  1. Sad that an individual is that crazy. Don't blame the state, it is the individual that is bad. Most people in Wyoming are good responsible people.
  2. I am in the NEVER camp. As a sight hound they can see a tempting targeted 1/2 mile a way. If the hunting instinct which has been what they have been trained do for centuries kicks in and unless you can run 35-45 mph they will be out of sight in no time. The track dogs shut down hearing because so many people are yelling to them. I learned a lesson recently. I pulled them aside when a little dog went by. They have never been a problem with little furry things. Then the little dog yapped at them. I was unprepared, and was pulled over by our two. Laying on the ground I was very happy I had a firm hold on their leashes.
  3. Tramadol usually works ( take it myself) We also used Metacam when Sam was in pain. Is this a vet who knows greyhounds? If she does not come up with an answer, maybe try a different vet.
  4. When Sam was in pain, we used Metacam and Tramadol. Seemed to work well
  5. she has no other signs and does not do it at home or in the back yard, only on walks. I don't think it could be any disease or injury/ No foxtails anywhere we walk. .
  6. Our nine year old female has started a weird behavior on walks. She sniffs and sniffs grass until she finds the "right" spot. Then she digs a little and rubs her snout one way then the other, she then will dig a little and rub some more. She didn't do this before, it is a recent behavior.
  7. When our dogs get excited and jump, I turn my back on them until they settle down. They get excited when it is time for their walk. I sit down until they settle down. It usually works well
  8. Just a thought, does your dog bed have a bolster back. I was watching ours on the couch and he was reaching leaning on the c 22nd back
  9. We have dog beds all over the house. Sometimes they use them, but some times pick a floor spot thats cool. Our 9 year old used to sleep on a bed in front of the tv, but now only sleeps there when the tv is off, Maybe the noise of the AC. I would not worry about it. Our two move around to different beds. One does sleep on the couch, the other has never. Maybe she is more secure and knows she is safe now
  10. We are really lucky. Our dogs are not bothered by any noise. We even took them to a fireworks show, and they slept through most of it. Maybe taking small walks,or making small noise and build up its tolerance
  11. Now I am worried. our 9 year older MIMI had a growth on her toe. the vet said it was not a problem, Now she has a Lump on her back leg on the same leg a the toe was removed. THe vet again said it was not a problem. How can you be sure
  12. I am so sorry for your loss. Last year we had to let our Sam go. He had osteo. We kept him pain free as long as we could, I still cry when I think of him. He was such a joy and sweet. He one time had ten kids petting him at the park and he was so gentle . We have a new male, he makes me laugh every day, but cannot take Sams place. Gotta go, tears now.
  13. We have a big basket of toys for our two. The game is for them to take them all out and scatter them around the house. Then the wife and I put them all back and it starts again. That said their preference varies from time to time. If what ever toy they want is on the bottom of the basket they will dig for it. Their preference varies. They seem to like those that squeak. I know some dogs that have a favorite and won't accept anything else. It is trial and error.
  14. 72 and 73. I guess I now have to admit we are "old" I always said old is 15 years older than I am.
  15. Mimi, age 9, has a lump on her rear leg. Biopsy has no conclusions. Xray shows bone is more "rough" edges than normal. Any Ideas What her problem might be? Really concerned because we lost Sam last year to bone cancer. His started with a lump on his shoulder. Vet says just watch it.
  16. Been gone for a while. Sadly we lost Sam last year, and its been rough, We have a new one, we call Boomer He was Will, then Kirby, now Boomer/ He spent his life in Mexico racing, and retired at 4 1/2. Thinking of Sam still brings tears to my eyes.

Boomer is such a clown, and makes us laugh every day We attended a different group reception of new dogs and it was great. Looking forward to a new involvement and adventure.

  17. When Sam had LS, we took him to a Vet/chiropractor who used "adjustment" and lazer. I did work, but it is not a permanent fix. He had to go back at least once a month
  18. Thank you all for your messages. Mimi had another appt. 4 vets reviewed her xray and nothing on the xray. They checked her feet and still nothing. They took a sample from the swelling, and still nothing. They are stumped. She has started putting her foot down a little bit, but hops most of the time. Sam has an appointment to be checked.
  19. Our 7 year old, Mimi, suddenly started holding up her rear leg and walking with leg pulled up. Once in a while she would put down and walk, but with a limp. She was fine the night before and had the problem the next morning. To our knowledge she did nothing to cause an injury. We took her to the vet, who x-rayed and examined her. She checked for corns, and injury. Nothing showed up in the xray or examine. One toe and "ankle" are swollen. She gave us pain pills and antibiotic, but that does not seem to have helped. Its been 5 days since the exam. (follow up tomorrow) NOW our 9 year old, Sam, has started limping on his front leg. Again no sign of injury. It was ok, then suddenly started limping. He's been to the Chiropractor for treatment on his rear end, stenosis Every 3 weeks he gets lazer and chiro treatment on the rear end. She examined his front leg and found nothing, but tried the same treatment on the front, but he is worse today.. I reviewed all the "limping" threads and found nothing like this. It is frustrating when they can find nothing wrong, but obviously something is
  20. We started with two. They are 7 & 9. They have only run short distances with my granddaughters but LOVE their walks. We usually go out every evening and walk about 1.5 to 2 miles. Our boy insists on his walk about 6 every night. They spend much of the day sleeping on their beds. We have two beds in our living room and two in our bedroom. I also live in a hot climate, so evening walks work best. Occasionally we go in the morning, but I am not a morning person and they aren't either. I know a guy who has 3 in a one bedroom apartment, He takes them for walks twice a day and they do find. Greys at the track spend most of their lives in crates. They get out 4 times a day for potty and exercise, and maybe race twice a week, so they are usually ok with a crate. because they are around other dogs and handlers sometimes they have separation anxiety. If you have weekends off, get the dog on Friday so you will have time to be sure how he will be. Work up to leaving him alone. They have never tried to get on the furniture, but my wife would let them if they wanted. Welcome to the cult. You won't regret it.
  21. Over 70 Too. So for me it would make no difference on the last poll
  22. Sam gets Chiro and lazer treatments. He has Lumbar stenosis(?) He would have pain episodes and would not put his back leg down. We started taking him twice a week, then once a week, not it is every 3 weeks. The treatment has done a lot of good. He seldom has a pain episodes now. The vet is a DVM in addition to Holistic treatments. I was skeptical of Chiropractic treatment and posted here for suggestions. The majority said try it.
  23. Sam is just laying in his bed, or just stood up from his bed. They are together most of the time and no problem. They usually just pick what bed they want. Mimi suddenly just snaps, and barks. I've tried to see what triggered it, but haven't seen anything unusual.
  24. We have had Sam & Mimi for 4 months. They came as a pair as they were returns and had spent 3 years together. For the first 3 months, they were fine. Mimi has started growling and snapping. She has not actually bitten, just snapping close to Sam and growling. There has been no change in their environment No change in mood and no change in routine. .We've tried to see what was happening when she does this behavior, but can't see any difference.. Mimi gets really excited on walks when she sees a small dog or cat. I've got a sore shoulder from holding her back, when she saw a small dog running in the street. They have been tested with small dogs and cats, She had no reaction when she was tested, but now seems to have a prey drive. Sam is a very mellow dog and is not excited by other animals (except Cows)
  25. Update on Sam. The Chiro and laser therapy for his LS has done wonders. He no longer takes ANY medication. Is leading MIMI on the walks, climbs (actually runs) the stairs with no problems. He jumps when he gets excited, and has even picked up some toys and played. As a non believer in alternative medicine, I am now convinced.
