  1. Wally slept soundly all night once I went to bed. I will see how he is after his dose this morning. He's always seemed to be more sensitive to medication then my other other two greyhounds were. I have the 300 mg capsules so if it happens again I may use half until I hear from my vet.
  2. I left a message with my vet a couple days ago to lower his dose as I feel it's probably stronger then he needs. She isn't in the office until Tuesday though. He's has been sleeping fine up until this point. This seemed to come on very suddenly, he was fine this afternoon.
  3. Wally started gabapentin on Wednesday. Seemed to have no ill effects up until now. Tonight I've noticed he's become increasingly clumsy. He's stumbled over his feet a few times just walking and he's tripped on the stairs and also going on to his bed which is only around 4" off the ground. He's also pacing and whining and won't settle down for the night which he normally does by now. Could this be a side effect of the drug or should I be concerned something else is going on? Thanks I'm worried about my boy.
  4. Ok thank you everyone. I was really worried they wrote the instructions wrong on the bottle. The vets office actually just called and said it was an error they only gave one weeks worth.
  5. What is a good starting dose for gabapentin. My vet prescribed 300mg ×2 daily. I only ask because she said she was giving a two week supply but only gave enough for one week. I asked at reception but they said the vet is out of the office for a few days. I just am worried to over dose him if it was only supposed to be given once daily. thanks in advance.
  6. A culture was done and came up negative.
  7. Wally has been having quite a few accidents in the house lately. He also has been having issues with dragging and tripping with his hind legs. I had a previous thread about issues recently. I had him at the vets last week and just managed to talk to the vet today about his blood / urine results. His blood work came back pristine, but his specific gravity on the urine test was quite low. It was 1.017, this was collected during his first morning pee. The vet noted in October it was at 1.028 ( also the first morning pee) The vet wants a recheck in a month and didn't say any specific things I should do or change in the mean time. Is this the correct approach? She also gave him gabapentin for his hind legs to see if it helps him out. She said she will add a NSAID after 2 weeks if he is still having trouble with his legs. I'm hoping it does work for him.
  8. Thanks going to look up LS. I don't find his back end droops, he actually stands very square and definitely doesn't look like a nearly 12 old dog. He's my boy, I hate seeing him getting older and starting to have trouble.
  9. Wally is going to be 12 in February. Since the summer he's really starting to slow down. Sometime in the fall he started to hesitate going down the stairs and urinate in the house. We also noticed he dragged his right back foot slightly when he walked and didn't pick it up high enough going up stairs. I brought him to the vets. Bloodwork was great, x-ray were good, urune culture was clean. Vet said the wasn't even much evidence of arthritis. We made more of an effort to get him out regularly ( we started getting him up to go outside every couple hours instead of him waiting to ask to go out). He was also put on meticam, which really didn't agree with his stomach. Mostly the peeing stopped with only the occasional accident. We also try to keep him on the main level of the house during the day so he doesn't have to do as many stairs. Within the last couple weeks though it's almost as if he doesn't even know he's urinating. He'll get up and start to walk around and pee will just be streaming out. He makes trails of pee all over the place which takes so long to clean up. His legs also seem to slip out from under him when he's on the hardwood or tile. I'm making a vet appointment today but anyone know what could be going on so I can ask the vet?

  11. I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart sunk when I read his name, Ben truly was special.
  12. I agree with others. She should be allowed far more freedom within the home at least while you're home and awake. Being locked in the kitchen all the time isn't really fair in the long term. I hope your husband can be presuaded. Good luck.
  13. Thanks everyone. I'll just keep an eye on her then. We're heading up to the cottage tomorrow night so I really hope nothing comes of it.
  14. Corinna was in the yard with me this afternoon and she somehow found a rotting squirrel carcass. I saw her with it in her mouth and she dropped it the second I told her too, but I don't know how long she had it for or if she actually ate any as I was doing some gardening at the time so wasn't paying all that close attention to the dogs. The squirrel definitely was dead a while. Should I just watch and see if she shows any sign of illness or should I be doing something more like a vet trip? thanks in advance.
  15. So sweet!! And what a nice sit! I'm no expert but I certainly don't see any Dane in her, not that it matters.
  16. I think it may have been calcium oxalate she said. I don't currently have the urinalysis but I can try to get by the clinic tomorrow and pick it up. I also recall her saying she had protein in the urine as well. Now I'm getting concerned something is wrong with my girl, although she acting perfectly normal.
  17. The vet got the urinalysis results back. Her specific gravity is 1.05, the vet was happy with the result. She did say she was positive for bilirubin in the sample but was most concerned that she had a high concentration of crystals. I can't remember the exact name but she said it was the only kind that wasn't disolvable with medication. She's recommended a bladder x ray to check for stones.
  18. Thanks everyone for the advice, I can always count on GT. I haven't talked to the vet again but you've all convinced me to bring a urine sample in to get checked.
  19. Thanks for the reply. The vet is going to call be back so I'll ask about her previous blood work.
  20. Corinna had routine bloodwork done and I just received a call saying everything was perfect except her creatinine was very slightly elevated. They said hers was 151 and the normal reference range was 40-146. I do know greyhounds creatinine is higher then other dogs so I'm not really concerned but my vet is insisting on urinalysis to look further. Would this be warranted in this case. I have a very sick cat right now and Corinna is definitely over due for a dental so the vet fund is dwindling quickly. Not that I won't spend it but I don't want to do unnecessary testing.
