  1. I remember reading about Iberia and Frank when I first joined Greytalk; I have never forgotten them, you, and the journey you have all been on. My heart goes out to you, this is such a hard thing to go through. I am so very sorry for your loss.
  2. Could it be pica? Does he have any medical issues? Has he been wormed lately?

  7. I absolutely respect your reasons for doing it, and kudos to you for sticking with your ethics. We all know how I feel about vegans and meat rabbits.
  8. Wow, Steph, he is GORGEOUS!!!
  9. oh, wow, he is seriously cute!!! Congratulations!
  10. I draw the blood from the greyhounds coming in our group, and I always pull from the neck. It's a million times easier, the blood pools better, and I rarely have any issues. Most of the dogs have no visible bruising or swelling; maybe one in 20 will have a hematoma, and that is usually caused by the dog being overactive while I physically have the needle in the neck. I do apply pressure to the vein after the puncture for a minute to make sure it clots. I think, at the end of the day, that some vet techs just don't have the experience in drawing blood, and it does take practice.... but a dog should never BLEED after a blood draw, that means they didn't apply pressure, and probably moved the needs around too much during the draw itself.
  11. Oh, Kim, I am so, so sorry. Dallas was a beautiful boy, and a beautiful soul. I'm so sorry you've had to let two go so close together, I can't imagine. I'm here for you. :grouphug
  12. My boxer had a mast cell tumor on his tail; we amputated his tail. The healing was rocky, and we ended up getting a second surgery, but he healed and was 100% after that. I will be thinking of you and Joiya tomorrow.
  13. I'm so sorry for your loss. :grouphug Run free, sweet Maggie.
  14. My Sydney Sue had sleep aggression, and bit me in the face, drawing blood and leaving a nasty bruise. I yelled at her out of shock and fear (I was asleep when it happened) and she was so upset and shocked at what happened.... the lesson I learned was to not sleep with her, and to call her name to wake her up (and make sure she was awake) before approaching her. Sleep aggression isn't a conscious thing with them, it's an ingrained protection device for them, and some of them do not get trained out of it. It just is what it is, and it's up to us to work around it. I don't have kids, and I do think that would be a concern for you; maybe you can find a way to give the dog a safe space the child cannot get to so that Chance can sleep undisturbed and so that you are not constantly worrying about it. I'm sorry your husband was hurt, that is really hard to face, but Chance didn't do it out of meanness or true aggression... it was just a knee-jerk response. :grouphug

  16. The situation itself is NOT funny. But, the Homer Simpson on the x-ray made me laugh. I wonder what the vet's reaction was?
  17. I am so, so sorry for your loss. Riley was one of the first greyhounds I admired on GreyTalk, and he is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen. It has been so very obvious how much you love him. I am so sorry, I know your heart is breaking, but the pain doesn't last forever. Godspeed, Riley, run free with the angels. :grouphug
  18. Wow, what a horrible accident!! Poor Manny, he is a trooper, and VERY lucky to have such good parents. He is a beautiful boy.
  19. oh, Lucy, I am so, so sorry. It is so hard to let them go. I think you are making the right decision, it would be heartbreaking to inadvertently cause him more pain by not taking any action. :grouphug I had my vet come to my house to help Sydney Sue cross over. It was beautiful. I have a very small house, and all the other dogs (two other greyhounds, and one Chinese Crested) were in the living room with us. I did crate the crested, because he was super high energy, and I didn't want him messing with Syd. When the vet came into the house, Syd went and laid down on her bed, like she knew. He gave her the injections, and when she was gone, he listened for a heart beat, and told me she was gone. I went into my bedroom (to cry and bawl and sob) and my best friend and the vet wrapped Syd up and took her away. The vet took her to the crematorium, and I was sent the ashes a week later. There is NO way I could have been in the room when he wrapped her up. But letting her go at home was just so peaceful for her, I am so glad I did that for her.
  20. I met Lauri years ago, we rode together to go to a greyhound placement rep meeting. There was a wildfire burning that day, but it didn't seem too bad when we met up. It progressed during the course of the meeting. By the time Lauri and I left and started the drive home, they were shutting down freeways - I think it took us 4 hours to make it back, it was crazy. We always laughed about it after, and we NEVER rode together again. I helped Lauri adopt Clark when she was ready for a new dog after losing her beloved Miles; that was the last time I talked with her. She was a wonderful person with a big heart and a big smile. She will be greatly missed by many.
  21. Wow, you just aren't catching a break, are you? I hope his results come back okay.
  22. Sweet Alan. I can't believe it's been six months already. :grouphug
