  1. for a good update! Hope the improvement continues!
  2. I couldn't log in from work when I saw this this morning, but you and Deeni have been in my thoughts and prayers all day. I hope she has a restful night (and you too!) and has made some improvements by morning.
  3. I have had Lila for about 10 weeks and her poop has always been soft. After just one day of pumpkin added to her food it is so much better! Even rolled on the street! I knew this day would come someday - discussing poop on the internet.
  4. Lila has been shedding like crazy too. I assumed it was seasonal, but it is good to get a confirmation of that. I saw her shake in the sunshine and could see the fur go flying. Looks like we will be brushing everyday for a while.
  5. Arrow woke me up this morning at 6:00 (he doesn't have mercy on weekends) and I stumbled out the door with him. It was dark and quiet outside, and to my surprise he pulled me down the driveway, around the block, did his business, and we headed back to bed. I think he may have been so sleepy and disoriented that he forgot what he was afraid of. Maybe this is the key-- early early morning walks, before anything scary wakes up. Unless I dreamt the entire experience, as he refused our second morning walk attempt! I wish Lila slept until 6:00! She had me up at 4:00 this morning. I am glad you found something that worked (at least once). I think I may have also. I took Lila for a walk on a state trail today and yesterday. Train tracks were converted to a walking/biking trail. It is in the woods, so its quiet, has lots of good stuff to sniff, and leashed dogs are welcome. She loved it! And as a bonus she gets to practice her car riding skills (which could also use some work) and got to meet a very well behaved dog. If you have something like that near you, I would suggest it. I think because it is so different they don't associate it with the scary walks in the neighborhood, but I am hoping that eventually she will come to realize all walks are fun.
  6. I am glad you are making some progress! I have no suggestions because I am going through something similar with my girl. I know what scared her - fireworks - but since then she doesn't want to go for a walk. I don't know if I should just take her for walks (she will go but is clearly unhappy and keeps turning for home) or let her stay home. It has been 3 weeks and she is still hyper sensitive to noises that did not bother her before. Hoping both of them can get over it.
  7. Lila's toenails are not horrible, but longer than I would like them. Her foster mom said to do them every two weeks, but even Dremeling once a week is not making any real progress. I am new to the Dremel and Lila's toenails are black, so I don't know what is going on in there. How fast do the quicks recede? How often can I Dremel without causing her any pain? She is such a good girl and just lies there quietly when I Dremel.
  8. Lila is getting better in the yard. She even rolled over for belly rubs this afternoon. Walks are still a bit scary for her. She goes, but does not enjoy it. Unfortunately she does not have any dog friends who could be her walking buddy for a while. She used to come running into my bedroom when my alarm went off in the morning and would dance around until I got dressed and was ready to go. This morning she stood up then layed right back down.
  9. When Lila and I were out for our walk Saturday night a big, like professional quality, firework went off right over our heads. It was very loud and immediately followed by another. My poor girl went into total panic mode - bucking, spinning, pulling, and running. Thankfully, her collar from 2 Hounds Design worked perfectly. If a dog was ever going to slip a collar, that was the situation! She pulled me right back home. I am glad that she thinks home is a safe place. But now she is afraid to go outside. She won’t step away from the door on our before bed turn out. She has been going 12-13 hours between pees. She also hates going for a walk, which used to be her favorite thing. Prior to this she was not at all concerned with loud noises and wouldn’t even lift her head in a thunderstorm. She was doing better yesterday and was happy and playing in the yard as long as it was daylight but this afternoon there was some loud construction noise and now she refuses to go out even in the daylight. She runs away when I pick up her leash. I have tried really yummy treats, but she shuts down so quickly I can’t even get her one before she is too upset to even eat it. Will I ever get my confident, curious, fun girl back?
  10. Congratulations! She is a lucky pup! She also looks a lot like my Lila; sabling on her neck, striped tail, one ear that stands up and one that doesn't.
  11. Darcy has proven that she is a fighter, sounds like she is trying to fight this off as well.
  12. I am glad this worked out for so many of you! I got a coupon for a free bag. Don't know why some only got a $7 coupon.
  13. Great news! Sounds like you have a great vet too.
  14. I appear to have the strange dog who does not want to sleep by me. Lila is very new (will be here a week tomorrow) but since day one she has been obviously uncomfortable sleeping in my bedroom with the door closed. If I open the door she runs out and can't be dragged back in. I was making her tough it out, she would eventually settle, but last night she had enough! Getting up every 1/2 hour and panting in my face then whining at 2:30. I took her out and she had a lovely time sniffing the night air, but no potty. When we came in I moved her bad back to the kitchen where she spends most of the day and she was content there. I guess that is where she will stay....
  15. Here is an offer for a free bag of HealthWise, Innova, California Naturals, EVO, or Karma dog food. https://www.naturaadvantage.com/ If it is not something your dog eats, it would make a nice donation to your adoption group or local shelter.
  16. Congratulations! The two of you are lucky to have found one another.
  17. I am glad for your good news! Since we are kind of neighbors, and I will soon be in the market for a good vet.....Who are these wonderful people? Thanks! I go to North Heights Veterinary Clinic, 1001 West Northland Avenue in Appleton. They are the vets who take care of all of the greyhounds for the adoption group I adopt from- RGA (Retired Greyhound Athletes) There are five vets on staff but my main vets are Dr. Byom and Dr. McDermott. I also see a holistic vet in Green Bay- Dr. Karen Strickfaden at Countrycare Animal Complex, 4235 Elmview Road. And there is a 24 hour emergency and critical care vet clinic in Appleton- Fox Valley Animal Referral Center, 4706 New Horizons Blvd. in Appleton. They have specialists on staff like Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Radiology and Ophthalmology. I highly recommend North Heights. I plan to adopt through RGA. I am making a note of this. Thank you again! Have you been to a Meet and Greet yet? I went to the one last month here in Green Bay. I have some work and personal travel in the next couple months and need to get my fence completed, so I won't be ready for a hound until at least the end of July. I was planning on completing my application this weekend though.

  20. Glad you got good news. Now, good luck witholding treats from that cute little Ollie.
  21. I am so sorry you have to go through this again. Wishes of strenght and comfort coming your way.
  22. My sympathies for the loss of your BooBoo and your mom. May you find comfort in their memories.
  23. Thanks again for the warm welcome. It is nice to know I am not the only one who took a while to take the plunge to sign up. As only a wannabe greyhound owner I didn't think I had anything to contribute. But now I have questions for all of you experts.
  24. Welcome - from one newbie to another!
