2greyhoundMINI
Well sadly we found out our little Carmen has an old fracture by her ankle that was never properly cared for (might be why she never made it to the track). We are taking her to an orthopedist next week to see what needs to be done. She's been limping lately so I know it's bothering her. Wish us luck! Remolacha
Conner had an old injury that didn’t heal well (although it was treated) It gave him a wonky foot, but he never let that slow him down I did find later in life that the wonky foot threw his gait off, and gave him a limp on his left shoulder (foot was the back right) Regular visits to the chiropractor helped a lot. good luck Carmen! 2greyhoundMINI
She moves when tearing around the yard but walking she tends to favor the leg. Sometimes she will hold it up. Preliminary xrays showed a piece of the bone separated. It may need to be removed at this point. I will keep you all posted! Appt isn’t until next Wednesday. 2greyhoundMINI
I have pretty good news to report... Definitely NOT cancer (thank goodness). And no old fracture/break. There was some sort of trauma in the past which has caused some extra bone growth (spurring) which is causing the inflammation and discomfort. Ultimately this is basically arthritis. It can be managed moving forward. So our little Carmen went on a round of antibiotics to be safe since she licked the area raw, and a week of anti-inflammatories. Once we get it to settle down, hopefully it's a treat "as-needed" issue. Funny note: we also brought Amelia with us as her "support dog". The techs all commented on how friendly and happy they seemed the whole time LOL Quote Greyhounds: Amelia (Cataloosahatchee 9.10.17) & Carmen (Rebellious Bird 8.23.17) Kitty: Biggi Paws (7.4.13) Horse: WC Kharena (2.28.17) Rainbow Bridge: Raider Kitty (4.1.01 - 8.12.21), Sidney (Kane's Seminole 11.14.08 - 9.26.19 ), June (Potrs June 6.1.09 - 3.1.19) Bella the Rottweiler, Kitties: Spike, DC, Gilda, Killer, Sophie & Nala

Poor Carmen for having the discomfort. Wishing her all the best for the management long-term and recovery of the raw skin. Carmen and Amelia sound just like our two girls. We recently had an emergency vet visit on a Sunday night- during a play date, a friend's dog bit and tore skin on our girl, Nox. We were there until 2am with both dogs, obviously. A long time to wait due to other emergencies, but the techs had the most fun coming into our room (to update us on wait time) and both dogs went crazy tail-wagging, giving kisses, wanting to play. Other than poor Nox getting 6 stitches, it was a positive experience!

I'm very relieved we don't have a surgery for repairs and a possible long recovery. Yes it sucks she has arthritis, but her only job now is getting on the couch so hopefully she will be fine Quote Greyhounds: Amelia (Cataloosahatchee 9.10.17) & Carmen (Rebellious Bird 8.23.17) Kitty: Biggi Paws (7.4.13) Horse: WC Kharena (2.28.17) Rainbow Bridge: Raider Kitty (4.1.01 - 8.12.21), Sidney (Kane's Seminole 11.14.08 - 9.26.19 ), June (Potrs June 6.1.09 - 3.1.19) Bella the Rottweiler, Kitties: Spike, DC, Gilda, Killer, Sophie & Nala
palmettobug
A good warm place to lay is just the ticket! I have to take them both, G would destroy the house without his beloved Fuzzy. He lays his head on her back all the time. He fusses and worries when they take her to the back. And yes, they are both SO EXCITED to see everyone, kisses and noses all around. 2greyhoundMINI
Good news! Since Carmen started the anti-inflammatories her ankle has made good progress... She's not limping as near as much and since it's not bothering her too much she's stopped licking it which has allowed the raw skin around it to heal! She will only be on the anti-inflammatories a few more days. Hopefully this time has given it time to do some healing and we won't need them for a while.
