Yamaha_gurl
A domanant male tried to mount Bella while she was laying down. She snarled/growled and turned around on her back, and he stomped on her basically. It was at the baseball diamond playdate, all dogs were muzzled. She was ok right after, didn't limp or whine. In the car she looked almost sad, and she threw up all her dinner later on (which was about 3 hours later). What signs should I look for incase she's hurt internally? She's not panting, not limping, not pacing, gums are a good color...should I be worried? He weight about 90 lbs, and from where I was it looked him he was just juming on her, trying to bite her Edited December 19, 2010 by Yamaha_gurl Quote Greyhound Collars : www.collartown.ca Maggie (the human servant), with Miss Bella, racing name "A Star Blackieto"
Guest Energy11
ONE, I am sorry Bella is going thru this. Two, I do NOT agree with these open "playdate things ... " just too dangerous! There was something like this in Florida last week, and a good friend of mine's hound got a broken leg! Yes, at that weight, the male could have caused some internal damage. The vomiting could also just be from fear/trauma. I 'd watch her, and IF the vomiting continues, pale gums, or other strange behavior continues, I'd see the vet asap. Sending you lots of hugs and prayers! p.s. signs? vomiting, pacing, panting, AND MOSTLY PALE WHITE GUMS....ALSO GENERAL WEAKNESS. Guest DarkHorse
Keep an eye on her belly for bruises as well, especially if she doesn't seem to react to you touching them. They might be signs of internal bleeding. If she's overly shaky or yelps if you touch her belly/sides, I'd keep a really close eye on her as well. Araley's been stepped on by Dexter a few times, though never intentionally or with much force. He's only 70lbs, but he's still never done any real damage. If the step was a glancing blow, Bella should hopefully be fine. I would try to make sure that she doesn't come into contact with the boy for a little bit so that she doesn't end up associating him with the pain he caused (and hopefully he can be trained in the meantime). If she's still sore and he even bumps into her, she might decide that he's just bad news.
Guest avadogner
I hope Bella feels better and everything is OK. Keep on eye out for any swelling, reddness, bruising, or bulging areas on her abdomen. Gently palpate (feel for unusual masses or bulging) her abdomen. 90 lbs is big dog but her rib bones should be ok and have protected her lungs and most her organs. If she was bleeding in her GI area, you would see swelling, bruising and guarding of the area when you try to touch it. You know her best so if she has any changes in her condition get her checked out ASAP. Energy11 is right to tell you to look at her gums. Blood loss will cause them go gradually become very pale too. I hope she's just stressed from the unwelcome amourous attention and accidental injury. Get better Bella! -ava and augie's mum
silverfish
Possibly I can be overcautious, but I'd get her checked. Ribs won't protect internal organs if a dog is on her back, and with her looking 'sad' and vomiting .. well, the 'sad' could be from bruising and shock, and the vomiting could be coincidence, but I'd want to be safe. As well as her gums and 'guarding', check for blood in her urine in case one of her kidneys got bruising. Also 'tucking' of the belly (which will make her head low and her spine arch) and signs that she is in pain or discomfort. Hope she's OK!!
