What Should I do if my grey tries to bite

You might get more replies if you post in the "Training and Behavior" forum, but yes, the short answer is to give her space and make sure the children know not to ever approach her on her bed. Is she sleep startling (they do doze with open eyes sometimes, so it can be hard to tell) or resource guarding her bed? Some dogs outgrow these kinds of behaviors, and some don't. My girl has been with us 7 years and still has sleep startle, so we leave her alone when she's on her bed.

How long have you been fostering her? It sounds like she might need to go to another foster home without young kids. The last thing you want is for anyone to get hurt, and if the dog ends up biting someone she's then got a history that will make it harder to place her. Best of luck! She's beautiful.

Sheba still has sleep startle and space issues after 11 years. Everyone of my friends and family knows to leave her alone when she's on her beds. Leave your foster hound alone when she's on her bed. Get her to another foster home if necessary if boundaries can't be controlled.

Please contact your group to move her to a safer foster situation.  And with the next one, talk with your kids about respecting the dog's space and not bothering them on their bed or anywhwere they are laying down.  Any child under 5 or six should never be left unsupervised with any dog.  And the dog should always be called over to the child by an adult for any petting/attention by the child.

That being said, some dogs just don't do well with younger children.  Not your fault, not the kids fault, it just is what the dog is comfortable dealing with.  I've had two greyhounds who would literally run away from any kids they saw.  Most are OK with them, but this one you have may not be one of those.

You have received excellent advice.

This dog has never lived in a home before and has never had to share her personal space with humans.

Please donot disturb her while she on her bed.

She may have never encountered small children. Your children need to learn to respect her personal space.

You need to teach your children to avoid her while she is laying down.

Call your group coordinator and have them rehome this dog to a more experienced home.
