  1. Kevin is 5, he turns 6 in December. He has always had an iron bladder. Suddenly a few months ago he started having accidents. Several trips to the vet and lots of tests came back totally normal. The vet attributed it to behavioral issues. Well now we don't wait for him to ask and put him out a lot more, especially after dinner. On Friday I noticed dribbles of urine on the carpet after he stretched. I got the vet to prescribe antibiotics. We were to bring another urine in this week. Last night he dribbled a half dollar size puddle on our bed. So we got him into the vet this morning. His prostate feels normal but the vet couldn't feel the whole thing. The x-ray looks like maybe his prostate is enlarged. So he will get an ultrasound next week. FIngers crossed we can find the problem and fix it. Is there anything else we should be exploring? Anyone have experience with this kind of thing?
  2. Kevin did this- peed and even pooped in his crate. Sometimes he was alone for as little as half an hour. ANd we emptied him. It wasn't every time but often enough. He was anxious. Gave him the run of the house and started with a few minutes and worked up. No damage. No accidents. He is fine when not confined. I'm not saying that's what's going on but it could be.
  3. The vet called- everything looks perfect.
  4. I have read about this also. I recall at least 24 hours in the crockpot. I have not done it myself though. Glad Violet is doing better!
  5. Jen, he doesn't do great on ABs. Depending on the length. He has had to do 30 days before and that was hard on him. He can do a couple weeks. But maybe not of the stronger stuff. I'll talk to the vet about it today.
  6. Yes, that is true. When these things have happened he has recently been out, except the first time. But he hasn't been going out more often otherwise. During the day he is only going out more often when I make him. He goes all night just fine and holds it as long as it's raining. i would think if it was a UTI he would have problems at other times of the day or more than once a week/every two weeks. He did go out more tonight. Asked twice. Maybe because we have been praising him so much for going out and for asking?? Maybe a UTI? I hope we find out soon.
  7. Oh he gets plenty of treats to lure and then as reward. He would rather sleep than expend ALL that effort to stand and walk outside.
  8. I would think UTI if he did it more frequently (less pee more often). This is 4 accidents in about 6 weeks. The vet thinks it's Gamo- that Gamo is getting attention that Kevin wants. It happens only in the evenings. Often after we're sitting around petting the boys. I have only been "dragging" him outside since he had his second accident. I grab his collar and lead him out. I don't actually drag him. But sometimes must coerce him to get him up so I can lead him. Also I wonder if it's behavioral because he has stopped telling us he wants out. And he basically peed right in front of DH last night. He did not fuss, sniff or ask for out. He pees normal amounts/frequency on walks. We did CBC and chemistry, urinalysis. Holding off on the culture until we see how many white blood cells in his urine. We might do an x-ray if he has blood in the urine to check for stones. But today was $290. The culture would be another $125. The vet says there is a strong correlation between the white blood cells and uti. But when they aren't elevated those cultures have always come back negative. If things look ok otherwise and we work on behavior but he has more accidents we will do a culture. They do check for infection in the urinalysis. Oh and he pooped a big stinky poop in the planter outside the office door!
  9. Back from the vet. We'll know tomorrow but everything looks ok so far. The vet thinks it is behavioral.
  10. Thanks! Last time it was first morning urine. This time it won't be. But both dogs have high urine Ph. I think Kevin is 7.5 and Gamo 8.0. No evidence of infection last time. I think they did culture then too. It was a lot of expensive testing.
  11. Yes, they did a urinalysis maybe 3 weeks ago. I wonder if he has crystals. His PH is high. So maybe that is it (crystals). Appointment at 3:15.
  12. Kevin is 5.75 years old. has been perfectly potty trained since day 2 and we have had him for 2 3/4 years. He holds it all day sometimes. I offer them out many times during the day and often am ignored. I have to lure him off the sofa and then physically drag him outside. Suddenly he started peeing in the house. The past 6 weeks or so he has had 4 potty incidents. He never told us he had to go. At first we weren't sure it was him. But it is. The first time he peed a lake on the living room carpet. Clearly he needed to go but didn't tell us. We may not have forced him outside after dinner, our bad. Within a week he peed on the porch of our other house. Ok, again, he might have had to go. There was no more than 3 hours between the last time he had been out and the accident. Quite possibly less. But we took him to the vet and medically he is fine. We started watching him closely and limiting his movement in the evening. Then last week he peed a little in the living room near where he peed before. He had been out after dinner. No more than 3 hours had elapsed. We cleaned everything again and yes, we used enzymatic cleaner both times. Tonight he was on the bed with me and Gamo. He got off and walked into the living room and got a pat from DH . Then he walked a couple of feet away and started peeing. He didn't stop until DH chased him. I dragged him outside and praised him when he went. He did pee but it was not a full bladder by any means. He finished a long walk not more than 2 hours before. All of these accidents are after dinner in the evening. None during the day. At first I was upset that he has stopped alerting when he needs to go out. But now he's just letting loose in front of us? This is really troubling. I don't know what is going on. It's like he has no boundaries anymore. This should not be a problem at his age. I am getting desperate and am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
  13. Thank you for asking! I will watch it and if it doesn't improve by Tuesday I will make an appointment. I assumed it was some kind of scratch.
