  1. One thing, vet!!! A sudden change in peeing behavior always needs to be followed up by a vet visit.
  2. Our vet also gives our 14 year old boy Depo shots and what amazes me is the instant relief. He is a bit more food motivated, may have to go out a bit more, but be honest, wouldn't you be happy about a 14 year old with a healthy appetite? And even before the shots, who can be months apart, he started to have to go out a bit more. Because, he is a senior… And there are days, he doesn't remember he went just 5 minutes ago… And those are the one side effects we see. If there are others, we don't really worry about, the benefits for him out shine the side effects
  3. They go to where ever they found love. Galgo's will always be in your heart. Just like Isa and Fynn, both galgos are in mine, forever safe, Dandi will be in yours, forever close. Hugs. And if you want to whisper more names, Timo, Silvan, Pleun, Nena, Luna Ariana and Paco are only a few of the many that are without worries now.
  4. Lehto is 2 years and 3 months old now and is still gangly and skinny. Thanks to his adventure with the green tomatoes he will likely never look really filled out. With 3 meals a day you can still see most of his ribs. But he's looking a lot better now then he did for a long time. And then there is Romeo, who at just over a year old already looks totally different and more filled out.
  5. Take her with you! Been wanting to meet your little girl
  6. Yep, a real fight won't be broken up by just yelling at them. They need time. Kevin made sure he will be given the respect he expects from a teenager.
  7. After talking with Gamo's owner it sounds like Kevin just laid down the rules for Gamo. Gamo is a real teenager and it sounds like he may have pushed Kevins buttons a bit. We'll keep a close look on the situation and if needed consult a professional.
  8. I think you are doing the right thing, in class we give them gentle encouragement until they have had success one or two times, by than, they are usually over it. Avoiding the situation isn't going to work, just realizing they need some extra time and are not trying to be a pain.
  9. Having raised Lehto from 12 weeks on and Paquita from just 5 weeks I definitely believe there are fear phases. And they aren't gone after 8 or 9 months. Heck, the agility class I am taking Lehto too with dogs his age (he will be 2 next month) we still have some issues at times because they still can decide that that one piece of equipment that they have done for months without trouble, suddenly has become this fearful monster. If greyhounds are like most big dogs and sighthounds, they mature somewhat later than the smaller dogs is my understanding.
  10. That would send Cara back up the walls. Duh, it would send my husband up the walls
  11. Yes, the only way is to keep this from happening is making sure the behavior never gets rewarded. Keep counters clean from anything edible.
  12. Yes Katie, you will have to do some alone training with Berna. Having Castle there will help a lot. Give me a call one of these days and we can talk it through.
  13. You've been given some good advice but mostly, it has only been two days. Give him some time to adjust. This boy has been through hell, went into foster care for a bit, than on a scary plane and now is on your home for two days. His word is upside down and he needs time to settle, to adjust. And overall he is being a good boy. Give hime time…
  14. No advice from my side. Our boy Tex has the same issues, just not as bad yet. For me there is are a few things I take in consideration and most important one is, if they has several good years with me, I rather be a week too early, than 5 minutes too late. My personal preference is to let them go in peace, rather than when they are struggling for breath. Others may disagree. 2 things I learned after all this time, dogs live by the day and they don't hold a grudge. If I can let them peacefully go at a good day, I will. To me that weighs more heavy than keeping them around for me.
  15. Sounds like a great opportunity to go meet some hounds and ask questions. Can't give you any info on what group to go with. My suggestion would be, talk to them and see where you feel at home. Are the upcoming dogs galgos from Spain or greyhounds from Ireland?
  16. Hi Merc, Welcome to GT, you will find a lot of information here about how to care for a greyhound. You will also find out that there is a world of a difference between Europe and the US. Have you already located a group in Italy that you want to work with? I don't speak Italian, but this group: http://www.soslevrieri.it seems to be working with both the greyhounds and lurchers coming from Ireland and the UK and the galgos from Spain. Looks like there is a lot of info on all the breeds, so it may be good start. Wishing you a lot of fun finding your first hound.
  17. Thanks every one, looking into expanding Lehto's food slowly. But at the is moment he seems to be doing well on the rice chicken and sweet potato. His stools are ok at the moment and he is starting to fill out a bit. If we can keep this up we may be able to skip the blood test to check his pancreas. Still, after eating, he still sometimes seems to be in pain. One of the things I will have to ask the vet about next time.
  18. Congratulations, glad to see you found your boy.
  19. Thanks every one. Today he got a whole cooked egg, by accident . And his stools where loose, not bloody though, so back to just chicken, rice and sweet potato. Husband seems to think all will be fine if we just add fiber. Don't think we are at that point yet.
  20. Thanks every one! Diane, how do you grind eggshells so fine that you can use it as an addition? Yes, we are going slow and steady now and so far, so good. The challenge will be to find a treat so good for agility that he won't take off searching for food. Which is hard, we have a puppy class before us that is very generous with all kinds of goodies
  21. Well, Lehto really has done it this time. Like any other young dog he got himself into trouble by eating something bad. Unfortunately, the damage is permanent and according to the et he has IBD. For now he gets Tylan powder on his food which he is eating well. So no problems there. Second, he tolerates cooked chicken legs. (I boil it until the meat falls of the bone) I give him everything except the bones. He handles white rice well and we have now added sweet potato for fiber. So far so good. Kibble will make him sick in a few days. And we are not willing to take that risk for now. We are staying away from kibble, any kibble. Home cooking for at least several months now so we can find out what triggers him. He reacted pretty bad to the mozzarella low fat string cheese we used in the past for class, not sure it was the fat or it being a milk product. So, that is where we are now. He is still on the skinny side, but not too bad. And even though he is about 20 months old, he doesn't seem done growing or filling out and he is high energy. What supplements will he need and what foods can we add? I am already thinking of a multi vitamin (human) and I guess he needs a calcium source.
  22. We'll all miss this honorary greyhound name Jilly Bean. Thanks for sharing her with us these years.
