  1. Hello, Iker is going in for a dental in a couple of weeks as he has a broken tooth. I'm a bit concerned about the anesthesia, as he is a galgo, not a greyhound. I think that anesthesia requirements are the same for galgos as for greyhounds, but I'm not sure. Does anybody know if they have the same requirement as greyhounds? Thanks
  2. Patterpaws, I think osteo seems so common because we don't often read about all of those dogs who are healthy, we mostly just read about those that are ill. It's a crap shoot; I've had mixed breeds that developed cancer and greyhounds that didn't. I also think it's normal to think that we'll never adopt another as we're going through the heartbreak of osteo and soon afterwards. It seems like many, many people continue to adopt greyhounds, even after losing at least one to this awful disease.
  3. Julie, I'm so very, very sorry
  4. Congratulations! I'm so surprised! She is a real beauty!
  5. I certainly do not mean to cause anything of the sort to happen I was just curious, I've always wondered if there was a correlation, that's all. Having Gable Dodge in their lineage is actually a selling point for me, he's Larry's Grandad. I'll ask the mods to delete the thread. sorry, everyone. Don't do that, Kim. This is an interesting thread.
  6. Phoenix had the same dad as Charlie and also passed away from osteo. I can understand the importance of tracing the osteo gene, etc., but I think we can drive ourselves crazy using that info to worry about our dogs. What happens, happens and it is out of our control.
  7. I am STUNNED that you never heard from your old vet. How is Rogan doing?
  8. Kim, this must be so scary for you, especialy after having lost Rainey so recently. It's also scary to talk to the vet, or it was for me. . No matter what happens, this won't be easy.
  9. Kim, all I know is that the vet who sent Phene to the bridge said that osteo is extremely painful and that even if they aren't showing pain, they are experiencing it...a lot of it. Can you speak to a different vet at Nube's clinic? What is the worst that could happen if you increased his meds a bit? Is there anybody here who can answer that question, as I can't? You all continue to be in my thoughts.
  10. Marc, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your special girl.
  11. Happy Birthday Gabe. Go find Phene and Loca; they'll celebrate with you.
  12. I'm sorry, Maggie. I know how much you wanted to find Bella's siblings. I wish you found her sister under better circumstances

    Alan's Birthday

Happy Birthday Alan! Have a blast! We all miss you...a lot.
  14. I hope Jilly is feeling better. Great tip bout the marshmallows! I shove Iker's capsules into timbitw. He's a true Canadian now
  15. Keep writing away. So many of us have been through this and if writing helps, then we're lucky to be able to read about such a special guy. As others have said, make decisions for you and Tristan, not for your friends.
  16. Kim, I will also be blunt, if that's OK. When I sent Phoenix to the bridge, the vet said that dogs are often good at hiding pain. She said that osteo is an extremely painful disease and that she could have guaranteed that Phoenix was in a lot more pain than he was letting on, and his pain was obvious enough to let him go
