You Had Me At Halo

I think one of the greatest gifts we can give our beloved companions is freedom from pain & suffering. I think one of the greatest gifts they give us is unconditional love. They don't care what mood we're in, just as long as they get a chance for us to look their way.

Halo came to live with me exactly 2 months ago yesterday, July 24th. On that Sunday May 24th, when Judy & Mike drove up with Halo & Lenny, little did I know that down the road I would have to say goodbye.

Halo went from a quiet, reserved, distant, somewhat different greyhound to a comical, barky, loveable clown. He loved sleeping on the bed, but didn't want anyone touching him. He learned to share a doggie bed, even though most of the time he slept only on half of it. His favorite place to sleep was in my bedroom on a futon pad. He shared it most nights with Jack.

When Halo barked, I jumped. If he barked, whatever hour of the night it was, I got up & let him outside. You didn't hesitate, you moved. He actually barked orders.

In the 2 months Halo was here with me, he learned he was truly loved. He stopped having seizures every 22 days because he was only on 1 medication. He started taking an additional medication and on Thursday he was 41 days seizure free.

On Friday, he crossed the bridge. The seizures had taken over the whole day. Life was not fun anymore. Where Halo is, prescriptions are not allowed. There is only happiness, no sickness, no hate, no indifference. I smile when I think the 2 months he spent here was just a preview of his time in heaven. The only difference is I'm not there yet.

I miss my ole sweet boy. :beatheart You had me at Halo.

My friend, here we are again, all too soon. And why now with Halo, who had just come to know what true love and respect was really all about.

You stepped up to the plate when no one else would, stepped up to the plate for a boy who needed you so very badly. And I truly believe you needed him as well.

How many times is the heart broken and how many times can it heal. I think you are about to show us all what that answer is.

And Halo, beautiful gentle Halo, you have left more broken hearts behind than I bet you even knew about.

You became part of many of us. I believe that you are now young once again, no more sickness and you are running free and happy, in the company of all the Angels who have gone before you.

I don't think you give any thought to what you have left behind Halo, but should you ever for a minute think about that, I hope to God what comes to mind is your last 2 months

God speed my friend, and run now and be happy. Give our Angels a kiss from all of us and please Halo, watch over your mom and the rest of us who loved you.

So true and I also believe you gave Halo another wonderful gift, the love and confidence for him to be the greyhound you both knew he could be, a comical, barky, loveable clown!

I'm so sorry that your time together was so short.

I am soooo very sorry, Hilda!!!! Bless you for making this sweetie's last months wonderful!!

My heart just sunk when I saw the name and the part of the forum it was in.

Run free and happy, Halo. Thank you for making us all notice that greyhounds and their people are pretty excellent.

Very well said. He touched so many lives in the short time he had his true momma. I can't believe the short time he was here but he must have been called to the Bridge for a much more needed job. There have been many to go before him and there will be more to go after him. The only thing we can do is love them while they are here.

Sweet Halo, you saw heaven on earth in the last two months. Godspeed my sweet friend.

Hilda,

I am so very sorry for your loss. The only consolation I can find in this, is that Halo knew your total unconditional love, for the last 2 months of his life he finally had the home he so deserved.

Run with the angels sweet Halo you go on the wings of love -

Oh Hilda, I will never forget the day I sent you a message and asked if you could help Halo, without hesitation you said yes, he could come and live with you. That ride back from Nashville that day I told him he was going to a wonderful home, where his new mom would do everything to stop those awful seizures, and you did. On that ride to you he discovered the joys of french fries and hamburgers, his eyes were bright and I knew you were going to fall instantly in love, and you did.

For two months, he knew the absolute joy of being loved and cherished, I only wish it could have been longer. He deserved longer with you. I know how heartbroken you are right now and I hope the memories you made with Halo help you to heal. Thank you so much for giving him a chance when no one else would.

Godspeed sweet Halo, you have left behind so many broken hearts, your mom's being the biggest.
