  1. Corinna's spay sutures are still easily felt under her skin also. She was spayed at 2 years old and now is nearly 8. I showed the vet years ago and she didn't seem concerned. I'm thinking the vets may have used non disolving sutures by mistake or something, but it's not causing her any trouble so it's not a big deal.
  2. I've never personally used one but I asked someone who does and they suggested Pathways holistic pet center. They have a FB page. Hope this helps.
  3. My guys have been on revolution for years. never had any issues with it.
  4. Just to clarify Corinna never had the corn surgically removed. We got the pain under control with meds and eventually was able to take her off those as well. Just to update, I did an epsom salt soak yesterday and today but the pain is far worse then it was yesterday. There is a definite hole in the pad where the hard callous part of the corn was. I think it got torn out but have no idea how that's possible. The pad is also visibly swollen today so I fear it may be infected. I'm calling the vet first thing in the morning to try to get an appointment tomorrow.
  5. Okay I will try the soak and see what happens. It was definitely a corn we were dealing with,as shes had it for a couple years now. Although I've never seen it do this before so I guess she could have gotten a foreign object in the toe as well. Could a corn fall out on its own? It almost looks like it was hulled to deep and has bled. I know it wasn't though as no one else in the house would have besides me.
  6. Corinna has had bad corn for a while. We almost surgically removed it because it was getting so painful for her this fall. The pain subsided though and it hasn't given her much issue for the last couple months. Yesterday I noticed her limping on it again and when I looked at it, it appeared ready to hull. I didn't have time to do right then but today I went to hull it and noticed it's red and bleeding. It looks like the hard callous part is missing but I didn't touch it. I know no one else in the house did either. Has anyone seen that before? She very lame on it again too. I don't know if this picture shows it clearly or not. But it's the best I could get with my cell.
  7. Thanks for posting it but unfortunately I've tried most of those suggestions in the article already. Ive been using duct tape, hulling and using the therapaw up until this point. I will ask the vet if its something she could do or perhaps refer me somewhere that could. I have another appointment scheduled for Weds. I will ask about the nerve block then. Even though I'm relieved its most likely a corn issue I just cant shake the nagging feeling something else is going on.
  8. I'm so sorry for your tremendous loss. Run free Phoenix
  9. Great news, Corinna's Xrays were clear!!! Vet didn't see anything remarkable at all, no sign of cancer or arthritis. They didn't have digital xrays so I took pictures with my phone but they aren't very clear I'll post them if people want to see them. So it looks like we are dealing with a very painful corn. She is at the point she won't put weight on the foot at all. I was given tramadol as well as meloxicam to try to hopefully reduce some or all the pain she in. So far I haven't seen any real improvement though. Im hoping we can get a handle on this soon. She barely moves off her bed all day.
  10. I made an appointment for tuesday with a new clinic my dog walker recommended. Unfortunately it's a holiday weekend so I couldn't get an earlier appointment. Corinna hasn't gotten any better and I think it may be a bit worse. I'm quite worried now as I was running my hand down her leg to feel for and lumps or bumps and part way down her forearm she yelped and snapped at me. I really wasn't using much pressure at all. I have her tramadol every 12 hours but I haven't noticed a difference. I just feel horrible for her. Tuesday can't come soon enough.
  11. I found out the vet I saw is not the owner of the clinic. I also got the owners email address and I'm considering writing an email listing my concerns regarding the appointment. I think I will try a different clinic though. I'm just very angry about the whole situation.
  12. I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow after I get a chance to discuss with my DH if he thinks we should switch clinics or not. I'm leaning towards just asking for a different vet there because they have her history. I definitely don't want to wait on it. If it does turn out to be just a corn though what can I do to alleviate the pain?
  13. I have a therapaw for her. It's not making much of a difference with the limp though. Nor is walking on carpet or soft grass which is unusual for a her normal corn pain.
