Jessie Came Home Today

We collected Jessie's ashes from the vets today. I carried her home on my knee in the car and then we put her next to Del, on a special shelf in our living room. Her casket is similar to Del's (dark brown wood) but slightly smaller than his and there is a small brass plaque attached which has her name, her dates and the message which I picked "Munching Meerrily at The Bridge")

The crematorium that my vet uses is really nice. When the casket comes back, there is a lovely card in a sealed enevlope and the card says which date the cremation took place, has the pets name on etc and it says that they offer you their condolences. There is also a small bunch of dried flowers which comes with the card. We've put the card and the flowers on top of the casket (as we did with Del's).

Its nice that they are with us, side by side, in the heart of our home.

I know the stuff in those caskets is not 'them' because 'them' is what we carry around with us in our hearts.

Play nicely you two at the Bridge whilst you wait for us. Send us a message now and then if you have time inbetween your playing with stuffies and munching merrily.

How thoughtful of the crematorium to add the card and flowers. I think you feel a little better having them home and placing them next to their siblings, but it's still a very hard time. Ours are together in the garden at our summer home....
