  1. Godspeed Dowland, who points the way by sunbeam.
  2. Well, after having a good cry and then getting past the feelings that I would like to have a heart to heart "talk" with the adopters (at which time I would try very hard not to get physical), I agree with Batmom. Skin scraping first to eliminate any infections, etc. Stool sample to vet to rule out any worms. Blood test to eliminate any tick borne disease problems. Stabilize with a good food and wait at least a month to determine if weight is put on. Then a thyroid panel is appropriate. The next order of business is to make sure that anyone who adopts this dog will give him the home he deserves for the rest of his life. No second opinions on this one. Thanks for caring; you deserve a pat on the back.

    G Man

Home is where the heart is. If he was loved by those who cared for him and he was happy where he was, he had what he needed. HOME is not always in a house. HOME is where an animal is loved and cared for and respected. I define "home" as what each dog is getting from the humans around him/her. God speed dear boy knowing that you were loved by some human who smiled at you each day. You and only you know.
  4. f_yellow So very sorry for your loss.
  5. Love and live each moment at a time. That is what they are trying to teach us. They know. Say goodbye, be with him and then go. He lives in the moment. He only needs you with him in that last moment. Then you can go knowing that you were there with him when he needed you. You WILL see him again when he meets you at the bridge.
  6. They live in the moment...... his last moments were with someone who loved him enough to spend all night holding him and then being with him in the end. Bless you for spending your time helping him cross the bridge. He is waiting for you.
  7. I agree totally!!!! Report this to Animal Control! Lots of communities in Maryland are in the 21st century when it comes to dealing with this type of situation!
  8. Our Ajay dislocated his two inside toes on his left front foot Sunday! They also continued to go back out of place after pulling them back in place. Our vet x-rayed the foot (just to confirm that nothing was broken) and we were told to keep him off it as much as possible (to keep the toes in place) until the swelling goes down. Then we can wrapped the two toes together and tape them to the two good toes. Maybe a trip to the vet wouldn't hurt if the swelling doesn't go down just to make sure there are no breaks. I'll be hoping for the best for Nelya and I sure know what you are going through! Good luck!
  9. We've been using Fresh Factors for years for all six of our hounds. We love the product! It is worth every penny we spend. And they do have awesome sales and very fast shipping! You can't go wrong on this one.
  10. Not to alarm you, but you may need to look into a possible tick borne disease. Ehrlichiosis will cause bleeding and nose bleeds are a possibility. It only takes a blood test to diagnose it. We lost a greyhound to Ehrlichiosis and this was one of the symptoms.
  11. Run free sweet boy, knowing that you were greatly loved.
  12. We buy the same product in powder form. We had our local feed store order several cases of it (at a discount for ordering in bulk). Each box has three packets that are given once each day for three days. We treat once then repeat it in two weeks. This does not get rid of both types of tape worms so we order Praziquantal from Austrailia (Pets-Mega-Store) and use that to make sure both types of tape worms are gone. This seems to work really well and not cost a lot.
  13. This is really common and we treat it by leaving it alone. It develops when then they recline in dirt, etc and it collects in that spot because that is where their chest rests on the floor/ground. Over time it will "clean up." It's nothing to worry about. Just being in a carpeted area will help remove a lot when they rub the area when they recline (just the natural movement).
  14. Welcome! You are working with a really great group. They are awesome people whom we love working with. Low key, care about dogs, do the right thing. Lots of luck and we know that you will get a great hound!
  15. Just know that no matter what happens, she is greatly loved and she knows it. She is in the moment and I'm sure she is contented. Please take comfort in the fact that what she needs she is getting - your tender sweet love. We should all be so lucky. My prayers are with you.
  16. So sorry for your loss. Words cannot speak to your pain but I'm sure she knew that she was greatly loved. Godspeed little one.
  17. I read your tribute to your grandfather (and cried) and it could have been me writing the same thing about my grandfather. My grandfather was my hero. He taught me to love gardening, animals, to be kind to people no matter what they did to me (I've since sometimes questioned this advice), and he was truly a generous loving soul. I know how you feel and aren't we fortunate to have had someone in our lives that gave us so much. The day that my grandfather died, I received a letter from him in my mailbox (he lived in Florida the last few months of his life but we always communicated) describing his garden and what it looked like and what he intened to do. We are both very lucky people to have had such wonderful grandfathers. I'm sure he was very proud of you.
  18. This is why I admire nurses. I could NEVER be trusted with meds. I have been known to give the wrong pills to hounds. Thus, my cabinet is full of peroxide and I keep an extra pair of glasses handly everywhere I go!
  19. Fate brought you all together. She was as lucky to have found you as you were to have shared your lives with her. Godspeed sweet girl.

    Wally Is Gone

So sorry to hear about this and can only imagine how devastated you are. Godspeed sweet Wally.
  21. I'd also try to keep him from eating grass. Some dogs have an adverse reaction to it (upset stomach, bloody diarrhea). You can put a stool cup in a muzzle or just cover a muzzle with duct tape. Try it for awhile and see if it makes a difference.
  22. So sorry for your loss. "It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog that comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."~Unknown
  23. You did the right thing. It is hard to let them go. Take comfort in the fact that he was happy with you and you gave him so much. Godspeed sweet hound.