  14. Sorry this is part rant part question so please bear with me. Corinna has had corns on 3 of her feet for a couple years now. I've managed them fairly well with hulling and duct tape. Recently she's been limping more and more on her right front foot. I became quite concerned something more was going on as the usual hulling hasn't helped. I brought her to our vet clinic over a month ago and the vet then said it may have been an injury and prescribed tramadol for her. She took it for about a week and the limp although still present wasn't nearly as bad. So last week I noticed the limp getting a lot worse again.I was able to hull the corn on the foot but even after that there was no real improvement. I went away this last weekend and came home Sunday night to Corinna not even being able to put her foot down. She is now just holding up the paw and hopping on three legs. So the earliest appointment I could get for her was today. I had never dealt with this vet before but I believe he owns the clinic. The first thing he told me was that corns in dogs don't exist. I do understand that greyhounds are a unique breed so I was just trying to kindly say that they are quite common in the breed when declared" I've been a vet for 35 years and never seen a greyhound with a corn" I then informed him Ive only owned greyhounds for 7 years but I can name at least 10 I know personally with them. He then proceeded to tell me that I hulled the corn ( which I guess now just magically do exist) too deep which I know I didn't as it's just flush with her pad and I never dig down. I explained I didn't in which he told me because her teeth are bad ( and I do realize she needs a dental) that it's worsening her limp so if I did a dental she might get better. Now I do understand bad teeth can cause poor health but I hardly think it's the cause of this particular issue. When I told him I was worried that it's something more then the corn bothering her he suggested I xray the leg when we did the dental. I'm sorry but I don't have the $1000 quoted for a dental right now and I really would just like to focus on the immediate issue. So I asked if they could just xray her leg he told me he wouldn't do it with out sedating her even though she's had xrays at that clinic without sedation. I would have been willing to pay for the sedation up until he said I should wait anyways because if it is cancer it would still be there once I could afford the dental. I was livid by this point and basically told him I'd be seeing another vet either at this clinic or another one. I was charged $90 for the examination fee which I'm also annoyed at because he did nothing at all for her. He did come out while I was paying and said he didn't feel we were on the same page and he would do research on corns and get back to me. Not that I want his advice anymore. So during the exam he told me to put hydrocortisone on her pad. Would this help and if so how long would it take? Also should I give her the tramadol I still have left for her? I'm still debating if I should see another vet clinic or just as a different vet in the clinic as the other two I've seen I've liked. I guess lastly could you spare some good thoughts for her. At only 7 I hate to see her in this much discomfort.
  15. Corinna has had corns on her front feet for a couple years now. I've been hulling them myself for over a year now. Usually she gets some relief afterwards but this last time she is still limping terribly on her front right leg. The corn in that foot is the larger of the two so I do hope it's just the corn bothering her but I'm getting concerned that there may be more going on. So my question is, is there a way the vets can determine if it's corn pain or something else causing the limp without the whole cost of X rays? For example freezing the foot or something to see if the limp is still there? I will spend the money if need be but I don't really have the money to spend unnecessarily. The vet I go to now didn't seem to know a whole lot about corns in the first place but did look at information I gave them so they seem willing to learn at least. So maybe if I go in with a plan I can save myself some cost of unneeded test.
  16. It seems to me that if euthanasia is really being considered then what harm would feeding her whatever she wants to eat be? At the very least it would show you if she has no appetite for any food which could indicate a larger problem or just simply not liking the kidney diet she's on.
  17. I had two boys at the same time. We had no issues whatsoever, as they were good friends. When first boy passed away we got a girl and still have no issues. Wally my male is very passive in the house so he would probably get along fine with most other dogs.
  18. Any updates? I hope he's doing much better now.
  19. I've responded to your other post but thought I'd post it again here. I don't think Nina ignoring the baby should be seen as a bad thing. I think its a very appropriate response. I'd sure rather that then her be over curious of Sophia. Is Nina used to being crated/ locked in the Master bath when you leave? If she's used to free run of the house this might explain her soiling in the house.
  20. I have no advice but I just wanted to say congratulations. Mr Spock is adorable. I'm so happy you were able to open your heart and adopt another grey.
  21. The thing is she is desensitized to this kind of thing. She's lived with a kid now for 3 years, my oldest DD runs, screams, laughs and Corinna doesn't lift her head. She follows me and the kids room to room and never seems perturbed by the commotion. I've blown on the kids tummies a thousand times before without any reaction. I'm definitely going to be more careful if Corinna gets to close while we are playing with the kids and either stop the game or bring her to another room. She's been acting totally normal today. I wish I knew what upset her yesterday.
  22. The first incident with my DH may have been play but I'm pretty certain last night it was not. My baby really was only giggling not that high pitched squeal kids love to do. It was really quite a bit calmer in the room then it normally is. My 3 year-old was just colouring and nothing much else was going on. Corinna has heard the baby giggle many times before and never had shown any interest in it. That's why its got me baffled.
  23. This actually happened last night, but I'm still confused as to why it happened, so I'm just looking for some insight so I can avoid it happening again. I was playing with my baby ( 6 months) on the floor. I was just blowing on her tummy and she was giggling. I had been doing this for a few minutes. Corinna had come up behind me at some point and was standing slightly behind my back with her head over my shoulder. She does this often. I remember giving her a quick pet and returned to my game with the baby. I heard a growl and before I knew it Corinna had bit me on the cheek below my eye. Well bite might not be the right word as she didn't break the skin, but her teeth did contact my face. I only have a slight red mark now so really no damage was done. I know Corinna is very protective of the kids and actually did give my DH a good bite on the bum last year. ( tore his pants and gave him a bruise) when he was chasing my oldest daughter ( 2 at the time) around the table. My DD was screaming and laughing and with the excitement Corinna got a little carried away. We didn't fault her for it as we could tell she was confused and over excited by the game. We now just put her out of the room when we are playing with my DD like that. I really don't know what triggered it last night. As soon as it happened I kind of screamed as it startled me more then anything. Corinna just went and lay down besides me as if nothing happened. Corinna is a great dog, beyond patient with the kids, not that we ever let them harass her. She's cuddly and loving. She's never shown any space aggression with anybody or animal. I'm totally baffled here. Just wanted to add she is 6, we've had her almost 4 years and there is no chance of her losing her home because of this.
