  1. Keep improving Cougar!!! Sending lots of prayers
  2. I am not a fan of NSAIDs since 80% of the adverse reactions that occur, occur in seniors. Long term use of aspirin is not a good idea. Do you have him on supplements? Try Joint Health & Fresh Factors from Springtime The other thing you can do to jump start are Adequan shots. If he can tolerate pred, that is another choice.
  3. I'm going to guess yes, but will check. I found this interesting (from a people description): another people site indicated a creatine clearance test generally was based on a 24 hour urine collection.
  4. Depending on where you live and where you buy the food and who the distributor is, it could be a bad bag. Here is Houston, the weather is already awful and I know one distributor stores the food outside in unairconditioned trailers. This can cause it to become rancid. I know one retailer who isn't good with a/c and my vet's "kids" got very ill after feeding a new bag from that store. If she continues I'd return it and get another bag.
  5. June 18, 2009 Good Evening, Diane, It's been a rough couple of days here at the house of Winslow. About 2 weeks ago, Winslow got a bump on his toe. At first I thought it may be a bee sting or a thorn. It didn't hurt him and he wasn't limping, so I just watched it for a few days. It was about the size of a pea. I kept measuring it and it didn't grow. Craig and I decided that we would take him to the vet because it wasn't changing at all. Tuesday evening, we came home and there was blood splattered all over the living room.. the floor, sofa, bed... The bump had ruptured and was bleeding. I got an appointment yesterday, not with the oncologist (too busy) but the regular vet at the practice. She's very good. She did needle aspirations and made slides. She consulted with our oncologist and we got an appointment with him. He looked at the slides and called me last night. He said that he saw abnormal cells, but didn't know if they were from inflamation or possibly cancer of some kind. Obviously I've been freaking out.. just the mention of cancer does that to me. Meanwhile, the vet made the cut in this thing larger. Because of his tripod status, I didn't want it bandaged. This morning, I could see into it with a flashlight and magnifying glass. It was bleeding when he went for walks and stopped when he was resting. For the first time, he wanted to lick it. I spent the day putting antibiotic cream on it, preventing Winslow from licking it, and monitoring it. By this evening, it was no longer bleeding on walks, Winslow decided not to lick it and the shape changed from round like a pea, to sort of like a squashed pea, but it's still the same size and still causing no pain. We went out for awhile this evening and when we came home, it was still not bleeding. Winslow is not sick, has no symptoms of anything, isn't limping and the "thing" doesn't hurt. He wants to know why I didn't take him swimming today. We go early Friday morning to get the results from the pathologist and see what we need to do about it. We will be moving to the basement next week because regardless, this has to be removed. Winslow has done two legs before and fortunately this is the same foot as the two legged episode a couple of years ago. But, he can't do stairs on two legs. I'll keep you posted about the progress of this. Thanks for all your help. If not for you and Marilyn, I would have gone totally off the rails by now. Glynis
  6. I've had dogs do that and either the food was bad or there was a problem with a tooth. Are you at the end of a bag? How are you storing it? Did you buy a new bag? Has she had a checkup at the vet recently? Has she ever done this before? Lots of questions I know but hopefully it will make you think of possibilities. Sometimes they will skip a meal and I don't get concernec, but I do wonder when they do what she did--act like she will eat then smells the food and won't touch it. When that happens I return the food.
  7. Grace, the youngest, eats as much as Pablo who is 85#. Some of them (especially the younger kids) need more food. The only thing I suggest is checking for worms
  8. Sending prayers. SieSie learned to use that "thing" as a weapon. She was so mad she had to wear it
  9. I hope not too much damage has been done! Are you doing panacur for 5 days? I would seeing how bad he is. Once you worm the Interceptor should keep it in control. With that bad a reading, I'd worm him every 6 months just because.
  10. Your least expensive, expensive food might be Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. EVO would be another. Will he eat green beans?
  11. Any food you try that he will not eat you can return. Try the expensive ones. I know that doesn't make sense, but he will eat much less per day than the cheap brands. Where are you located?
  12. At this point I'd get a second opinion. It's been going on way too long. Sending prayers.
  13. A vet coming to the house? Try letting him lick ice cubes. I don't like it when they cannot keep anything down including water. Any way he ate a piece of toy or ball or?
  14. NSAIDs can damage the kidneys. Withdrawn, the kidneys usually respond well.
  15. I know Bodie had very good results with Transfer Factor for his auto immune skin disorder. I have bought it from: Better Herbs Pet Health
  16. If the glands are blocked, it's my understanding they have to be operated on. Is he on antibiotics? Two Fentanyl patches?
  17. I wouldn't be worried at all. I have a feeling the test from last year at .9 was incorrect. Do you have one from before last year? Email me at Burpdog@msn.com and I can email you all the kidney papers
  18. Sending prayers! I suggest they sedate him and thoroughly check his mouth and throat. It could be anything from blocked saliva glands to bad tooth to spider bite to ??????? (splinter in gum, etc.)
  19. I wonder if the shampoo had anything to do with this latest breakout. Not a strange mix at all. Saw one in KS at Greyhound America. Very handsome dog! Have your vet call WalMart for any prescriptions you can get there like pred and many of the antibiotics. It will save a lot. Your vet should understand "financially strapped" and if he/she doesn't, find another vet. Sending prayers you both feel well soon! btw - re pred if you do every other day (for instance 10 mg every other instead of 5 each day) it will cut down on the side effects) I give milk thistle to help support the liver when a dog is on pred.
