  1. Even though some vets say that my Girls horrible death from Immune Mediated Hemoltic Anemia was not caused by her annuals that were given shortly before she went from fine to dead in 48 hours...that was what the vet listed as cause of death -- vaccine induced IMHA. I still believe that that was the trigger. Hers was a terrible death and if going to a 3 year protocol can reduce the odds, then that is what I've done since with my vets blessing. Lepto has to be every year if you are in a risk zone tho.

  3. What do "5 way" and "4 way" mean? 4 way is DHPP Distemper Hepatitis Parainfluenza Parvo 5 way is DHLPP Distemper Hepatitis Lepto Parainfluenza Parvo
  4. My vet told me last year it was making a rampant comback around here and shots HAD TO HAD TO be 5 way instead of 4 way. Remember, it only lasts a year so take that into account if on 3 year protocal as we are.
  5. Thoughts and prayers for both of you from Texas
  6. They sell it at Walgreens, CVS and WalMart. The prices at Walmart are good. It is a herb that helps liver function.
  7. The certificate has a lot more weight than the tag. The tag is pretty much useless except in tracking down a stray with no other tags. All of my dogs that were done by track vets did not have tags. I wouldn't sweat it at all.
  8. No ticks but fleas = Advantage by a mile All the Adams stuff is really good and all I use except for Advantage as no ticks in this neighborhood. I am almost afraid to say that after our recent cleansing I am sort of growing attached to the smell of the Adams spray.... ...sorta like new car smell
  9. Get some Adams spray and spray bedding, furniture, etc. It works and smells really good. You could also use it on him for the errant flea if you want to wait for the Frontline. Ann is right, if you don't have ticks Advantage works waaayyy better on fleas.
  10. I was thinking of you at work today. We have a little Cav boarding. I took her out, cleaned her perfectly clean cage (good girl!) and helped her back in after playtime. She is such a little sweetheart. Her name is Charlotte.
  11. Thoughts and prayers from here. Run free sweetie.
  12. If you have a hose wet down his paws and belly
  13. Don't know the terminology but when I was growing up we had "red ants" and "sugar ants". The red ants were big and red (natch) and the sugar ants were little and black. Red ant bites would be red and hurt and itch but not fill with liquid. Enter fire ants. Smaller than red ants (probably your army ants) but their bites get filled with liquid and swell up. They say not to pop the bites but I do to let the clear stuff drain out and it heals way quicker.
  14. Oh my goodness Bonnie. Godspeed sweet Pud.
  15. Go to wally world and get a wading pool out there TODAY while you negotiate.
  16. When I worked 10 hour shifts and was gone 11-12 hours I had someone let them out. I would think there are LOTS of adults that can easily go 8-10. Now that there is a dog door I've seen mine hunker down for a VERY (15+ hours) long time, but that is only occasionally. I'd say of their own free will they do not go out and pee anywhere near every 8 hours. Somewhere long ago I read an article that that dogs do not need to pee nearly as often as humans because they only drink when they are truely thirsty and it makes sense. Many humans drink for reasons other than thirst. Caffine and alcohol delivery, being social, habit, etc. So that probably doesn't help and I don't know anything from a medical standpoint, but my guys don not pee every 8 hours of their own free will. May depend on the dog
  17. I usually give one immodium then go with the bland diet. You don't want to give it long term, but can be useful as a little jumpstart. I have never given more than 1 for a first dose and 1/2 for a second.
  18. I have found immodium works best. One pill. Kaopectate used to work great but I think they changed the formula.
  19. 5 pounds is not a magic number -- 5 pounds on an 80# dog is wayyy different than 5 on a 55# dog. Plus kennels run dogs differently. Buck raced at 77-78 and he weighs 89 now. I think anyone that saw him in Abilene would agree he is not overweight. He must have raced as a stick.... I personally would lean more to a 10% increase on bigger dogs than # of pounds, but that too is flawed and one kennel may race dogs lighter than the next.
  20. I was very nervous to give it to Rex as he had some tummy issues, but it was the ONLY thing that gave him any relief. Never any problems here except the cost as he was on 150 mg a day toward the end.
  21. None of mine a gulpers so we do US made retriever rolls or pressed rawhide. I can't find pig ear strips like I used to that are small, so I buy the whole ones and my neighbor cuts them into strips on his band saw. Whole ears are too much fat for me. Mine like the new greenies (more digestable) fine, but they are so expensive they don't get them often. No Nylabones here -- pieces can break off.
  22. Call and check Sam's and Costco. Karen got Arco's meds there for less than Canada. You don't have to be a club member to use the pharmacy. The old ventolin inhalers at Sams were 75% less than at CVS and Walgreens.
