  1. We have one close to us Robin, so if you are ever in the neighborhood. I miss the Lidl, switched from Aldi to Lidle when I lived in the Netherlands because Lidle was marked as having the best fresh department of any grocery store in the Netherlands. And it was cheap, so perfect when you are a jobless single Mom. But I am happy with my Aldi here, specially around this time of year with their European specialties. Will pop in today, see if they have some pumpkin left.

Laura, I am so sorry to hear he passed on. I'll always remember him running through the waves as he did 4 years ago. He was loving every second of it and I am glad I got the chance to see and meet him.
  3. I am so sorry Lori, he was one of GT's favorites and will be sorely missed. Loved reading your conversations with him, they always managed to make me smile and I think that goes for the most of us.
  4. My first galgo Isa turned out being almost totally blind, we didn't notice until she developed a tumor on the nerve to her brain that pushed her eye out. Until than the only thing that should have give us a clue was that she was scared of bridges, stairs and would trip over the edge of the sidewalks, when everything was white because of snow. At that point she already had lost sight in one eye. Still managed to catch some birds with her greyhound sister though.
  5. Oh my, I have seen your boy at grapehounds and he does look great. Lehto was a lot skinnier at that age. I think I agree with Brindles, he could do with a bit more muscle, but that might be because I am used to my little muscle butt. But believe me, your boy looks fine and he caught the attention of many with his looks
  6. We are going through the same thing with Lehto who is 15 months now and just 2 days ago we were at the vet. Just to give you an idea, Lehto is the same shoulder height as our 3 year old foster greyhound is, but he only weighs 56 pounds at this moment. I am not worried though, he is healthy and still needs to fill out. And really, my vet wasn't worried either, she sees them rather a bit on the skinny side than overweight. Lehto gets 4 cups of food, most of all our hounds and we have started to add some red meat to it. And finally since a few days, he isn't eating like he is starved anymore. To be honest, I had to get used to the greyhounds over here, most of the ones I have met up till now, unless they came straight from the track, look too heavy to me. I prefer seeing some ribs as long as the dog is muscular also. As for young dogs, I have seen so many growing up galgo's that grow faster than their owners can feed them, I am not worried.
  7. Hi Lisbeth, Welcome here. There's several galgo owners on this board. There's 2.5 galgo's in our household, a 5 year old female and a 1 year old male. The 0.5 is our galgo bordercollie mix girl of 10 years old. Oh, and we have Tex, our 13 year old greyhound. We love to see pictures on this board. I see you use Flickr. The easiest way to post pictures from there you can see on this picture
  8. Yes Robin, galgo's and greyhounds are so close that the same rules go for them, blood values are also the same. It is one of the reasons Dr. Couto is so interested in the galgo's
  9. Oh Cindy, I am so very sorry to hear this

  11. Wow Beth, she is gorgeous! And no, I won't tell you how wonderful it is that you jumped in to help this girl, I'll just oeh and ahh over her looks
  12. Hi and welcome to greytalk. The group of galgo owners on GT is slowly growing As Robin mentioned, galgo's in general do not like the confinement of a crate. They are not used to it and normally I will not suggest it to a new galgo owner unless the dog endangers himself by tearing up the house. Another thing I usually suggest is to ignore the dog, people are inclined to cuddle them a lot, glad they finally made it out of Spain. Give him time to adjust on his own without being in his face all the time. They will get curious and come towards you if they aren't too scared to be near people. As for the language barrier, I've had galgo's for 13 years and fostered many, they get used to their new names and languages really fast. Mine had to adjust from Spanish, to Dutch and now English is added to that and they do fine. This boy has been through a lot recently, from the shelter/fosterhome in Spain where he probably was neutered not to long before the flight, than a very scary flight(took mine some tome to get over that) to another shelter and now into your home. Also remember, he probably wasn't alone his whole life. They grow up in groups with other dogs, they are in groups in the shelter, the fosterhomes in Spain usually have several dogs and now, for the first time he is being left alone, and crated on top of that. He sounds curious already,he'll get there.

  18. Would suggest to read the comments to this also, specially the ones of scottishquine. Aggravating a tick is never a good idea, I really suggest you use a tool like this You don't have to touch the tick and removal is fast and without any problems.
  19. Anymore updates? Love to see more of this handsome boy. Handsome and cute
  20. :yay Congratulations, glad all went well KLM is pretty good as far as flying pets goes. Lehto came over with them also. GRH is pretty thorough and a good group to work with. Ca't believe he is smaller than Lehto
  21. Vitamine E should help keeping the skin smooth and don't forget to use sun lotion. Use it before you even would think using it for yourself. And you may want to use bandana's and so on when it gets colder to protect it.
