  1. oh... i agree, VPI is the worst of the worst... had them before Best Friends Pet Insurance, for 12 yrs with my inbred german shep... they were utterly useless, other then doubling premiums...
  2. you think you had a hefty increase??? take a look at what i had been paying in increases, from 2011 - 2016, and what i had to pay in 2017 b/c i can't go elsewhere until they die.... YEAR Remy Leyla Sarge Reese 2011 341.40 341.40 2012 341.40 341.40 2013 358.53 358.53 301.86 2014 376.43 323.46 2015 376.43 323.46 2016 376.43 323.46 2017 1,432.80 883.08 281% increase 173% increase This was not a one time catch-up... this was because they were affiliated with Best Friends and they sold this policy as Best Friends Pet Insurance for 6 yrs, though it was under the 24PetWatch umbrella. Their affiliation with Best Friends ceased, they no longer sold the Best Friends Pet Insurance policies, but lucky us, we could continue insuring our pets thru 24PetWatch, underwritten by another company... bottom line, they realized they were losing money with this Best Friends affiliation, cut them off, and figured we had nowhere to go, as all our covered pets would have pre-existing conditions that wouldn't be covered elsewhere, so we had no choice but to stay with them, until our pets die... Leyla passed, so i got a good chunk of that $1432 back, but i have no choice but to keep Reese on it as he has pannus, and it is a lifelong issue with drops and annual checkups with opthomologist... I am adopting a Beagle/Basset Hound mix next week, and he will go on another insurance... I searched the internet though, and HP came up as #1, all things considered... but the premium wouldn't be any different than what i had to pay this year with the 200% increase...
  3. I say go for it... she's probably too new to really dislike anything... she still adjusting, and it's as good a time as any...
  4. my boy started this after 2 yrs at home... I don't get it... he didn't learn it from his older sister... he just started it one day out of the blue, and he does it all the time now...
  5. My first grey had this horrific diarrhea for 6 weeks straight.... no meds/powders worked... no kibble change worked... the only thing that worked was complete change to raw diet... he was 100% cured in 24 hrs, and stayed completely GI healthy for the rest of his life...
  6. it doesn't say it's mixed with meat... it labeled lamb tripe... so I thought I was getting pure tripe.... got it... thanx...
  7. Isn't raw frozen tripe supposed to be green? I bought 50 lbs of lamb tripe but it's brown, like it's mixed with the meat... I thought it was just tripe... this is the link to what I bought, but the 5 lb tubes... http://www.aplaceforpaws.com/product/lamb-tripe-2-lb-container-2/#prettyPhoto[product-gallery]/1/ if you scroll down to the small pic and click on it, it shows you the 5 lb tubes...
  8. it's no longer needed in the muscle... vet taught me to do it in the skin between the shoulders and i have been doing it that way for 9 months...
  9. at an angle... straight into the "tent" that's created when pulling up the skin... then massage the area to make sure the liquid is absorbed and distributed...
  10. just pull the skin up between the shoulders and stick the needle in all the way... that's how I've been doing it all this time... easy peasy
  11. I remember the days Leyla could walk for miles ... when I brought her home, I didn't think she knew what walkies were... she was a double bounce... adopted and returned twice... I didn't care... she picked me at the kennel, and she was not leaving without me... she was an independent alpha who ruled with an iron fist... she let no dog invade her personal space... she was the fun police... when I took her on her first walk, she didn't know what to make of it... but within a week, she was greeting me at the door and dancing for that walkie... she walked with a purpose... she didn't stop to sniff, only to mark... and she could go for hours... now we are lucky to make it to 15 minutes without her wheezing and knuckling over... but she won't let me take a day off... she is determined to go for that one walkie a day, if it's the last thing she does... the Adequan shots and acupuncture made a real difference for Leyla, and I hope they do the same for Snow... good luck
  12. Leyla is 13.5.... she's an old lady... we have been treating LP, and progressive rear end weakness for the past two years, but her symptoms have progressed more and more the last 6-8 months... I actually thought her time was near in October, but she has responded extremely well to the Adequan shots and weekly acupuncture... I had her maxed out on Gabapentin & Tramadol, but the vet thought she was too sedated and we cut back to half the dose, and she is doing well... she has a hard time getting up, and we've cut down our walkies to a quarter of the length and time, but she still greets me at the door when I come home, and dances around me until I put on the leash and we go for that walkie... when we get back, she is pooped and takes half an hour to recover, but she lives for that walkie!!! I have a doggie door and she goes outside as often as she wants, and stays out there as long as she wants, but those walkies once a day are such a treat to her... the day she can't get up anymore, and can't get around, will be the day I help her cross the bridge... but she is still very much alive...
