  1. The only harm with the yogurt would be that it might make the antibiotic less effective. Usually they tell humans not to have dairy products within so many hours of the antibiotic. I hope he feels better soon! I hate Cephalexin (nearly impossible to get my pups to take) and so do my dogs! Good luck! KIm
  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your tribute was beautiful as was Arco. Hugs, Kim

  9. Thanks everyone! Good news - Silver's xrays show no obvious bone tumor! BUT, the vet is concerned that although he is in pain it may be too soon to see radiographic changes due to cancer. She did all kinds of manipulations with his leg and he never gave any indication that anything she did was painful. So, he will be on pain meds and lots of rest for the next 10 days and hopefully by then he will be feeling better. If he still is in pain then we will continue pain meds and eventually re-xray. She also checked for Lyme's disease and Ehrlichia which came back negative. So, we are in wait and see mode for awhile. This is all very reminiscent of what we went through with Lucky . Thanks for all of your prayers and good thoughts. Kim, Silver (rest?! No problem! I'm good at resting!) and Holly (rest?! You have got to be kidding! Who am I going to play with! I need someone to chase around the yard!)
  10. Silver has been limping for several days so this morning I took him to the vet's. There is nothing obviously wrong and he didn't "cry" when she did all of her checks of him so I left him at the office so that they can do x-rays. I'm trying to have positive thoughts but having lost Lucky to OS last spring I'm scared. Thanks, Kim
  11. Silver started limping a bit Thursday. I thought it was a pad he had cut 2 days before so took the wait and see approach. Well, his limp is getting worse and I don't think it has anything to do with his pads. I will take him to the vet tomorrow morning. Meanwhile I have a cabinet full of doggie meds (we lost another grey to OS last spring. I'm trying very hard not to think about that now that Silver is limping.) and was wondering if I could give him any of these to make him more comfy until tomorrow morning. I have: Tramadole 50mg discard date 2/11/08; Deramaxx 100mg no discard date but was filled 2/7/07; Robaxin 500mg exp. date 2/10; Rimadyl 75mg exp. date 1/10. Also, can anyone give me advice on the exp. dates - should they be discarded if expired? With human meds I either discard or ask the pharmacist. When I do go to the vet I don't want to buy something I already have. Thanks, Kim

I'm sorry. He was very handsome. Kim
  13. Welcome to Greytalk! I have family in Roanoke. Good luck with your hound! Kim, Silver and Holly
  14. I'm so sorry you are going through this. We lost our first grey to osteo last year. We had 5 months with her from the time she started limping until we had to let her go (we just did pain management). She was only 5 years old. Enjoy the time you have with your pup. We continued doing all our normal things. I regret that I didn't spoil her more - looking back I think I was in denial. So spoil him a lot, you won't regret that. Focus on each day, not what is to come. I highly recommend Circle of Greys. I got the following quote from someone there and found it helpful ...... Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened. Many hugs, Kim
  15. My vet in SC did NOT require testing every year but my vet here in PA does. My vet in SC was nice about trying to keep costs down. Kim
  16. Batmom, thanks for the input. Soulsmom, the bland diet has been rice and boiled hamburger. Something happened tonight that has me wondering...... Silver (healthy pup) has been whining and following DH and I all evening. He normally does this at meal times. We are thinking it is possible Holly (sick pup) ate his food while he was checking out her food (they eat in their crates but with the doors open). Based on how he behaved this morning it is possible it happened last night as well. We just didn't put 2 and 2 together until this evening So, I need to take another day and make sure Holly isn't eating Silver's food. Once I am clear that she is only eating her food I will take her to the vet if the "D" continues. Thanks again! Kim
  17. Holly had diarhea/runny stools Sunday so I fasted her and then went with a bland diet. Normally when this has happened within a day or 2 she is back to normal. As of this morning she still has runny stools. Should I take her to the vet? Continue with the bland diet awhile longer? Thanks! Kim, Silver and Holly
  18. I am so sorry. I didn't know Trish but it is obvious from all of the posts that she was very special. I wish I could have known her. Prayers and Hugs, Kim
  19. Thanks for the info BlackandBrindle! Kim
  20. We just noticed that Holly has a nickle sized chunk of skin missing from her front leg. There is a little flap of skin remaining but not enough to cover the wound. So, I cleaned it and put a non-stick pad on it for the night. Does this type of injury warrant a vet appt. tomorrow? I'd like to avoid the vet if I can but I don't want her to get an infection or anything. I am assuming that it can't be stapled or stitched. It is pretty wide and of course on her leg the skin is very thin. Normally I would just go to the vet for my own peace of mind but I need to be more money conscious these days. I'm even making my skin kids wait before I just run them to the doctor . Any suggestions? Does this sound like something that can heal on its own or do you think I vet trip is needed? ETA: I've been reading some threads on similar situations and EMT gel has been mentioned - where can I get it and is that its real name or an abreviation? Also, what is the best thing to clean the wound with? I used Hydrogen peroxide which I just read isn't good ( I now remember hearing that a long time ago - I need to get rid of my bottle so I don't forget and use it again.) Thanks! Kim, Silver and Holly
  21. We put a floor fan in front of the crates with the air blowing toward the crates. Seemed to keep the pups plenty cool. This was when we lived in SC and we did this along with the central air that was already on in the house. Kim
  22. I've been meaning to ask the same question! Holly coughs after drinking too. We've only had her since July and I think she has done this since we got her (although I can't say that for sure). One thing I do remember about when we got her is that she spits out a lot of water after drinking. I had to put a large rug around the water bowl (which is raised). Kim, Silver and Holly
  23. I'm so sorry. How devastating. Hugs and prayers to Blue's family. He was a nice dog. Kim, Silver and Holly
