  1. leash walk them out when it's icy.  We have been doing that since last winter when it snowed then melted and turned the entire yard into 3" thick of ice.  Our patio is 20' long from door to where the grass starts and we use ice melter and a large towel from the door to about 4' out.  We also have this HORRENDOUS blaze orange plastic fencing (4' high) that goes around one half of the patio side since they would vault from the grass over the 4' wide rocky area (that is around the patio) and they would go down if they hit the icy cement (the other 1/2 is fenced because that's my garden area and turns out Zeke thinks that's his personal diggy-diggy hole if he can get to it.... :D )

having to walk 2 dogs with a fenced in yard might seem silly, but with Larry being 12 3/4 and Zeke 10 3/4 we just can't risk one of them going down :(

hope you can find something that works.

  2. my heart sank further than I thought it could go when I saw "Lexie" at the forum top. :cry1 :cry1

she was truly one in a BILLION.  Her pictures never ceased to make me smile or be amazed how she could sit with so many treats and goodies -- and hats and costumes -- and be the perfect girl and get her picture taken.

she is loved by thousands and will be very, very missed by us as well :(  but the love and trust that I could see that you two had together was simply incredible and beautiful. :kiss2

    rest well, Lexie. :kiss2

  3. Our Larry turned 12 on 2/24 so he is just past 12.5 right now.  He is having many issues, has LS really bad, is wobbly...there are (most) days he can barely get up off the bed and (a few) days when he is a house pony through the dining room and living room and my smile is side to side :couchjump.    Every day is a gift with him, and his younger brother Zeke who turned 10 on 4/6.  My kitchen cabinet looks like a pharmacy and I feel like a pusher between the two of them every 8 hours, but it keeps them going.

  4. Both of these dogs are now in their crates 20-22 hours a day during the week and 12-16 hours on weekends.

we crate our greys but just very curious, WHY are you crating for 20-22 hours and 12-16 hours???  that is a very, very long time for them to be crated IMO.
