thanks for the hugs, it's so strange non of the dogs in his lineage have had cancer of any type what so ever- even as old old dogs. where did this come from? the vet thought possible trauma at one time that affected his immune system. he did have a really bad staph infection to his upper eye lid. it took 6 weeks to clear up! and the upper lid has so many glands the optho was worried since it can lead to a chronic condition. he was on predisone for 2 weeks while treating that.i don't know his past prior to adopting him. it can also just be the luck of the draw.

he's been on 40 mg predisone daily since wed. night and glands are going down. once they recede totally then depending upon the quality of life at that point i might go for a shot of Elspar. A chemo drug w/ few side effects. Yes, there is a free clinical study just an hour away, he qualifies but whippets are even more sensitive to drugs than greyhounds. i can't see putting him thru any discomfort to keep him by our side for some additional time and there haven't been any sighthounds in the study.  as pam has posted about the speed of lymphoma- it's fast.
