  1. Would Pepto be okay ot should it be Pepcid? If so, how much? I called the vet this morning, but I haven't heard back yet.
  2. Carrier has been vomiting a few times this week/past week. Here's a timeline of the events: Last Wednesday (27) in the evening when Tim came home, he wanted to eat grass like crazy, tim let him have little and then gave him some pepto. he has done this in the past and the pepto would settle him and he would be fine. On Thursday, he vomited some bile in the morning and some grass. On Friday morning, he vomited what looked like a grass sausage. Obviously all the grass that he consumed earlier had just accumulated and finally he had to chuck. Over the weekend, he was fine and then again this morning he threw up at 6am - there was a quite a bit - mostly bile but there was also some kibble and treats from his dinner and bed time snack last night (and a few strands of grass). He ate dinner at 7pm and when he puked this morning at 6, there was still some food. At 7am this morning, he went outside and puked again, but this time it was just more bile. He is acting fine other than this. Has had perfect and regular poops and his temp is 100.5 as of this morning. Tim gave him one cup of food this morning, and made some rice for later today. Carrier ate it (very excited) and took a poop - that again was perfect. So the food is passing through him, but I don't understand why he would be puking so much. I know that sometimes they do this when they are hungry in the morning, but the fact that there was still some food in the vomit this morning, leads me to believe that he wasn't hungry. I am not sure if I should bring him to the vet or just monitor him since he fine otherwise. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks. eva

  6. This week I also found out that Andy's mom passed away a few months ago from cancer. Sweetness' family had lost our email and wasn't able to contact us, but when I emailed them to say hello and tell them about Saddlebred, they told me the news. It's nice to know that both of Andy's parents lived to 13 and 14 years old, but still sad to hear of their passing. Thankfully they both had a great life after their parental duties. Andy isn't that phased but I am sad. Sweetness was a great dog and her mom is missing her so much. Please keep her mom (Roberta) in your prayers. Run free sweet girl.
  7. I saw this article and thought I would share: --- From www.hendersonvillenews.com May 12. 2007 9:52PM Animal advocate memorialized with dogwood Millicent Smith worked diligently with greyhound rescue organizations and tirelessly acted on behalf of the animals. The Hendersonville resident realized her strong bonds with animals of all kinds from childhood, which lead her to get involved. Smith was especially involved with the plight of the retired racing greyhounds, realizing that those who didn't find homes would be disposed of after they had raced their hearts out for their owners/trainers, said friend Peggy Brann. "Millicent gave so much of her heart and life to greyhounds and their people, gave without thinking for one moment what the personal or financial cost would be," Brann said. "There was always a way for Millicent." Eight years ago, Smith had a desire to do something so that all greyhounds could get together and have fun. She set out on a mission to provide a place for the hounds to run and socialize out of harm's way, Brann said. She orchestrated an agreement with the Fletcher Parks and Recreation Department to use a baseball field at Fletcher Community Park eight months a year. Strong friendships have resulted in these weekly meetings, and each year new greyhounds join in the fun, Brann said. "Imaging Technologies of Asheville was so impressed with this humane effort that they created and donated a beautiful banner which is proudly displayed every Saturday at the park," Brann said. Smith discovered in 2006 that she had terminal cancer. She died March 18, just one month away from her 51st birthday. "Following the funeral, her many friends and their greyhounds gathered at her home in Hendersonville to pay final tribute to this remarkable woman," Brann said. "We could think of no better way to honor Millicent than to plant a tree in her memory at Fletcher Park. No other tree would do for a native North Carolinian than the official state flower, complete with the word "dog" in it." A red dogwood tree was planted at 10 a.m. Saturday. "We would like to think that Millicent and her greyhounds will always be present when we have our fun run," Brann said.
  8. Saddlebred was Andy's dad and we are so sad to hear of his passing. We were fortunate enough to be in touch with Teddy Palmer via email and were able to share photos of the two boys. Andy looks so much like his dad - we will always see Saddle when we look at our Andy. Here is a copy of the email that I got his weekend... Run free sweet boy. --- Saddlbred, a simple, solid name, much like the dog. He was a patriarch that guarded his pack. Saddle always remained outside until all his charges were safely inside. Which is how Teddy came to know him. She was working turn outs at the farm and Saddle walked between Teddy and the other rambunctious males to shield her. He was never demanding. He waited quietly until Mom was able to address his needs. He was the one dog that could always be trusted to share space with Blue even during her seizures. I didn't really think of his as alpha because of his gentle ways, but really he was the best alpha for the same reason. He wasn't a fighter or domineering. He protected. Everyone! Saddlebred was an excellent racer who stayed in Grade A or AA for most of his career. He was in several stake races. And he sired some great dogs a few of whom we've had the pleasure to know. In fact, Saddle was a foundation stud of the Abita racing kennel. No one who met Saddle ever doubted the quality of the dog in any way. The Palmers and the rest of us who knew him will miss him very much. We smile at the pleasure knowing him brought while shedding tears for losing him. ---
