  1. Never got growled at, but maybe that was because I'm slow compared to these dogs and it was often "cleaned up" before I could get there with the paper towels. I had a cat who was a frequent puker, and the instant Eve the ChowGreyhound heard that first heave, she'd race to the cat and position her muzzle under the puking cat's mouth. Stuff never hit the floor. We called it "in-flight refueling."
  2. No advice or experience to offer, so sending big hugs to you and Wilbur. Just brainstorming -- crate or babygate at night to keep him quieter? Move table further away from his favorite spot, or would that mean he'd just have to find a new favorite spot? Good news on the edema going down, even if some went down on your floor. Let us know what the vet says about the leaking stitch. And best wishes for more rest for you.
  3. My Baz (Hoss's Herbie) was not quite 32" at the shoulder and raced at 87 lbs. He was injured and retired after just a few races. He had recurrent orthopedic problems and I wonder if they were related to his build. He had a gorgeous face, but his body looked like he was put together with TinkerToys. I forget how long he was, but when he was walking by you it felt like you were being passed by a super tanker. Romie (Prime Force) and Nutmeg (Win Carole Win) are almost identical in size, about 26" at shoulder and 65-70 lbs. But Romie looks stalwart and solid (for a greyhound), while Nutmeg looks dainty and fine-boned. So I think frame has something to do with perceived size, as well as height and weight.
  4. Welcome, and I hope your waiting time goes by quickly. Only one of my greys has been a big baby-face licker; she was smart enough to figure out that sometimes she could pick up an extra snack that way.
  5. What a stunning red fawn! And those ears! Welcome from Nutmeg and Romie (whose name rhymes with Homey). What's been your biggest challenge so far?
  6. Hello to you and Talley. How did you hook up with her?
  7. both Dutch and Katie! Dutch looks like he's already very happy in his new home.
  8. Arthur is gorgeous! Have your cats got him trained yet? Sophiecat, who died at age 18 last year, made sure all the greyhounds in this house knew who was boss.
  9. Welcome, Chai! Our human says she likes your name because she drinks lots and lots of the stuff. We stick to plain water, ourselves. You've already gone through House 101 as a foster, so in a few weeks or so you'll have trained your humans in how they should cater to your every whim keep you happy and healthy. A comfy bed in front of a fireplace is a very promising start -- sounds like you have good raw material there. One thing you may want to practice on is your "long face." Humans tend to translate that as the dog needs: 1) a cookie; 2) some loving and petting; or 3) another greyhound to keep you company. Sometimes all of the above! Again, welcome, and let us know when you have any questions. Wags, Nutmeg and Romie
  10. A vet dermatologist recommended it for my dear Baz some years ago. Baz was being seen for a separate skin problem. I did some research; as I remember, statistics showed that melatonin helps about 1/3 of dogs regrow some fur to varying degrees. Baz was in the other 2/3. (We need a bald butt emoticon here.) I don't remember the dosage. I tried it on him because it seemed like a "can't hurt, might help" scenario. Baz didn't show any calming or sedating effects from it, but other medications often didn't have the expected results with him, either.
  11. Sending best wishes for quick healing. I think she deserves some filet mignon with a side of tripe, too.
  12. Sending best wishes to Aquitaine and calming thoughts for her human.
  13. Absolutely no ideas, but so glad he's feeling better!
  14. Nutmeg fell apart when Baz died, but she had only been here a short while. I ended up having to get another grey, for her sake, before I was emotionally ready. Although I intended to get her a young, lively playmate, I came home with Scout, a dignified senior. He gave Nutmeg the stability she needed and she bonded closely to him. It took me much longer, but that was okay. He was a bounce who needed a home. Scout died last summer and I thought Nutmeg would go nuts again, but she did much better than I expected. I think keeping to a strict routine helped, and going for lots of walks and rides in the car. A dogsitter had been coming in to help with Scout in his last months, and I kept her on to maintain a constant in Nutmeg's world. But I again got another grey much sooner than I thought because I was the one who just couldn't bear the house being so quiet. Whatever happens, you will come through it. Sending hugs to you and your beloved pups.
  15. Glad Chick's gained a little weight. All paws crossed here for the test results. In the past, Diane Burpdog has suggested adding some pasta to the food as an easily digested source of calories. You could cook it up nice and mushy, maybe in some low-fat broth? Here's one of the recipes for weight-gaining "satin balls". There are variations, but most of them are even more fatty, with cream cheese and/or peanut butter. 5 pounds ground meat 5 cups Total whole grain cereal 5 cups oats (slow cooking type) 2½ cups raw wheat germ ¾ cup oil ¾ cup molasses 6 egg yolks 5 packets gelatin 2 ½ tablespoons Solid Gold Seameal supplement Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly like you would a meatloaf. Roll into balls no larger than 1 inch diameter. Divide into at least 6 separate containers or bags. Freeze. Thaw as needed for feeding.
  16. Wonderful! How's he doing recovering from the surgery?
