gryhndsr4us
My "little old lady" Gypsy fell coming down the stairs this morning. She has stumbled a few times in the last few weeks also. She has been in for her senior check up recently and we know she is getting weak in the hind end. Gypsy also has arthritis and is on meloxicam for that. She will be 13 on Saturday. Fortunately other than scaring the heck out of both Gypsy and I she seems to be ok. I have a plush fleece line collar I can use to assist her, but I think a harness would be better. She really only goes upstairs at bedtime now, she doesn't go up just to follow anymore. Any suggestions for a comfortable harness? Guest Greytluv
Gypsy Carol Becker of God's Greyts makes them. I love them. And everything goes to the dogs Here's a write up on them from Cara on Northcoast Greyhounds Edited July 8, 2010 by Greytluv
mychip1
In the meantime, until you get the harness, you can always take a very large towel and loop it under her stomach and use it almost as a sling to help her down the stairs....it's not ideal, but until you have a harness, you don't want to take any changes!! Good luck. GreyPoopon
Another option, the Ruffwear Webmaster. I used one for Cora after her broken leg, FCE, and in her last few weeks of OS. FiveRoooooers
Gypsy In the meantime, ditto the towel, or a sweatshirt, which I find easier to manage. Quote Old Dogs are the Best Dogs. Meandmy
I ordered the assistance harness from North Coast Greyhounds when my Shadow was having issues and it worked greyt! It was really, really soft and he could wear it comfortably all day if/when he was having difficulties. gryhndsr4us
Thank you everyone. I heard back from Carol and Gypsy's harness is being made. Gypsy is feeling better and with the lower humidity silly and spunky today. She was scared to come down the stairs this morning. But with some assistance she made it. brandimom
Thank you for starting this thread. I just sent an email to Carol also. My Brandi, age 9.5, has weak hind legs too and sometimes falls and can't get up by herself. As Fiveroooers suggested the sweat shirt works but now I need something to keep on her all the time My "little old lady" Gypsy fell coming down the stairs this morning.
