  1. Thinking of Nube this morning. I really hope the meds start to kick in. I can only imagine how stressed you are. Good luck on the drive back. Get better fast Nube!
  2. Love that suggestion! Will try it and see what happens. I also like the threat to leave the pup with the frreinds that love him/her. We make the same threats- but ours are more of an offer "you want him?"
  3. Hahaha! I agree that some just like to whine. I am hoping it is a phase. Sadie seemed to whine a lot when she was younger and eventually stopped. I hope it's the case here. I think being able to do more walking now and thinking more about entertaining him with something in the evenings will help.
  4. No thoughts here as I am one of the lucky ones that hasn't had to learn about OS the hard way. But I am very sorry that you lost him so suddenly and in that manner. My condolences to your family.
  5. Yes Kim, have a safe trip. Wish there was something we could do. I will tell you something I forgot yesterday, I am not allergic to stinging insects, but I got stung by a wasp in the ankle bone in late August. My husband was not concerned and said it would top hurting in 20 minutes. Well, it hurt for 2 weeks, stayed swollen for at least a week, and I still have a black mark on my ankle from the sting and it's been over three months. I think it is where I got stung. It's possible Nube did get stung in a bad spot. Cold packs may help the swelling and feel good. But after 48 hours I think you're supposed to use warm. Kisses to Nube.
  6. X-pen in the kitchen. Leave some dirty clothes you don't care about with him, DAP, melatonin, muzzle if he will chew, radio/tv, and belly band. Also, if you have a video camera then record him and see when he starts-up. Maybe there is a place or person who can doggy sit while you get him acclimated?? Good luck.
  7. I know I can be sore from a needle so why not Gary? The molar- I hope it gets better. Good news on everything else.
  8. Oooh, Diane, love this suggestion. He just has not been himself lately. I think the whining might be secondary to whatever else is going on. And it's just when we try the various options for what might help an he's still going, it's annoying. Really it is another behavior change and I want to nip it in the bud. We know he has a big mouth and we're ok with that!
  9. I agree with the letter and cookies- even hardened hearts may be willing to hold-off on calling if they understand why life in a home is so different for a grey and that he is new. Also, try melatonin and a DAP diffuser. And some of your dirty clothes. Maybe an x-pen would contain messes but make him more comfy? Kevin was this way too at first when we went into the ayrd. But eventually he did relax. I know you don't have time for eventually. Good luck! I know how much you love him.
  10. Kevin is a very vocal dog. Talk, talk, talk. We don't mind the singing, rooing, and talking, but the whining is making us both nuts. He has gotten whinier and whinier as time goes on. It probably started with his "puppy barking" (a high pitched demanding, needy bark). He does less of this now. We have NILF in place and have done what we know of to increase his frustration threshold. But whenever he wants something he cries. I.N.C.E.S.S.A.N.T.L.Y. at least several times a day. We have these things called jobs. I do mine from home. The whining baby in the background is not good in my job. Usually what he wants is a walk. And usually he doesn't start until I am done working. We try not to take him until he is quiet for a while. We try to totally ignore him. When he gets his walk he usually stops. But lately he's gotten some long walks and he still cried a little while later. I don't know if he's become an exercise junkie or what. He is just this Monday off restricted activity from a broken toe. We have been taking him on respectable walks of up to maybe 1.5 miles for a couple weeks now. While he was bandaged he just ran on 3 legs until he started showing some signs of being tired and then we turned him around and walked back. What can I do to stop the whining? I know a tired dog is a good dog but sometimes it seems we can't tire him out, or he's whining for some other reason. Walks usually magically cure whatever is ailing him. But he sometimes starts this when we cannot drop everything and attend to his every whim. I know he doesn't understand jobs and obligations. But, there must be something we can do to improve this before I put a screwdriver through my eardrum! Thanks for all replies.
  11. The link didn't work. But thanks for telling us, I will search around and see if I can find it.
  12. Is it hard or squishy (able to push the contents around)?
  13. It could also be an bump from a tick bite. Kevin reacts to tick saliva, so if a tick attaches he gets a bump that almost looks like a pimple. I get them too. I also get rashes. They take 1-4 weeks to disappear. Edited to ask- is this the only one he has? If not he could have a skin infection.
  14. Update! Kevin saw the vet and she x-rayed him on side of the break is still a little open. She said two more weeks leash walking but no more bandaging. Said it looks good. And he's staying on the antibiotics for those two weeks. I think I will be allowed to do those stretches in two weeks. Until then light walking. And he has been leaving it alone! It's looking better and better. We'll put more cream on it tonight. Vet says it's healing well. Whew! As an aside- he enjoyed today- went in and took over the place. He was surrounded by five techs and the vet in the waiting room. They were showering him with love. I told them he needs his own FB page.
  15. There is a place in CT that makes chicken jerky and duck feet and other yummies.
  16. Another update! Kevin's leg was looking red and angry Friday night. So when we removed the bandage yesterday we did a wrap splint around the toes, padding between toes, with just cling and vet wrap and just put a small pad over the sore with cling over it. He was fussing and chewing at it. We had to re-wrap. And then this morning he threw the part around his toes. So, we left it off. He licked and chewed his foot so i put more cream between his toes and took all bandaging off. He left it alone completely after a few hours. He did open the sore a little. Moving around. But overall the leg looks better and he is leaving it alone. We'll apply more ointment before bed. He sees the vet tomorrow. He does have a limp most of the time. It's slight. I hope it goes away. Right now it could be due the break, or maybe due to toenails on that foot being a bit too long (I am taming them back but they were only trimmed a few times in six weeks and I am afraid to push it with the broken toe so I have only nipped the tip. I'll have the vet cut it tomorrow- their clippers seem sharper. He also lost the outer layer of the pads on that foot. So I imagine it's sensitive/weird feeling. I really hope the vet gives us good news tomorrow and we get the limp resolved in the near future.
  17. Poor baby! Keep an eye on that and put a call in to the vet if you can. There is a such a thing as bacteria that is anti-biotic resistant or that only responds to particular antibiotics.
  18. I agree with others but have you had her tested for TBDs?
