greytluck Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Wally was playing with a stuffie today and Corinna (home 3 days) got excited and decided to mount Wally. Wally told her what's what and she didn't try it again but what's that about? Is it dominance, trying to find the pecking order or just simply some residual hormones since she was spayed less then a month ago. I guess it really doesn't matter, but I'm just curious. Guest Swifthounds Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 It was probably just some excitement. Despite the common conclusion that mounting is a dominance behavior, often it's just an outlet for other kinds of excitement. If she continues to do it despite his reprimand, then its a different issue. Poor guy probably wishes you got him a brother though...girls are so weird. Quote
greyhndz Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 It's just dominance. WARNING: Graphic (but hysterical) photo to follow: This was taken back in the mid 90's. The lady (well, maybe not a lady after all) on top is my Robyn. The gentleman with the mystified expression was foster Rico. Robbie was always the "bottom of the pack" girl, and this was the first time she discovered that someone was actually below her (literally ). So, no doggie nookie going on here -- just a little power trip. Quote

fourofem Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Lizzie, my foster failure, used to "mount" Homey, my pitbull mix, all of the time. It was an every day occurence!!! Back then, when it was just Stel, Lizzie, Homey and I we all used to sleep together. The night I woke up and found Lizzie humping Homey on my bed took care of that!!! He was very tolerant of it...not sure why. If he was annoyed, he would just walk away...never snapped or got ugly about it. He's been gone for a while now and she's never tried that with any of the male hounds that have arrived since. Either she loved him very much or was trying to send Stel and I a message that she was Miss Dominant. sobesmom Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Not a big deal. Don't read too much into it. Sometimes it can be dominant behavior - but generally, it's just an outlet for excitement. It'll probably stop soon. Honestly - I've seen more females do it than males among spayed/neutered greys. Quote
Guest FastDogsOwnMe Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I snapped this yesterday. Both are girls Quote
GreyPoopon Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I snapped this yesterday. Both are girls I can't figure out if the recipient is enjoying herself or asking you for help. For a while after she arrived, Tally did that occasionally, mostly to Cora. I discouraged it (I discourage most inter-dog play in the house--it's too small!), and eventually she stopped trying.