  14. I noticed a spot in Gamo's eye yesterday. It looks like a little dot of opaqueness. I hoped it was a film that would blink away. But it didn't move. Today it is still present. His eyes are super clear (though the pic doesn't reflect that) and it doesn't appear to go deeper than then surface. Still, it is not normal. Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what it might be? The spot is the dull round/oval dot about 1/3 down from the top of his eye. It is not the round and bright reflection at the very top or the rectangular reflection at the middle/bottom. This is best pic I have been able to get.
  15. The vet said they see no signs of infection. I brought the urine within 15 minutes to the vet. I am not sure when it was tested.
  16. We tested the boys' urine after two recent accidents. We think Kevin was the culprit. The urine samples of both boys looked good except for the ph. The Ph was high in both boys: 7.5 for Kevin and 8.0 for Gamo. 6.5-7.0 is ideal. Both have concentrated urine. They both eat the same food (Orijen with some Honest Kitchen mixed in). I don't want my boys to develop crystals but am not sure what I can do about this or how worried I should be. Has anyone else dealt with this?
  17. Maybe there's something in the air on the East coast right now. People have been acting crazy around here the past few days! Could be affecting the dogs too!
  18. I will take sample to the vet if this happens again, but I think this one is on us. Usually they get a big walk after dinner but yesterday they had spent the day running around a lot outside and exploring and DH had to work early so we got distracted and forgot to make the after dinner offer and there was no walk last night. They seemed totally disinterested since they ran their butts around all day. And yes, they did get attacked a week and a half ago. Interesting point. But, they seem fine going by that house. This is something they have been doing a while. Getting closer and closer to the house. Gamo started it. Kevin followed suit. I would go out with them and try to get them to go to the other areas of the yard and they would wander back and pee. Or just pee as i was leading them. We will try leashing and watering the grass even more. Leashing isn't going to be as easy for first out. They are going out as often as they are willing. i work from home and I offer them out every few hours. They usually simply refuse to move until DH comes home. Usually that's the second out of the day. SOMETIMES I can get them out IF I can get them up for a treat. They go out at least 5 times a day. They have about 5 fenced acres with a pond and fields and woods two days a week. They spend a lot of time running and exploring on those days. The other days they get walks and outs. They get a big walk after our dinner (and about an hour after theirs) nearly every night. They won't play in the other yard. They won't chase toys. This yard is boring. They just want to potty and then go back in. They will actually walk out into the yard but then circle around to pee nearer to the house! And yes, they are doing it at the other house too. They go out after their dinner usually before they get a walk. They eat and then we eat. Then they get to go out for a long, brisk walk. But the peeing in the house is more of a red herring. We have never had a problem before. It was our fault. But I wondered if this peeing near the house is leading to peeing in the house. It was just thinking out loud. The main concern is getting them to stop peeing by the house. They get walks but they can't be walked every time they need to potty. So how do we get them to stop peeing by the house. That was the real question. And thank you. They are spectacular. I will remind you of that when they are naughty and they can come live with you and Hester!
  19. We have had Gamo for four months and Kevin over 2.5 years. Kevin used to poop and pee away from the house. He wasn't always in the furthest corner of the yard but it seems great compared to what is going on now. Since we got Gamo they have adopted each other's bad habits. Maybe a month and a half ago they started synchronized peeing when they went out. They have been getting closer and closer to the house. Now they are pooping within 5 feet of the house. And now they are peeing right outside the door. I try to lead them away but once they step foot outside they do their by squats and let go before i can even get through the doorway. Last night someone peed in the livingroom. It's the first accident ever for both of them. Clearly whoever did it needed to go. But no one seemed to want to go out after dinner. They frequently refuse to go out and hold it for 12 hours. So I didn't think much of it. Needless to say they will be forced to go out after dinner from now on. I have to wonder if their bad potty habits are now making their way into the house. I am not sure the incident is related. But I can't seem to get them both away rom the house. You try to lead or chase them away from the house and one or both will surely just pee right where they are. I am not sure how to stop this habit and make them potty away from the house. Suggestions are appreciated.
  20. I have used rubbing alcohol- soaked the fabric and then slowly pulled in the direction of the fur while holding skin taught. A little at a time. Make sure it's soaked. If it dries, it gums-up again.
  21. I took Gamo to the vet yesterday. We were gone around an hour. Kevin was left home because I did not have the wagon available. Since we got home yesterday Kevin has seemed pouty and jealous. THis morning he snapped at Gamo when Gamo was scouting for toys near the bed he was laying in. Kevin has generally been moody since yesterday and giving us serious stinkeye. It seems, but maybe I am crazy or totally wrong, that he thinks time I spent with Gamo was some type of favoritism. ANd he still seems crabby about the whole thing. Am I crazy? And if not, then any suggestions? I gave them both calming tea and will take them for a short walk before I leave. I plan to have either DH or I take Kevin somewhere this afternoon so he feels he got some favoritism. I also want to try to ignore Gamo more. He will weasel-in when we are giving Kevin attention. Kevin has never cared. But I think he cared about the trip away from him. When they had their fight two weeks ago it was after Kevin had been left alone a couple of hours. I am sensing a patten...
  22. I can't believe it has been two years. I still think about him. He was very special.
  23. Honest Kitchen now makes a calming tea. We've only used it once so far but it seems to work! We paid $11 for a container, which has many, many servings. I think the chews are much more expensive because big dogs need a lot of them to work.
  24. Judy, you're funny! I hope so! I will say we had a foster once and the girls got into it and it was seemingly less viscous but there was a little blood that time. So hopefully the boys are all puff and it will get better from here. They are currently in the same room. Granted, I am here too. But they are closer, even if they are not interacting.
