thyroid panel. I will mention the thyroid tests mentioned above and what lab will be utilized. Thanks so much. If you don't mind, I will keep you posted.

Both the vet and I noticed her fur thinning on the back legs and the tail. Also, her belly never did grow any fur at all - not even peach fuzz. That symptom was the catalyst to pursue testing. There are no other symptoms. I don't see any information on the paperwork for results as to what lab was used. Thank you, JJNg for this info. I will ask him again about a full thyroid panel with the testing of T4, T3, TSH, free T4, free T3, and TgAA. I don't know why this was not done. Even the paper work he gave me stated a necessity to give TSH tests.

I don't see T3, free T4,or TSH on the profile. Would they be listed under different names?
