  1. Pictures of Silver and Holly with their gifts from their Secret Santa. Checking out the box. Silver opening one of his presents. Silver modeling his new Panthers coat with Holly checking it out also. Holly in her new coat. I think it looks really good on her! Their are more packages to be opened but we are trying very hard to wait until Christmas! Thanks again Secret Santa Leah!
  2. Dear Leah, Romeo, Abbey and Sweetie, Thank you sooo much for the package! It came on the perfect day - it has been snowing all day so it really feels like Christmas here now and the package added to the feeling. I let Holly and Silver each open a gift - the coats are wonderful and VERY much needed! Silver tossed his package in the air a few times before opening it - we all LOVE the Panthers coat!!!! It is just perfect. I can't tell you how excited we are to have it and Silver looks very handsome in it. Holly didn't know what to do with her present (this is her first Christmas in a home) so I opened it for her. The coat is beautiful and looks great on her! We are saving the other presents until Christmas (unless there is something we should open before then). I'll post pictures soon! Thanks again! Kim, Silver and Holly
  3. Dear Secret Santa, The package is here and we are sooooo excited!!! We haven't opened the box yet because we are waiting for DH to get home. I'll be back later to report. I told myself that we weren't going to open the presents until Christmas but now that it is here I don't know if we can wait (that is why I am waiting for DH to arrive to even open the box!) Thank you! I'll post again later! Kim, Holly and Silver

Sweet innocent Sari - run free! I'm so sorry. My heart is just broken. Kim

  6. Dear Evil Elf, Below you will find pictures of my hounds! I am soooo excited to be able to finally post pictures! Thank you for all of your help. Silver is black and Holly is white. Reasons why we should fall in love with and spoil your babes: SILVER HAS HAD A VERY DIFFICULT YEAR . IN MARCH HE LOST HIS BEST GREYHOUND FRIEND, LUCKY, TO OSTEO. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER BEEN AN ONLY DOG AND SO HE WAS VERY LONELY. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY WE MOVED 2 WEEKS LATER AND SO SILVER LOST HIS BIG FENCED IN BACKYARD WITH LOTS OF SQUIRRELS AND HIS BEST NON-GREY FRIEND, SHADY ( WHO I UNDERSTAND STILL LOOKS OUT THE WINDOW FOR HIM EVERYDAY). SILVER IS A VERY SWEET BUT SOMEWHAT INSECURE GUY SO EXTRA LOVE AND SPOILING WOULD REALLY HELP HIM ON HIS ROAD TO EMOTIONAL RECOVERY. 7. Dr. Couto contact info (or at least a place to start): email - greyosu@osu.edu website - www.vet.osu.edu/1872.htm Good luck! Kim
  8. When Lucky was limping last year I was told by someone on a greyhound board not to do a bone biopsy because it was soooo painful. Unfortunately we were told that AFTER the biopsy had been done. I don't know the name of the type of biopsy done (it wasn't a fine needle aspiration) but I know they took a "punch" of the bone to get a sample. THe vet thought it was cancer by just how the bone reacted when punched BUT the biopsy came back negative for cancer. The biopsy was WRONG - she did have bone cancer and we got confirmation of that when we sent our x-rays to Dr. Couto to look at. I would think twice about the biopsy. I am hoping and praying that snowman just has a soft tissue injury! Good luck! Hugs, Kim, Silver and Holly
  9. Oh My ! I'm in such trouble! Maybe this will be what it takes for me to learn how to post pictures . Okay, I'm working on the advertisements and those measurements! It may take the whole family to get some of those . I'll post soon! Kim
  10. I wouldn't be too worried, especially if she isn't upset and the bleeding is under control. If the bleeding has stopped then you are probably okay....for now. Our one pup got her tail slammed in the screen door - it bled like crazy! My garage looked like a crime scene with blood splatter. I can't remember if we took her to the vet the same day or the next (I know we didn't go to the E-vet). The vet wanted to amputate part of the tail but DH said no and to try to stitch it first and see waht happened. Fortunately the stitches worked and she was fine. Our other grey broke his tail open because he had such "happy tail" and we were able to wrap it and get it to heal. I think the biggest problem is that the skin is so thin on the tail that it is difficult to stitch it and even if you can wrap it or stitch it it tends to break open easily. That said, both of my pups healed fine with their tail accidents. Good luck!
