Guest makenna25
Well, the tests are back and our sweet Cairo has a type of Lymphosarcoma. It is in his spleen and most likely his bone marrow. We have some questions for the vet, but it doesn't look good. Little Cairo isn't well, and he is quite miserable. All his muscles are deteriorating, I can see through his skin (looks purple and white under his back legs), he is wabbly, not much of an appetite... He just isn't our happy boy. We hope maybe some steroids will give him a boost, but we want to make sure we aren't prolonging the suffering. It's so, so hard, and we are looking into all our options, but need to choose what's best for our boy. We are so heart broken, but wouldn't trade one minute with him! So, I guess that's all for now. We have given him the best life we could, and will continue to do so, as long as we can. Thanks for all your support and I will keep you all updated. duncan41
I am so sorry. What a rotten diagnosis. Having "been there", I would try the steroids - we were gifted with an extra 2 months with Nikki on Pred alone. If the steroid works, make lots of great memories, spoil him rotten and love him 'til it hurts. We will hold you closely in our hearts. Sending comforting thoughts and prayers. Guest makenna25
Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement! The steroids have pepped Cairo up a bit and have made him a little more interested in eating, although what dog wouldn't want a chuck roast?! I am taking pictures every day (I will post some soon)! We are taking the advice of duncan41 "make lots of great memories, spoil him rotten and love him 'til it hurts." We are cherishing each moment! Fortunately it is going to be pretty warm this weekend so we should be able to take a few walks and enjoy outside a little. I will keep you all posted, and go hug your grey!!!! PrairieProf
I'm glad Cairo is feeling peppier today. You guys have been in my thoughts a lot -- he is so young and I feel so bad for you with this diagnosis. When my cat Quinn was diagnosed with cancer last May, I took pictures of him almost every day through the summer. I got a lot of great shots, and I'm so glad I have them now.
