Guest Lyra
So we brought home Harley (formerly Garr) today. He's doing really well so far, just a little restless while he's figuring this house thing out. He took to going up the stairs like he's been doing it forever, but I've been having to teach him how to go down at a steady pace so he doesn't fall. Gravity hasn't caught up with him yet, but if he keeps trying to jump 3 stairs at a time it will!! He's definitely curious, so we are going to be working on the jumping and counter-surfing. He seems to be catching on fast though, so we hope he will settle in quickly.

Guest Lyra
He's had a long day today, I'm hoping he will sleep though the night. He's just dozed for a few minutes at a time, probably from the stress of a new home. He's currently passed out on my bed. Not sure where I'll end up sleeping if he stays there! EllenEveBaz
How are things going? He's currently passed out on my bed. Not sure where I'll end up sleeping if he stays there! Isn't there a nice, brand-new dog bed on the floor you can curl up on? Guest Lyra
I feel like we got really lucky with him, he's really a good dog. He's not noise sensitive, he's not afraid of anything (so far) and is really just a relaxed dog. It really is amazing, he is the best behaved dog and is a fast learner. I'm going to give him another week or so, and start taking him to obedience training, really just to work on strengthening the bond between us and some basic communication. We are starting to work on alone time, and when he's resting away from us we go about our day like he isn't there so he doesn't feel like we are constantly checking on him. I can see he has a really strong social desire to be with us, so we are being really careful to not overindulge him with attention so that he becomes needy. He did growl at my mom while he was eating, but I never fault a dog for that. Honestly, if someone made a grab for my food while I was eating I would have something to say about it too! Isn't there a nice, brand-new dog bed on the floor you can curl up on? Yeah, and another one on the way. But he seems to prefer our beds, and likes to roach diagonally so there is no room for anyone else! He has started to learn some bed manners and makes room for me too, now if only he would forget his 4 am risings we would be all set. I'm slowly trying to increase the time he gets up. I've gotten him to 5:30 am for a few days but he relapsed last night. Edited April 4, 2017 by Lyra
