Looking for a raw food provider in the Metro NY / Long Island area.... someone like MyPetCarnivore.com but that is in the LOWER NY area... any suggestions? I have been to Armellino's in Melville, and Martin's in Glen Cove, but am wondering if there is anything else out there... I love the GREEN Tripe MyPetCarnivore.com offers, but these locals don't offer that... and i don't want to spend $50-$100 on shipping just to get some tripe...

I used to live in NW NJ... now on Long Island. I don't know of any NE rescue that can adopt out dogs with dentals... it costs MINIMUM $1,000 for a dental in these areas... I got 3 of my 4 greys from south Jersey rescue... pretty sure they had worms, and one was infested with ticks.... spent over an hour pulling over 50 ticks out of all 4 paws her first day home... they get them from the track, or bounces from other homes, and house them until they find their next homes... no money for extras... just the necessary spay/neuter if not done already...

I love how fast they process my claims... the premium increased by 50% this year, from last year... but the same thing will happen with any other insurance carrier... as the animal ages, the premium goes up quite a bit... and as they catch up with the rest of the market, the price increases significantly from year to year...

that's not true of any insurance carrier. You renew every year. they cannot deny a condition the second year. But if you drop the insurance carrier and go elsewhere, yes it becomes a preexisting condition. the key is to stay with one insurance carrier. do not switch around.

My boy was a chow hound for the first 6-9 months. Once he understood he wasn't going to starve to death, and leveled out his weight (as he was underweight in the beginning), he calmed down and stopped eating when he was full, even walking away from the food bowl... if you had told me he would EVER walk away, or stop eating, in those first 6-9 months, i would have told you you were crazy, but it happened... some days now, 4 yrs later, i have to beg him to eat... he's 85 lbs, the perfect weight for him, and he stops when he's full... it may happen to yours as well... in due time...

my beagle/basset mix had kennel cough when i first adopted him. it was 3 weeks of PURE HELL!!!!! Constant coughing, nonstop.... ugly, white foam puddles everywhere... really horrible to live thru... unless your lurcher is experiencing CONSTANT coughing, it is not kennel cough... google kennel cough videos and you will see what i'm referring to... i don't wish that on my worst enemy... it is truly heartbreaking to watch and not be able to do anything to help...

i've spent thousands upon thousands... Between allergies, sensitive tummies, old age, arthritis, tooth extractions, tail amputations, torn Achilles heel surgery at specialty center, heart monitoring, kidney failure, cancer, emergency surgery for abdominal obstruction, heartworm treatments, kennel cough, pannus, etc... ultrasounds, diagnostic tests, xrays, dentals, ER visits/surgeries... if i didn't have insurance I would not be able to take proper care of my pets... then i wouldn't be a responsible owner... it's absolutely necessary IMO... I spent over $22K on one dog alone, in less than one year... and i have had 6 dogs and 1 cat, so well over $50K in all... and have been reimbursed on a good chunk of it... for the premium, it's absolutely worth it to know you can have peace of mind when your dog needs veterinary care...

I also think the 6 month mark is one to watch... 2 of my 4 greys were perfectly happy with other breed dogs in the first 6 months of adoption... but, out of nowhere, and seemingly overnight, they turned and decided they no longer like other breeds and have to be kept far from them... just be on the lookout for changes in what may be normal behavior... also why dog parks are not recommended for greys... they tend to speak different "dog language" than those who only spend 8 weeks with their mother and siblings, then go to a home with humans and learn to speak "human" more so than "dog"

i'm sad to read this... unfortunately, i don't think one dose of Pred is going to turn things around, at this low dose or higher... i would put in a feeding tube and give him a chance to recover... i did that with my Sarge and we had a wonderful 4 months due to the feeding tube... then infection set in, and kidneys/liver broke down... sounds like you've given up, but have the vets given up?

i don't think driving to the end of the block will work.... but i hope i'm wrong.... i think what gets her going at the end of the block is the movement.... so if you remove the movement and just place her at the end of the block, it might not work... walking is what moves things along... except when they have held it for sooo long and must go when finally let out....

HAH!!! i just paid $6,600 for intestinal obstruction surgery on my 40 lb beagle/basset mix!!! and what did they pull out??? stuffing from a destroyed stuffed animal!!! had to throw out all stuffed animals to prevent a second episode of this...

Just curious why they placed a pup who got depressed after losing his companion, into an only-dog household... i would have thought they'd place him in a two-or-more-dog household...

My senior beagle/basset rescue is starting the HW injections tomorrow... what should i expect? Are these injections still as dangerous as they used to be? is complete cage rest absolutely necessary? He sleeps all day, but when i get home and when we go for our nightly walk, he gets very excited and barks/bays nonstop... he doesn't run, but he gallops on the walk, since his legs are SO SO SHORT... should we stop to a crawl?
