  1. We live in a place where everyone has a privacy fence and yards are very small. Until a couple of months ago, no one lived behind us (there are two back yards behind us). The first people to move in have a small yappy dog. Every time I so much as opened my back door, the dog would start barking. At first, Marlow just ignored it - didn't even act like he knew a dog was there. After a few weeks though he started "stalking" the fence area (reminded me of cat). He would just stare at the fence while the other dog went crazy. Just recently someone moved into the other house and they have 3 dogs (a Golden and 2 small dogs). Marlow and other dogs stare at each other through the fence but now Marlow has started running along the fence and barking. He has scrapes on his paws so I think he his "hitting" at the fence. Now he wants to go outside all the time for the purpose of interacting with these dogs. I'm worried that somehow one of the other dogs will get hurt or just that something will happen. When I catch Marlow barking and running the fence I bring him back inside. I'm frustrated because I feel like I can't let my dogs out (they like to nap in the sun). Is there anything I can do to diffuse this situation? Marlow seems to be getting more and more cranked up. Thanks.
  2. Anxious to read the replies - I've had my own issues with off leash dogs.
  3. Thank you Lillypad for the correct spelling of squawker! It was driving me crazy because I knew I was wrong but didn't have time to look it up. Thanks for the input too!
  4. Of my 5 greyhounds, 3 responded to a squaker - they would come running and I'd give them a treat. We'd do this once in awhile with the hope that if they ever got away, they'd come back to a squaker. They responded immediately but didn't go nuts. My 4th greyhound doesn't respond at all and my 5th one GOES CRAZY! We got Rumor in January and today I got the squaker out to see if she'd respond and maybe work on some recall. She came running, wasn't the slightest bit interested in the treat but kept looking for the squaker (she didn't see it in my hands). After she calmed down and stated playing in the yard, I did it again - she went crazy looking for the squaker and trying to get a hold of it. She totally didn't care about the treats. I put the squaker away and she nearly turned the chest over that I put it on trying to get it. She's been sitting at the door of the room it is in ever since (sometimes scratching at the door). So, what does she want? I thought about getting a stuffie that I keep with the squaker and only let her play with it when she comes. I'm also thinking that since she responds so well that I should just put it away and hope I never need it but know she will probably respond to it if she ever gets out. Thoughts? Thanks!
  5. Beautiful tribute. So sorry for your loss.
  6. New location or different bowls (metal, glass, plastic). Good luck!
  7. Good luck! Will be thinking of you all today. Beautiful picture, by the way.
  8. I second/third/etc/ sending your xrays to Dr.Couto ASAP. When 2 vets couldn't give us a definite answer as to what was causing our hound's leg pain, Dr. Couto was able to confirm the DX just by looking at the xray. Good luck and hugs .
  9. Interesting - we feed ND Turkey and Sweet Potato and he has recently started eating less of it.
  10. I figured she was getting walks and had access to the outdoors at other times but thought I'd mention it just in case. Good luck - those late night potty calls can really take their toll on a person!
  11. I may be misunderstanding, but does she only get 2 bathroom opportunities a day? If so, that may be the problem. Try taking her out more often. It also might take awhile to reset her system.
  12. So sorry for your loss.
  13. What would be considered moderate protein levels?
  14. I can't figure out how to post pictures in this forum.
  15. Thanks! I think her size has me feeling like she is a puppy, puppy. We've never had a greyhound this small (we usually go for the big hounds). She is such a petite little thing, especially compared to Marlow. I forget that she isn't going to get any taller . Thanks again.
  16. At what age is a greyhound considered an adult? We adopted a 21 month old and the kennel was feeding her adult food. I just want to make sure this is appropriate for her age. We just got her and haven't gotten to the vet yet. Thanks!
  17. On Saturday we went to the track and let Marlow pick a friend. Her name is Brave Rumor (we call her Rumor) and she is a 21 month old bundle of brindle energy. We are enjoying her puppy antics.
  18. Based on an experience we had with our grey, I'm guessing she's cold. Can you put a dog bed in that corner? I think that might offer more warmth than just blankets (could add the blankets to the bed). Good luck!
  19. Doggie dementia - have had 2 dogs with it (one grey and one terrier).
  20. I just checked my DS's amitriptyline and he takes 10mg, not 5mg. Sorry for the misinformation.
