  1. Do you mean my avatar? If so, that is Austin. His one tatoo was obliterated so we could not figure out who he was but knew he was born 12/92. He went to the bridge a year ago February. He was my clown, clueless yet sensitive goofy boy. I miss him so much! Dr. Couto helped me through his thyroid soft tissue osteocarcoma time, and Ivey's osteo and Slick's kidney tumor and countless other "help me" issues.
  2. OK - I have not heard of using panacur for tape. I've been told it does not get tape. So, imagine my surprise to come upon this product: Panacur C Canine Dewormer for the treatment and control of roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. Panacur (fenbendazole) is used to treat hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms in dogs. Panacur is to treat other parasites as well. Panacur is available as 1gm, 2gm and 4gm powder packets. The usual dose is one packet, based on weight, once a day for 3 consecutive days. Panacur can be mixed with a small amount of the animals usual food. Allivet
  3. I've had several vets tell me that Interceptor works well but not good for getting rid of them if they have an infestation. Robin, were it me, I'd get the Drontal and worm them. Ineterceptor will keep them usually from hook and whip but does not work on tape edited to add: re seeing them--check bedding and their butts
  4. Email Dr. Couto at Ohio State with the path report and history, and encourage your vet to join Veterinarians for Retired Racing Greyhounds! Sending prayers. 5. Let him have as much water as he wants! He has to drink. I'd call the University of WI and see if you can get an appointment for Monday or Tuesday and have them consult with Dr. Couto.
  6. A little recap: You cannot see hook or whip with the naked eye. You cannot get rid of hook or whip from your yard. This is the main reason I use Interceptor. Round worm is usually a puppy worm and the oldest I've seen it in is a 2 yr old. The mother (bitch) can be negative for this worm yet the puppies will have it. Depending on the age of the worm, it goes from several inches to 6-9 inches or better and looks like spaghetti, white and when it dies, pinkish in color. Tape worm that we see is probably 99.99% from a flea. It only takes one I remember the only year Burp had tape I did not see one flea on him. Other years, I found fleas and no tape. From memory (and everyone knows how that seems to be going), there are 4 or 5 different types of tape and I think the most common are from fleas and wild game. In looking at the web a little I see mention of tapes in finches, llamas that there is a beef tape and a pork tape, etc. Drontal Plus: Many times whip is very hard to find in a fecal. Years ago a vet who did his research paper on tape worms (which is the easiest of worms on the body according to him), said if you suspect a worm problem that is not showing up, you need to take in a stool sample every day for 3 days in a row. RobinM: it is quite possible that your guys had two different kinds.
  7. The sealant should be ok. The vaccine: in a word, no. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showto...=dental+vaccine http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showto...=dental+vaccine From Dr. Feeman:
  8. The operative word is flat They appear to have tape and that means you need to get Droncit or Drontal. Take a sample of the segment in. Usually you will see them right on the top of the pile, or rice like things on the rectum. Sometimes squiggly and sometimes dead--depends on how long after they come out. Unless they are extremely loaded--then you will see quite a bit of tape Happened to me once when I took a friend's Dobe to a show. He pooped out tons of tape. Rather disgusting.....
  9. Definetely get him in for a thyroid panel! I would do that before any more drugs. Until that is done, all our advice may be for nought....
  10. You can't kill them. When I researched them many moons ago, only the white flame of a blow torch would get them. Yes, I took a blow torch to gravel runs.....I was young then
  11. I would take the actual worm Many times tape doesn't show.
  12. If you are using panacur it won't get tape. Have you taken the worm sample in to the vet? Tape requires droncit (drontal) edited to add: you cannot see hook or whip with the naked eye.
  13. I believe you will not be sorry! I've asked a few others to come on in and share their experiences
  14. Is this a specialist I hope? Sending many prayers. Isn't this Abby? I saw this the other day in my photos. It's one of my favorites!
  15. Dr. Couto is doing a study as he feels artemisinin is quite promising. You can ask questions here: Yahoo Aremisinin Group Sending lots of prayers!
  16. I get bursitis in my hips and I never swelled (oh wait, maybe that is what is wrong with my stomach????all these years? ) Are you sure he didn't say vasculitis? Email Ohio State asap.
  17. There are several who have made the trek I'll see if I can get them to answer here. btw - I would go if needed with one of mine were it close enough.
  18. So, except for strangers, he is coming out of the crate to spend time with you? There are some spooks that take several years to make progress. I can't remember--you did do a thyroid panel on him, right?
  19. Sounds like it is growing rapidly Pain meds: tramadol, morphine, neurontin. Sending many prayers. There simply is no set time.......
  20. Unless you tested for all the TBDs you really don't know if he has one. Also, I've seen many dogs test negative yet respond to doxy. I would email the consult line at Ohio State ASAP and I might have my vet call & try to get ahold of them this morning: Consult: greyosu@osu.edu Last Name First Name Title Department Work Phone eMail Address Couto Guillermo Professor Veterinary Clinical Sciences (614) 292-3551 couto.1@osu.edu
  21. Did they do gum repair in addition to taking out the teeth? I've not had any of mine sutured.
