    Deuce

OMG Shelby, I am so so sorry! What a sweet beautiful boy he was! I was just looking at pictures of Louisville tonight and saw one of Deuce and Rosie. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
  8. We lost our beautiful Bailey last week. She was diagnosed with CRF (Chronic Renal Failure) in August 2006 and had been doing well. She was getting fluids, first every other day and then a month ago it was changed to daily. I joined a CRF support group and recently an FAF (feline assisted feeding) support group. Bailey went downhill in just a few days. I took off work most of last week and had got her up to a little more than 5 pounds by syringe feeding... she was eating, just not enough. By Wednesday evening, she would just smell the food, not eat. Thursday she couldn't get up at all and I called the vet and Herman and I took her in at 3:15pm. She had a strange and difficult life before she came to us when she was almost 5. We had Peanut and I mentioned that I would like to get him a kitty companion... even though Peanut thought he was a dog. Herman said no. Well Herman was at Lackland AFB in San Antonio for a few months going through training to be a bomb dog handler so I figured if I did get a cat, it would be settled in before he even got back home. A woman I worked with back in 1995 (Ruth, who is now one of my best friends and went to the Bluegrass and other events with me) mentioned that her friend had a white Persian cat that her daughter found in a dumpster at a highway reststop near Arnold, MO. She said that her friend was looking for a home for her because her house was full. I said I was interested and would name her Bailey... I already had the name picked out! We drove to Ruth's friend Sandy's house one night to meet "Bailey." This was in January 1995. Sandy had several dogs and cats, but Bailey kept to herself and was very shy and withdrawn. Ruth and I took Bailey to my house and she cried the whole way home. Once inside, she and Peanut hissed and made that cat growling sound towards each other. I kept Bailey locked in the spare room and Peanut would sit outside the door and meow in a angry tone. After a few days, I thought this is nuts, Bailey can't live in the spare room the rest of her life! I bought two of those little pearl necklaces with bells for cats... Peanut got black and white and Bailey got pink and white. I figured if I heard the bells ringing, they were fighting. I let Bailey out, they did some sniffing and a bit of low growling and then they were fine! Bailey had a few harmless quirks, would only eat Whiskas dry food and only drink out of the bathtub faucet, but was otherwise she was no problem at all. Herman and his new dog Carlo came home in Feburary 1995... we were at a "President's Day Party" at my brother's house and Herman is telling everyone that I got another cat while he was in Texas. He went on to say that it isn't friendly like Peanut and would only drink from the bathtub faucet. My brother's sister-in-law Josephine said that is funny, she had a cat that would only drink out of the bathtub faucet too. She was a white Persian name Edna. I asked her about Edna and where was she now. She said that she had Edna and her mom, but the mom cat was mean to Edna and they had to separate them. Edna was really her daughter's cat and when she came home from college on break, the daughter found Edna another home. Josephine said that her daughter would go visit Edna on breaks from college, but the last time she went (she had given her to a hairdresser who lived in Arnold, MO)... the friend said that Edna stopped using the litterbox and she got rid of her. By then I was thinking Bailey is Edna!!! We only live 6 blocks from my brother so I drove Josephine over to see Bailey, it was Edna! Now thinking back, I suspect that Josephine's daughter gave Edna to the hairdresser in Arnold, MO and the hairdresser gave Edna to Ruth's friend Sandy's daughter (who brought home dogs and cats all the time) and she just told her mom she found her in a rest stop dumpster so she wouldn't make her take her back. How else would Josephine/hairdresser/Ruth's friend Sandy all know that she would only eat Whiskas dry food and drink out of the bathtub faucet?? At least that is what I want to believe... I'd hate to think that my Bailey was in a dumpster. Josephine sent me Edna's papers and some baby pictures (which I put in a safe spot and now can't find)... her given name was "Edna Love-A-Lot" and she was born February 21, 1990. She was a darling kitten and I can't believe her mom was so mean to her... Josephine said it would be like she was trying to kill her! Here's Josephine and Bailey. I made Bailey's middle name Edna... Bailey Edna I would call her sometimes. Over the years, Bailey became more friendly to us... in her own way. She would rub against your leg and would tolerate being held, for a short time, then she wanted down. Bailey was never afraid of the dogs, which surprised me... would walk past Kodi's nose while he was laying down. She modeled a little for greyhound donations. She and Peanut became best buddies... oh they would fight like brother and sister, he would hide and jump out at her when she walked past and there they would be in a pile rolling around and fighting on the floor. Enjoying 2007 Secret Santa gifts from Treat, Blueberry, Lilac and Hawk. Two days before Bailey died, I had her laying on the hassock in the living room. Peanut jumped up next to her and just stared down at her... I was sobbing thinking he knows she is dying. He was so gentle with her and laid with her throughout the night, switching places on either side of her, they were actually spooning at one time. The next night Peanut walked through the house wailing and the most pitiful howl. The day she died, I brought her to him before we left for the vet and he didn't even want to look or smell her. He slept in the other room for a couple days after, but is now sleeping where Bailey slept. I miss my girl more than I can say.... I keep thinking I see her, a flash of white fur, sitting by the water bowl. She would always he up sitting by where I fed her in the comptuer room just waiting for me... when I got up in the morning and when I got home after work. You will always be alive in our hearts.... until we meet again. Bailey Edna ~ February 21, 1990 - October 9, 2008

  12. I told someone I would not use a flea collar on my dog because I don't think they are healthy. Now they are paranoid and are asking what is wrong with them... what is an intelligent answer to give? To me it is like having a citronella candle around your neck all the time, yuck! That just doesn't sound intelligent though... This is not for a greyhound, but a mixed breed.
  13. Oh no Liz, I am so sorry to see Nimby's name. What a beautiful girl she is. I am sure she was met by Earl as well as Geniene. She is in good company until you all meet up again. to your family.
  14. Praying as hard as we can that Deuce is alright and you all will be home soon and let us know that everything is ok.

  21. That is so beautiful! Great pictures, clear and color is wonderful! Thank you Meredith!
  22. They are flat at the end and move around like they are waving at you, if that helps. She lived with another grey in her foster home, I wonder if that means she also may have them?
  23. Oh wow, thank you VanillaBean, you've eased my mind! Gross indeed! I am not feeling too good myself right now and almost fainted!
  24. We just adopted Pixie last night. I was sitting in the yard with Callie and Pixie about 15 minutes ago and Pixie finally did her first poop. She HAS WORMS!!! She is painfully skinny and her foster mom said she hadn't been eating for awhile! What kind of worms are these and what do I do so that our other dogs and cats don't catch them? She will be off the vet tomorrow.