  11. Thanks for asking these questions! I'm a newbie and was wondering about the "reveal" as well. Thanks for posting!
  12. I'm so sorry. She was sooo cute. Kim, Silver and Holly
  13. We had a 4 foot fence in our last and both hounds were fine (it was the fence we put in long before we got our hounds) - no jumping problems even when Silver would chase the squirrels and cats. They would go over the fence and he wouldn't. We moved recently and are in the process of building a new fence. Our neighborhood has a 4 foot max height restriction. I'm a little nervous this time around because we have a new hound and while she is small I've seen her jump pretty high in the house (ie. the stairs, the bed). We will be supervising them while outside in the yard for awhile. So if you can put a higher fence in that would be great but if you have any restrictions a 4 foot will work. I really think it depends a lot on the dogs - some are jumpers and some aren't. Good luck and welcome to the world of greyhounds! Kim, Holly and Silver
  14. It is possible for the foot to get caught in the collar. This happened to our first grey, Lucky. Fortunately I was close by and was able to help her. She was wearing her martingale collar. She also got her mouth caught in it one time. Again, I was nearby. I really need to get my pups tag collars. Kim
  15. Thanks for bumping. After what I went through late last year with my grey Lucky (died of OS) I wish I would have known of some place to refer my vet. I will definitely pass this info on to my new vet. Thanks! Kim, Silver and Holly
  16. Thanks Diane. We have no idea what has caused this - not aware of her eating anything out of the norm, food is the same and nothing stressful going on here. If it continues we will definitely get her to the vet. She is acting fine so she doesn't appear to feel bad. She ate her normal breakfast this morning and had some plain yogurt and a little PB this afternoon (at a greyhound ice cream social) but nothing since. Should I not give her dinner and then start the bland diet tomorrow morning? Or is it better to feed her tonight? Thanks.
  17. After reading other posts on the subject I'm confused as to the best route to take. Holly has the big D (started yesterday but DH just told me earlier today ) and I'm not sure what to do...fast her, rice only, hamburger only, mixture of hamburger and rice, etc. Can anybody clarify for me? Also, I'd like to give her some immodium before bed. If she fasts can I give her the meds on an empty stomach? (Probably a stupid question since it is a medicine for tummy upsets but thought I'd check...) Thanks, Kim, Silver and Holly
  18. I'm so sorry. I've been following your story and so hoped all would be well. I lost a grey in March and I know how terrible this time is for you. You did everything you could for him. Hugs, Kim, Silver and Holly
  19. Good luck at the vet! I think the disease that can look like OS is Valley Fever - can someone verify that? Kim, Silver and Holly
  20. I'm so sorry you are facing this. I went through a similar situation late last fall with my 5 year old grey. The xray was suspicious but the biopsy came back "clean". Unfortunately it did turn out to be OS - I got my definitive diagnosis from Dr. Couto. I sent my xrays to him. Anyway, if my memory is correct, there is/are some tick borne diseases that can look like OS. I can't remember what it is though. I know someone here will be able to tell you the name. Also, another greyt place to get medical info is Circle of Greys yahoo group. They were wonderful when I was trying to figure out what was wrong with Lucky (and equally wonderful when I was dealing with her OS). I don't have the address here but will get it for you if you want it. Keeping fingers and paws crossed that your pup doesn't have OS. Good luck! Kim, Silver and Holly
  21. Silver is back at the vet this morning. The full cost of an extraction is around $400 (that is all inclusive - xrays, pain meds, anesthesia, extraction, etc.). A root canal would be around $500 (again, that includes everything). I don't know if the vet doing the work is a certified dental specialist but he is the only one in the practice that will do a root canal. He apparently is the dental "specialist" within the practice. I felt bad leaving Silver there this morning - he looked so sad. I really hope I don't have to make a decision on this - at this point money isn't deciding factor (with a $100 difference between the procedures). The concern is whether a root canal will be done properly, will the "crown" hold up or will I have to keep having it replaced (money becomes an issue now if I have to keep paying for replacements and of course I don't want to keep havng him put under anesthesia any more than necessary), will the tooth have to be pulled in the end anyway. Silver is only 5 years old so I do hate having his tooth pulled at this point and extraction sounds like a major undertaking. Oh well, we'll see waht the vet says when he calls...