  13. When we tried tapering off is when I noticed a marked difference... so we went back to twice weekly shots, and have remained on that dose for 6-8 months... I don't think Leyla would be around without the Adequan shots... and the acupuncture, and the Gabapentin and the Tramadol...
  14. I had the honor or meeting my celebrity crush, Taylor, along with Mark & Face, 3.5 yrs ago, back in Pompano Beach.... What a dream of a pup... I got hugs and kisses from my idol, and HE MADE my trip... When I heard he got the dreaded OS, I shed tears like he was my own.... He had a wonderful two years post diagnosis and I loved reading every update and picture... still living the good life, mostly upside down, walking and enjoying car rides.... Now that he has crossed the bridge, I find myself in tears again, knowing full well the pain of losing your heart dog much too early... I can't explain how deeply sorry I am for the loss of a legendary pup... I feel like I've lost one of my own... My thoughts are with you, Mark, and I hope you lean on Face for comfort...
  15. NOOOOOOO :weep Sweet sweet boy... I am so so sorry... heartbreaking....
  16. look like corns to me... only thing that works to remove them is hulling... they will continue to come back, her entire life... keep hulling them and she'll walk fine and be painless... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVmoe4Xzi2o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdVWFUAT_4w http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/corn_hulling.htm
  17. I agree with Susan. I would take this dog in too, if it was the right time... I can only have two at a time, and I have two right now... or I would take her myself... I also know how not to get bitten... and even if I got bitten, which I've been twice, that would not deter me... when I lose one, and the time to add another has come, I always come here and ask for any needing homes, or for bounces... If there are none at that time, I go to my rescue and ask for any bounces... any non-kid and non-cat friendly... bites don't put me off.. my current girl, who is 13 y/o was returned twice, once for catching a poodle in a dog run, and once for growling/biting a young boy... I adopted her 6 yrs ago, and she has been the light of my life... she is 13 now and won't be around much longer... when she goes, and when I'm ready to add another, I will be looking for those bounces with a history, as it doesn't deter me... it takes confidence...
  18. just logged on to my pet insurance portal and found a list of all claims submitted and paid back to me... I think this is the most important thing any pet parent can do for their pet. 19. I can't imagine sleeping without my dogs either... I actually don't sleep with my BF because he doesn't want the dogs in the bedroom, and i won't sleep without them... Chas is alone 9 hrs a day while you work, and then you leave her alone all night long, too??? i can't imagine how lonely she must feel... these are pack animals, they want to be with their families all the time...
  20. try raw... poops will be rock hard in 24 hrs...
  21. after months and months of explosive diarrhea, all it took was 24 hrs on raw to convert us for life... there is nothing else like it
  22. i put Cortizone 10 creme on those kind of wounds, and within a couple of days, they are all healed... i used that S*!@ on everything
  23. Definitely walk and feed him to create that bond that may have changed... Also, let him sleep in your room with you, on his dog bed. Do not approach him... let him come to you for affection... and PATIENCE.... good luck...
  24. the round circle on the outside of the toe is the corn. have vet hull it. corn dogs will favor grass to any sort of hard surface. corns do NOT cause the toe itself to get red or inflamed. that is something else.
  25. it is NEVER a shame to admit when it's not the right fit. What you did is the RIGHT thing. Mercer will find his perfect home. And sounds like Wayne found HIS perfect home. I love bounces. My current two houndies are both bounces. Their first homes were not the right fit, but they are the perfect fit in my home. CONGRATS!!!
