  5. Having just lost my beloved Hobbes to hemangiosarcoma in December I truly know what you are going through right now. Believe me even if you had gotten the diagnosis right away it wouldn't have changed anything, this cancer is just so aggressive. I pray you have many good days left with him to spoil him rotten and shower him with love. If you ever want to talk don't hesitate to contact me. I know the support I received from GT after Hobbes diagnosis helped get me through so much.

    Wilbur ....

I lost Hobbes to hemangiosarcoma in December, so I know how merciless this disease is. I'm so sorry for your tremendous loss, it was so apparent from your posts how much he was truly loved. Run free Wilbur.
  7. Congratulations!!!!! Graham has the sweetest white face . I look forward to the updates as he relaxes and shows that goofy side. What do the girls think of him?
  8. No one mentioned rooing. I know lots of scent hounds and other dogs howl but the greyhound roo is different, sort of.
  9. Here is hoping he beats the odds and is in the 10%. Sending many prayers to Tanner and your whole family.
  10. Interesting, I never even thought of that. I don't do it on the the mornings walk as I already wake up at an insanely early hour but I sort of already do that the other times I take them out. We go in the park and when they have gone to the bathroom, then we walk. I have to ask my DH what he does, because he is having the issue not me, you really could be on to something. She is a really smart girl after all.
  11. We've only had Corinna for close to 3 weeks but she has been very good right from day 1 about doing all her business outside. Within the last week or so though, she has developed a bad habit of not peeing on her mid morning walk. I leave for work at 4:45am so I take them out at 4am for a 15-20 minute walk which she always pees on. My husband who mainly works afternoons takes them out again at 10am. She will sometimes pee for him and sometimes not, even though he will walk her for 30+ minutes try to get her to. If she doesn't pee he will bring her out again at around 12-1ish before he leaves for work, she will always pee by then. Problem is the days he does work in the mornings (which is around 1-2 times a week)we have a dog walker come by and Corinna does the same thing with her. She wouldn't pee for the dog walker today and I came home to pee in the crate. She simply can't hold it until I get home at 2:30 to take them out again. She has to learn she has to go pee during this walk. Our dog walker can not come any later in the morning then she already does because of her schedule with her other clients and the next time she has a break is after 1pm but even then we simply can't afford to get her to come twice in a day. So how do I get Corinna to understand she has to pee when she is taken out? I already throw her a party with treats and the happy voice ever time she pees and always say "Corinna go pee" when I see her squat to hopefully associate the words to the action. I think a part of the problem though is the morning has a lot of activity in the area with squirrels out then and a lot of dogs walking around, Corinna just gets really distracted. I was thinking of telling my DH to not take her out a second time so that she learns that the option won't be available anymore but I'm not sure if that would work or not. Any suggestions? I forgot to say this is the only time of day she does this, every other outing she pees almost immediately. She also has only ever peed in her crate twice both times when the dog walker took her out,and never anywhere else in the house but her crate.
  12. Good boy Ben!!!!! Watching the shy dogs come out of their shells is probably the most rewarding thing.
  13. From what I've been told by my vet the X-rays belong to the patient not the vet. They should be able to send them to your regular vet. Sending prayers for Ranger.

  15. Corinna has a higher prey drive then my other two had so this is the first time I've had to deal with prey drive when it comes to other dogs. When Corinna first came home she was way too interested in the cats and even lunged at them a couple times, leashed and muzzled of course. With consistent corrections and treat/praise when she ignored/looked away from them, it only took her about a week to understand kitties were off the menu. That being said I think it will be a long time yet until I fully trust her with them unsupervised. When Corinna sees a small dog she immediately puts her ears and tail up, starts prancing and whining. I've been doing the same tactic as I did with the cat training. I give a small leash check accompanied by saying "Corinna No" I then call her name and when she looks at me I give her a treat. I usually continue to walk past the dog giving her treats as I go as long as she is looking at me and not at the other dog. I have to say she is very good about passing dogs now and will usually look to me as soon as she spots a dog for her treat even when they are within a few feet. When she isn't moving though, like when we wait at a traffic light or in the elevator lobby and a small dog is close by or within sight she wont focus on me or the treat and continues to look at the dog and whines and even tries to lunge(I never let her) no matter what I do. I think a lot of it is just curiosity but my neighborhood is full of little dogs, literally hundreds as I live in an area densely populated with condos. In the winter I don't encounter to many off leash small dogs but come summer our area is plagued with dogs off leash whose owners have no control of. I hate to think what would happen if a small dog actually runs up to her at this point. So that means I have a couple months to work on this before it becomes a huge issue and even though I realize the other owners should have control of their dogs I really don't want to see any ones dog get hurt no matter where the fault lies. So am I doing it right? I just want to get her to the point she will ignore/not eat other dogs even if they are close by or even come in to her space (which I will try my best to avoid). I just want to note she is fine with dogs that seem to be 30+ lbs, she has meet several and gives a quick sniff and goes on her way. Any advice is appreciated.

  20. They're both looking great!!!!! I can't believe Apollo is only one week post amp, he is moving around very well.
  21. I live in a condo and take my dogs out 5 times a day. They get 4 short walk (10-15 minutes)pretty much every 6 hours to relieve themselves and one long walk in the afternoon(1+hour). That being said both could probably make it 8 hours or more but I got in a habit because my previous dog had kidney issues and couldn't hold it more then 6 hours. I continued because it works for us, and I feel better knowing they aren't straining to hold it. In my opinion 3 times a day should be the bare minimum but really 4-5 is preferable.
  22. I hope Treasure is feeling a lot better today.
