Guest Chanda
I post a little while ago asking about the average age for a hound to get cancer and learned that my beautiful girl was definitely on the young side. She was 5, all black and beautiful. She raced in Mexico. She ran wild and free on our 40 acre vineyard. She chased rabbits. She ran on the beach. She walked in the 'Big Dog' parade. She slept on many many soft comfortable things. She was loved by all. She played with her hound brothers. She lived an incredible 3 years with us. I found out two weeks ago that she 'might' have bone cancer in her upper shoulder. I was convinced it MUST be something else. The vet told me it was too late and there was nothing that could be done at this point so I held onto the belief that she just injured her shoulder and that it wasn't cancer. I had an appointment today to have her re-x-rayed to try and confirm that it was cancer but I guess she didn't want to wait. Yesterday she was just a super sweet limping hound that was doing OK. Yesterday evening she caught her bad leg in the couch and twisted it. She screamed in pain, swelled up like a boulder. I was so worried. The vet met us at her clinic at about 9pm about half an hour after it happened. We x-rayed to try and confirm. It was definitely cancer and it was worse. All of the tissue surrounding that shoulder wasn't working properly and had torn apart when she twisted her leg. There was nothing that could be done. I wasn't ready to lose her but she was in so much pain. We drugged her up so she was relaxed and gave her as much love as we could squeeze in. Told her she was the best hound ever and put her to sleep. I am in such shock. She was so young and such an incredible athlete. So loving and sweet. Just the perfect hound. I can't believe she is gone. Please send good thoughts for Trillian running pain free in heaven.

Guest Chanda
Thanks everyone. I am just beside myself with grief. I just fed the remaining hounds dinner and her space seems so big and empty. I can't believe that she was here yesterday and looking good and suddenly gone today. So empty. So sudden.
