Newly adopted Greyhound screaming for 20 seconds then absolutely fine!

Hi, was wondering if anyone had a similar experience as us.  We have just adopted a 4 year old gorgeous boy (after fostering for 6 months)

Nearly every day he starts screaming really loudly, sort of cycling his leg slowly and then and holds his front right paw up for about 20 seconds then he’s absolutely fine.  We massage his leg and get him to walk around, it’s usually when he’s been lying down in the evening.

We’ve had X-rays and he’s seen a brilliant osteopath who couldn’t find anything wrong and suggested cramp, we’ve been putting a bit of bicarbonate in his food but it’s no better.

Has anyone had any joy with any remedies for this? It absolutely makes us jump out of our skin!

thanks in advance 😁

The GSOD - Greyhound Scream of Death.

Could be cramps or the leg being asleep. Some of these dogs are real drama queens over little things, and some will stand there with a broken leg and not make a sound. I know that's not much help, but I think we've all been through at least one GSOD that seemed to happen for no reason over the years. It will scare the life out of you.  If it continues, I would think about seeing an orthopedic vet specialist just to be safe. Also check the paw pads if this is happening as he stands up.

Likely a cramp. Or ‘pins and needles’.  Or he love his massages…..

My wimpy Galgo gave a GSOD at the retirement home that we visit.  Scared the bejeezus out of everyone.
Seems his leash was dragging on the ground and touching his hock  :D
