  1. What an incredible image. I would be completely jolted by a visit like that. Cosmo sounds like she was an amazing lady. :heart My thoughts are with you and your DH. Sometimes, they just leave giant pawprint holes.
  2. I took Aston to my friend's house to run off-leash in her fenced backyard; she had two horses at the time, and instead of running at all, he went and stood with the herd with a big grin on his face until they chased him away. Then, he went back and stood with the herd.. and so on, and so on. Ever since then, whenever he sees a horse out on the street (parade), in a trailer, etc., he WHINES AND WHINES and prances and cries, only stopping if he gets to stand by the horse, or if we drive far enough away that he can't see them anymore. The only other time that he gets this worked up is if we pull up to a GH event and he sees his buddies. I've chalked it up to him feeling a kinship with those other "giant dogs."

    Giselle Is Gone

Giselle was such a beautiful girl, and so lucky to have a mom who engaged her and took such great care of her. Godspeed, sweetie. :heart I am so sorry...
  4. What a sweet, sweet face. I have grown to love so many hounds on GT, but Tiny's photo in your signature alone has always pulled at my heartstrings. The world is missing a very special guy. I am so sorry.
  5. I am so, so sorry. My thoughts are with you and Gracy. Run free, sweetie. :heart
  6. I don't have any advice, but wishing the best for sweet Augie. :heart
  7. I'm glad they're okay, especially Fenway! So he was the only one eating 200 fish oil capsules?? Aston hasn't eaten anything particularly inedible since we've had him, but in his medical records, I found that he gulped down an entire BOTTLE of someone else's Deramaxx and chased those with a pair of designer sunglasses. I think we've gotten off pretty lucky.
  8. Only the best thoughts for your pups. They'll be fine.
  9. I am so, so sorry. Giselle is one very lucky pup.
  10. Bah, vets. I asked Aston's vet about what I thought to be a corn back when I first saw the circular outline on his toepad, but the vet blew me off and said that whatever it was COULDN'T be contributing to his limp, because clearly he has a (foggily-diagnosed) previous-mystery-cartilage-tear. However, when I took Aston back because of wrist swelling some months later (different leg) and pointed out that I had hulled the corn and it seemed to help, the vet responded with Oh yes, it's good to hull those, they are very painful for the dog. I still go to him because he does seem to know what he's doing for the most part, but I also do my own research on the side. I also haven't tried duct tape. I just bought a bunch, maybe I'll try it..
  11. I highly recommend periodic hulling along with the addition of bee propolis. (I know, I know, it's another one that sounds off-the-wall ) I don't have special instruments to hull Aston's corn -- I just use my thumbnail, or if my nails are too short, I use a larger flat-headed micro screwdriver (carefully!!). In addition, I give him a capsule of bee propolis every morning with his breakfast -- since I added that, the corn has shrunk (even without hulling) and has become shallower. About a month after starting the propolis, it seemed like his body was starting to expel the corn, which made it even harder for him to walk on that foot, but lots easier to hull the corn... bee propolis is expensive-ish for a supplement (~$15-20/bottle of 60 capsules), but not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Worth a shot, definitely. Beaming good thoughts to your poor girl, and poor you!! Edit: In case it helps, I use Premier One bee propolis (white bottle with big maroon label). Another edit: His corn wasn't discovered until I started reading up on them here on GT; we got him when he was almost 7, and he had been diagnosed with a "mystery limp" ever since he got off the track at two. It seems that this was the problem all along, and the corn didn't change size at all (for several months) prior to starting the propolis.... Another another edit: Got the propolis idea off of a thread here on GT :blah
  12. Beaming good thoughts and sending prayers. Your boy is gorgeous!!!
  13. A few days ago, I was just thinking about how spam-free GT is. It's awesome!! You and Trudy do an amazing job keeping this place up. I used to frequent other boards (non-dog), but eventually they have all gotten so over-run that it's depressing. What is the biggest factor in spam protection? Disallowing free email domains?
  14. No advice to add, just want to beam good thoughts your way. Wishing you the best in a complicated situation. Please keep us posted, and please don't feel that you are being judged for whatever you decide, whether it is to get help or rehome Jesse. You know the situation better than any of us, and it is so great that you are thinking things through.
  15. I am so, so sorry. You have done your very best. Crying for your family; may Rainey find joy and peace at the Bridge with her buddies. I am so sorry..
