  5. Ooh, that arnica is a great idea. there is a GNC on 85th/2nd ave, I'll bet they have it. I know you have checked his pads, have you checked in between his toes to see if something is stuck in there? Every so often Aquitaine will get something (acorns, pebbles, bits of wood) stuck in there and I have to get it out.
  6. How is William doing this morning?
  7. I can only echo what everyone is saying, please don't give up hope. Equally important, please don't give up faith in yourself that you are doing everything you possibly can for Canyon. Eaglflyt made a very good point when she said "The muscle spasms can come in *attacks* and they are terribly painful. Also, his guarding his neck with being tense can trigger the spasms from that activity, too." For the first several years after I broke my back (and a few years after I broke my skull...and really, I am rather graceful, both were accidents that happend to me as opposed to clutziness) my back would spasm so badly that you'd think an alien was trying to get out. After my head injury there were prolonged periods where if I turned my head in either direction, it would stay that way for days. Even as a child, I was able to realize that these things were as a result of my accidents. Canyon doesn't reason that way, he only knows he hurts, not why he hurts. His cries could be as much frustration as they are pain. At least I could ask for heat packs (I hated the medication because the best solution was rest so they just kept me asleep) when I was in pain, Canyon can't. You are doing an amazing job thinking for him and trying to anticipate what he needs and getting him every possible test and care. It may just, as you've heard already, take a lot of time for Canyon to come out of this. That said, when our pups hurt, it does seem as though time lengthens dramatically. I truly believe that the day is coming when Canyon will stand up, give himself a mightly full body shake out and be back to his true self.
  8. I am so very sorry. Godspeed, Softee.
  9. Sadly, those of us in NYC don't have good access to Walmart, Target, Costco, etc. without a car and/or a way out of the city. I use PetMeds, HealthyPets and the vet depending on urgency of filling the scrip.
  10. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers for Canyon. I agree with the others that his poor muscles must be really bothering him. I used a moist heat pack on my Scarlett after one surgery that I have used since I broke my back. The e-vet suggested using hot packs but said they meant wash cloths soaked in hot water. Those get cold in 5 minutes so I checked with my own vet about using my moist heat pack on her and he said it would be fine. I was able to see the difference in her within a very short time. The heat pack is called a hydrocollator. It is clay that you boil (or microwave) then wrap in layers of towels (or you can get burned) and the moist heat penetrates the towels. They really do work. Since greyhound thin skin and a lack of body fat means the heat would be higher for her, I used to put it on my back for 30 minutes then put it on Scarlett for 30 minutes. I would happily send you one for Canyon, or you can buy them here linky. I use the standard size (10" x 12").
  11. First, ****. Second, enjoy every single moment you have. No matter how silly. Feed him caviar (the supermarket kind) just for the fun of it. Get him a lovely steak. Love on him as much as you can. He won't know why, he will just enjoy the heck out of it. Holding you and Willie in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers for Kylie and for you.

    I am so very sorry.
  15. I found out here on GT about non-anesthetic teeth cleaning. Aquitaine had it done in February and I am really happy with the results. We will go the next time the woman is in New York City because her teeth were really dirty and I want to vigilant about keeping them clean. I brush and wipe with peroxide as well. I the search I used on here was non-anaestheic teeth cleaning. Here is the link to the service itself: http://houndstoothdental.com. I know she goes to most of the big greyhound meetings like Solvang, etc. Aquitaine just laid in her lap and let her do the cleaning, at one point she even went to sleep. I held her legs lightly and there was no twitching or whining or anything. The whole thing took less than an hour and cost $170. I did tell my vet about what I was doing because he wanted her teeth cleaned, I shared the website info with him and he was interested in the idea. I promised him that if she was uncomfortable, or the cleaning wasn't good that I would go ahead and do a regular cleaning but I really don't see that we will have to do that.
  16. I love Dr. Andy. He is really wonderful. I'm sure he loved William!!!! He used to have ridgebacks (he had a great one named Lucy before he became a vet, when he lived in my building) and he did a lot of work with sighthounds at Animal Medical Center. It is really a secure feeling to know that your vet knows houndie needs. I'm so glad that he was able to help William!
  17. I am so very sorry. That was a truly beautiful prayer. Godspeed Toby.
  18. Thank you for the update. I was beginning to worry when nothing was heard. Keeping Diamond and her mom in my thoughts and prayers.
