  1. Poor baby. I hope all goes well, she heals fine and finds that forever home!
  2. So very sorry for the losses you have experienced. After being in greyhound adoption many years, I've come to the conclusion that people like you are special and the dogs somehow make their way to you. I've met many people who would never have it in them to love and care for a dog like you have. Each one came to you and both were better for it. Just think about how much you gave to them and what the world would have been like for you had they not been with you. Just remember, to the world you are just one person, but to each greyhound you were the world.
  3. UPDATE! Thanks to everyone on GT who kept Jack and Baby in your thoughts today! Both are home and resting. Baby is not feeling well and Jack is downright upset! But the wonderful (and unexpected) news is that both dogs only lost ten teeth each!!!!! The black tartar was so thick on their teeth that they looked rotten but once it was removed, some of the teeth could be saved. This is wonderful for both of them as now as they start to feel better, they will be able to eat normally. Thanks again to everyone who cares about these wonderful hounds. Even the vet was so happy today---and we are thrilled. Continue those good thoughts and then let's hope for that special person to come along who will give these sweet dogs their forever home!
  4. Our group took in Jack (a ten year old male) and Baby (an eleven year old female) when another group got overwhelmed with returns. Both dogs were turned in together by their adopter because of a divorce. They are both the most wonderful dogs! But they are going in for dentals today and it is certain that Baby will lose all of her teeth and Jack may end up with a few left. Our vet told us that Baby has the worst looking mouth that she has ever seen in a dog. Jack's mouth isn't that much better. Both dogs were three years behind on vet care but they have had senior blood panels and all necessary vet work done. Blood panels came out OK except that Jack is now being treated for lyme disease and Baby has a yeast infection in both ears. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers today that they come through this ordeal and get well. Once their bad teeth are out and all goes OK, they should really start enjoying life and we pray that they will find a wonderful home together as they are definitely bonded. Here's Jack: Baby:
  5. We've gone through the same experience three times. We've learned through each dog we lost that each day is most precious. Take each moment and make it special for Tarmac and it will be special for you as well. In the end, although it will hurt, you will be better for it. Tarmac will let you know when it's time. In the meantime, make every moment count. Hugs.
  6. :f_red So sorry for your loss. Run free sweet boy knowing that you were greatly loved.
  7. Agree with Batmom.........The worst part also is the outright audacity of someone who clearly was in the wrong to turn it around to make something out to be your fault! I used to allow these types of people to win but now it's fighting words! Make them pay and take responsibility.
  8. Was so hoping that the news would be better. But it's good (if good can come of this) that he found his way to loving people long enough to know that they do exist. Run free sweet boy forever whole.
  9. There are special people in this world who give so much and do what it takes. People like you make this world a better place. It's what keeps the rest of us going. Thank you for giving Thane the home he needed. Sometimes I think that these hounds are sent to those who have the ability to know what it takes to give them what they need. Godspeed Thane.
  10. Run free sweet little girl. So sorry for your loss.
  11. Hope Sherri feels back to normal soon!! She is one of our favorites!!!

I always try to turn a bad thing into something good. For your grand children's sake (and as an example to them), you might want to show them how to change what is bad into something good. Perhaps you can check the local ordinances regarding leash laws etc. and testify at a public meeting to have the laws changed or enforced. Take that beautiful photo and have it framed in a large size so that everyone listening to you can see what you lost. Do this as a tribute to Shayla. Also, consider what Fargosmom offered as a suggestion. Too many people allow these tragedies to happen and not do anything about it. Please consider what good you can do out of this loss.

:f_red A senseless tragedy. So very sorry for your loss.
  14. Jane, thank you for being there for Tattoo. You are one of those special people who step up to the plate and will do what you have to do to make sure that Tattoo has someone in his life when needed most. No matter what happens, he will have had the love and care of those who know how important the life of one dog is. My prayers are for Tattoo and all who care enough to give him the love and care he deserves.
  15. Thank you for being there for her. She was lucky to have you. Godspeed sweet girl.

  19. It has almost been two weeks since Kenny went on to the Rainbow Bridge. Part of Kenny’s story was in another thread here. I was too devastated to write anything and for awhile thought about just moving on. But as time went by, I thought that it wasn’t fair to Kenny if I didn’t pay him a proper tribute. I want this thread to be a celebration of Kenny’s life as no dog deserves it more (at least that’s my opinion!): Kenny, you came into our lives and your stay was too short. You weren’t even here for two weeks when we lost you. We knew when we saw your photograph that we wanted to bring you to our home and give you all the love we had to give while you were alive. We love the senior dogs and especially the black ones! We’ve had our share of them and some are waiting at the bridge. We knew that adopting a senior dog (and one with few teeth) had its down sides. We also knew that there was always the possibility that you would not last long. But we were ready to do what we had to do to give you the best time left in your life. We had no idea that the time with you would be so short. But we have no regrets. You brought so much to us in just the little time we had with you. A gentleness, understanding, sweet but independent nature; you were so good no matter how badly you must have felt. Based on the little we know about your past, we can only imagine the energy you must have had as a puppy. Just watching that tail moving the minute someone looked at you tells us that you were a friendly and outgoing hound. And, from what we can tell, you were not afraid of anything. You certainly had us standing in amazement when you tried climbing the hill outside our door even though you could barely walk. I think if we had not stopped you, you might have made it to the top. From what we can tell, you never raced. But someone must have cared enough about you to find you a home. You made it to the ripe old age of eleven so someone must have cared enough to take reasonable care of you. And someone cared enough to get you to us. In some respects, you showed us that “Yes I Can” is spelled “KENNY.” Now that we are over the anger, sadness, worry, and terrible cutting grief of losing you the way you had to go, we can now feel blessed that you touched our lives. So many people look at the length of time they have had a friend or colleague or how long they have worked somewhere or been around family. But you are testimony to the fact that some come into our lives for a very short time and have the most profound affect on our lives. You did that here. Rest in sweet peace good buddy until we meet again. Look for the others at the bridge. Your family Greyhounds Cassie, Ajay, Rowan, Yukon, and Teddy Lurcher Otto Bridge hounds Valentino, Ford, Craiger, and Apache
  20. So very sorry to hear this news. That poor sweet animal. Thanks to those who cared enough to try to save him and all those who extended the hand of kindness when he needed it the most. Rest in peace gentle soul.
  21. I SO Understand what you are going through and so sorry that you have to deal with this. Just know that you have lots of good thoughts coming your way from here.
  22. Only those of us who have been where you are can understand your pain. I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Run free sweet hound.
  23. What a sweet baby girl.....so sorry for your loss.
