Guest joviemom
Back in December Jovie ended up having to have a toe off because she had a large lump that formed then abscessed on her toe. After the toe was removed they sent it off for testing and everything came back inconclusive. All we knew was that the bone was necrotic and some kind of bacteria caused it. The vet was very sure that she got all of the infection out when she took the toe off. Well this past weekend I took her to the dog park and I noticed that she wasn't really doing a full gallop, more just quickly walking along which is very unusual for her. Then I noticed that she also started limping a little on the same foot she had the toe off of. I checked it out, it looked fine, but we went home anyways. Well two days ago she was zipping around the house then she did the scream of death and I ran over to see what happened, she was limping on her foot a little so I laid her down to get a good look at it. I now see a small lump forming on the inside (would have touched the toe we removed) of her toe. I pressed on it and moved the toe around and she squeaked a little when it was moved. We go back to the vet on Saturday, but I am just so nervous that I am going to go down the same path we were on before. I don't think she could stand to lose another toe either maybe she could, I have never seen a grey with two toes missing from the same foot. IansMom
Ian also had a toe amputated. It didn't bother him after the amp for a couple of years. He has recently started limping from time to time and holding it up as well. We had it xrayed and everything is fine. I hope the same is the case for Jovie. Hugs to you both! CharlieRhea
Sending good thoughts to you and Jovie. Just wondering if antibiotics would help since your Vet said it was caused by a bacteria. Does she know which kind? Just hoping for an easy to fix diagnosis.

silverfish
Before having a second toe off the same foot, I'd go for a specialist referral. Hopefully they can clear this up with heavy-duty antibiotics like clindamycin (one of the antibiotics useful for bone infections) before they start thinking of doing that. Hope she's OK!
