  2. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed.
  3. FWIW, Edie limps on her corn-y foot despite regular hulling. I know it's the corn because she's much better on soft surfaces like grass or fresh snow. I use a regular dog boot--not as good as a Thera-Paw, but good enough except when the corn needs to be hulled again. She's on pain meds (she has arthritis in the shoulder on the same leg), but they don't seem to help with the corn pain.
  4. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Archie.

  6. that Bella is showing some improvements.
  7. Their sensitivities can change over time. Edie used to be able to eat beef. Now she can't. Cal doesn't do beef either. Every other grey I've had has been OK. So far.
  8. I'm so very sorry. He sure was special. And handsome. Godspeed Blitz.

  12. Oh no! I was so hoping that you would have more time with him. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Phene.
  13. We've used the stick method. Also 90 degree turns (get dog in sit position, tell them to wait, pivot 90 degrees, tell them to "get in" again). Practice both directions. Also, sometimes take a step forward as well (it's usually easier to start this way, then shorten the step). Another technique that I don't think has been mentioned: hold the leash in your right hand, but put it behind your legs rather than in front. When you turn, apply gentle pressure. We haven't used this one much lately but it's a lot of fun: Leave the dog in a wait. Start walking briskly in a circle to the left (I like to start with a large circle). When you're about a quarter of the way around, tell the dog to "get in" or heel so that it has to catch up and bend into position. We also tend to start with exaggerated shoulder position, but, as Batmom said, w/o looking back at the dog.
  14. Hmmm, this is interesting. I would not have said that Max has allergies, but he does lick his feet a lot. I always thought it was sort of a self-soothing thing. The vet did mention a prednisone might help but he is on metacam for arthritis and can't take it appreantly. We are weaning him off, since he is now on cartrophen shots, that seems to be helping. Wonder if something like Vanectyl would be a possibility? FWIW,Max has been on reactine for 4 nights now, and I don't know if it's helping. He is more cough-y than usual tonight (actually hacked up phlegm which is not normal!) Thanks for the info! Yeah, you can't use Metacam (NSAID) with steroids. I'd stopped using Metacam--which Betsy needed from time to time--a couple of months earlier because she was having bouts of explosive diarrhea. We kept her on Vanectyl-P instead of switching to prednisone because it didn't cause the pred-type drinking/peeing issues.
  15. No advice, just a little story: Betsy (now 12 1/2) tends to huff and puff and sometimes sounds like a freight train--I was sure she was developing LP. She also has had seasonal allergies for the past few summers: she licks her feet until the skin is red and the hair is very thin. The first year, Benadryl helped with the itchies. The second year, Benadryl didn't work but Reactine did. The third year--last summer--neither antihistamine worked, so the vet prescribed a course of Vanectyl-P (a steroid/antihistamine combo). Not only did she stop licking her feet, but she was a whole lot less lame (she has athritis and can no longer take NSAIDS). So we continued the Vanectyl-P. After a while, I noticed that she was breathing better. She still has the occasional bout of raspiness, but it's not as bad as it was. Hugs to handsome Max.

I love that picture, too. It was taken by GT's KelseysLackey. Maybe GreyPoopon's Betsy, whose daddy is Mo Kick, steals cheese and meat and could sent it telepathically No, Betsy learned early on that counter surfing for meals or kitties was not on. She's really more about random screams and temper tantrums. ETA: Oh wait! I forgot: Betsy has caught and carried around the yard (gently) a couple of bunnies. Perhaps she could send one along for Loca to chase.

    Loca

I think of her every time her half-sister Betsy--who is relatively sane--does something bizarre.
