  1. I'm so very sorry, Gil. I was so excited when I met her this past October. She was very sweet and beautiful
  2. Have you tried EMT gel? It works really well and i've never seen my dogs attempt to lick it off.

Your experience made me cry. You're very lucky.
  4. I think she had us all fooled until she walked into my house
  5. Thank you, Melissa! I don't have most of those pictures
  6. Yes, he's got a small pile of soft toys wiht and without squeakers, a ball, a nylabone, and we've tried to entice him with them. I want to get a kong, and a treat ball as well, as that boy will do anything for food! It took Phoenix over a year to learn how to play, and that only happened after a second greyhound taught him how.
  7. Relax and he'll be fine. Remember that so much is new to him, so he has to get used to everything, from stairs to pots and pans. Eight days is really nothing. It will probably take a while for him to feel comfortable. He might not know how to play yet, either. All of this stuff will come with time.
  8. Hoping for the very best for Dakotah Keep us posted, OK?
  9. I would also do a tick panel. different tick diseases are treated with different meds. Phoenix had babesia, which is treated very differently than other tick diseases.
  10. I already posted about Phoenix in your other thread. I adopted him in Canada, and he was a bounce, meaning that he had been away from the tracks in the US for quite before he came to live with me. I had him tested and he was positive for babesia. One of the reasons why I had him tested was because a local greyhound had passed away from an undiagnosed/untreated TBD.
  11. I'm so sorry. I'd also love to see some pictures of Princess
  12. Hoping for successful surgery and a quick recovery for Mork
  13. Oh BJ, I'm so very sorry. Way too much loss in way too short a period of time. Continue to take care of yourself, OK?

I'm so sorry. Don't beat yourself up, especially after all of these years. Think about how young you were when that happened. Additionally, how many people would know to think about bloat, especially if they weren't associated with some kind of dog community. You took her for help as soon as your realized something was wrong.
  15. With all due respect, I really think it's worth getting a tick panel completed. Every time there are strange symptoms or things that don't make sense, I always think tick disease. About ticks not being in your area, it doesn't matter. Shorty after I adopted Phoenix, I noticed that he became tired very easily. He couldn't even cross the street without resting. I finally found a vet who would send a blood sample out for testing, and sure enough he had a tick borne disease called babesia. The reason why I had so much difficulty finding a vet that would have him tested was because the offending tick (the brown tick) doesn't even live in Canada, which is where we live. Phoenix would have been infected sometime during his puppyhood or during his racing career. As Diane said, the disease can lay dormant for years. They can have a strange assortment of symptoms which often don't make sense. These diseases can be fatal if untreated. I have no doubt that had I not had Phoenix tested and treated (with medication that had to be imported to Canada as it isn't available here), he would no longer be alive.
  16. Phoenix started acting like that when he began to lose his eyesight, only he wouldn't go upstairs. Has your vet taken a look at his eyes?
