  1. Two days to go until our vet appointment. Had all the others out for a good long run today but being overprotective me, could not let Sam run. I took a picture, just to see what you think, am I driving myself crazy for no reason - I definitely see a difference - why doesn't the vet
  2. Sorry to be late in getting back here. We did NOT get x-rays this morning but only because another dog arrived just before we did that require emergency surgery and they asked if we could come back. As I have been in the same place as the people that brought their dog in, how could I possibly say no. So we are now scheduled for Wednesday - first time I can do it with my schedule for next week. Sam is doing okay, I am being wimpy and overprotective and won't let him run in the big yard until we have the x-rays but with some metacam on a daily baisis we will make it through till Wednesday..
  3. Djsgreys - Edmonton Alberta - thanks!
  4. Thanks again. Its strange how a limp can put terror into your heart. I have had dogs all my life, and never thought twice about a limp, until I had greys. I also saw a couple of replies where the poster said the vet just confirmed what they already knew. That is what happened with Suzy - I knew from the first time I saw her pull up while running in the yard and limp a little. And I know there is something wrong with Sam. There is a visible swelling - and I pointed that out to the vet as well. I did think of going to the E-vet but the three clinics here are so NOT greyhound savy and so ridiculously expensive that I advise people against going. I really like my vet, and her prices are the most reasonable around but I also know that she has missed making an osteo diagnosis after x-rays on at least one hound. They do digital though so will ask that they be read by a radiologist. Will check back in and let you know the results after we get the x-rays tomorrow
  5. I am so sorry. Although their time with us is never long enough, this is especially true when we open our hearts and homes to senior hounds. May knowing how much joy he had in his forever home with you, help ease the pain of his loss. Run free, Will
  6. Thanks for the advice. I don't want to make my vet look bad - honestly we have a good relationship and with 10 hounds I really appreciate the deep discounts that she gives me. I just don't get why she is so insistent on not doing an x-ray - usually she starts any vet visit with "and what is your diagnosis of the problem" and ends with "well I really was hoping you were wrong, just once, but you are right again" So normally we do have a good relationship. I just made an appointment for Saturday. My vet is away and will see the other one in the clinic and insist on x-rays. The limp, the panting - are there other symptoms I should be looking for to tell them about? Have I missed something really important that is making her think this way?
  7. Just looking for some advice on what I need to tell the vet to convince her to do x-rays. Sam had a significant tear injury at the beginning of Jan so the vet first said his limping was due to overcompensating for that injury and did I chiro treatment. He was a little better for a couple of days, but the limp reappeared. Back to the vet, asking again for an x-ray, told again that it is not necessary and Sam had another chiro treatment. I have told the vet that the limp is intermittent. That Sam seems to be in pain (heavy panting at times) but I have not found any tender spots on his leg. She keeps telling me to put my pretend DVM away - that it is not osteo. But something is telling me it is and I want x-rays done. Any advice - short of changing vets that is?
  8. No flames here! You were fostering. Yes, maybe the intent was IF ALL WORKED OUT WELL you would fail fostering. If the dogs really don't get along, then all is not working out well, so you are fostering - no longer with intent. I have fostered over 50 dogs, and I loved every single one of them. There were a few failures along the way (hence my siggie) but there were way more than did NOT stay for various reasons. The ones that I did fail with fit seamlessly into our household, as if they had always been here - adjusting easily to our routine and fully accepted by all the other hounds in the pack. The right girl will be out there for you and the boys. In the meantime, you are providing the guidance in adjusting to home life, an important step in her finding her forever couch.
  9. I am so sorry. What a lucky girl to find your home at 11 years of age - to be allowed to blossom and be the girl she was meant to be. Godspeed Meeka

Hilda, I am so sorry. Your beautiful girl, whose love of life shone through in her BDR posts ,was one of my GT favourite ladies. Run free sweet Pipi-Francine, you will be greytly missed here.
  14. My deepest sympathy. Godspeed Grace
  15. Thank you for stepping up and giving Jimmy a true forever home. I will never understand how someone doesn't want their friend anymore but I am thankful that there are people like you who are there for them. Although his time with you was not nearly long enough he left knowing how much he was loved and that he would be in your heart forever. Godspeed Jimmy
  16. I'm so sorry for your loss. Godspeed Sidney
  17. I am so sorry. What a lovely tribute to your special boy. I know that Suzy was at the bridge waiting to greet her gentleman friend and we will look for a new bright star in the night sky tonight. Run free, sweet man, you will be loved always and never be forgotten. Godspeed
  18. I picked up Scully last Saturday. She was a bounce and came with eye drops - Maxitrol (which had been prescribed in Sept but never used). I have been giving her the drops 3 times daily and just realized that I am now out.. Tomorrow is a holiday here so regular vet is not open. I do have a new bottle of Maxidex. Anyone with experience that can tell me if it is okay to substitue the Maxidex for the Maxitrol until Tuesday morning. From the labels Maxitrol - antiinflammatory/antibiotic Neomycin 3.5mg/ml polymyxin B sulfate 6000 ?l/ml dexamethasone 0.1% Maxidex antiimflammatory dexamethasone 0.1%
  19. Vegas - we will all be thinking of you and sending our very best wishes.

    Silver

What a beautiful, loving tribute to your boy. I am so sorry that he had to leave you. Through the tears, I am sure I see the dancing star in the night sky that is Silver. Godspeed Silver, you were so well loved.
  21. Thanks everyone for being here and sending all the healing wishes for Sam - the power of GT did it again A few days after the accident Last night when he got home I really cannot believe what a greyt job the vet did.
  22. We got about 1/2 of the stitches out last night. The vet wants to leave the rest for at least another week. So one more week of keeping him away from the - time to try the towel or pj bottoms.
  23. Well - we made it! Sam's stitches are due to come out today. We didn't end up using anything to keep him away from them - right up until yesterday he never touched them at all - although he did manage to pull his drain out. I cannot believe how well it has healed!
  24. Judy, I am so very sorry that Saint had to leave you. Run free Saint, knowing how well loved you are and how much you will be missed.
  25. Dexter has always been an early riser - sometime between 2:30 and 4:00 am so I can really sympathize. We have looked for reasons, and eliminated reasons, and sometimes we actually get 3-4 days in a row when he sleeps till 5 or 6 but then we revert right back to the early rising. He's well exercised, well fed, not too warm or cold,. If i holler at him, he'll lie back down but the moment there is any movement he is ready to go. I've adjusted to the schedule but am still looking for solutions. Good luck
