  1. I would take him as is, because I have a feeling that if you were interested in adopting him, you might do it regardless of any health issues.
  2. I adopted 10.5 year old Treasure when she was 8.5 years old. She was the second hound that I adopted at age 8.5 years. Both have been very active and lots of fun. Loca (the first 8.5 year old adoptee) lived until 13.5. There are never any guarentees and I don't think "older" should ever be a reason to not adopt. Personally I love the older ones. They have lots of spunk and for the most part, what you see is what you get .
  3. Here is some good info about how to use martingales...
  4. I'm sorry, I didn't realize that Magic was only leashed when you were home. I actually tethered Loca to my waist for 1.5 months whenever I was home. The martingale came off whenever I left the house. She was muzzled when I wasn't home.I use a breakaway tag collar on my dog. That way, it will come apart if necessary. Krissy, if you don't think anything bad can happen with a martingale when the person is home, ask Lisa. Max had an awful experience.
  5. How scary! Hope she heals quickly and is home soon.
  6. Cool? No. Very dangerous ? Yes. Your dog can be strangled to death once the leash gets caught on something in your home (as it did today). As the dog struggles to free himself, the leash pulls the martingale tighter and tighter. A shorter leash will not fix this problem. I agree. It's not a good thing to do at all. I have a friend whose dog's martingale got caught on something in the house and it was very scary. Luckily she was home at the time. Imagine if the leash got caught, also? There are many safer alternatives, such as crating, baby gates, anything is better than a martingale and leash inside.

  10. They are toasting to us today, Lynn
  11. What a lovely story. Happy Birthday Lady Bug
  12. November 24, 2002. I was looking for a cat safe hound. I ended up at the now defunct Georgetown Greyhound Adoption, where Phoenix was the only dog up for adoption. He was a bounce and was absolutely perfect. It was love at first sight for both of us; he went home with me that day. I miss him so much. I wish he was still here with me. Phene, I hope you're hanging out with Loca and your friends. Have fun! Osteo sucks
  13. I remember when you met Kevin and how handsome he was.
  14. Gabe, too? I'm so sorry Glad he's feeling good. Great that Faye Opps is having such a good time, but that doesn't surprise me at all
  15. Bruise. Treasure had one that covered her entire underside from a fall outside. I ended up taking her to the ever.
  16. Osteosarcoma is always in the bone itself, and almost never crosses joints. When we see signs of cancer on x-rays that affects both bones on either side of a joint, it's usually not osteo, but another type of tumor. The most common locations for osteo in the front leg are proximal humerus (near the shoulder) and distal radius (near the wrist). And the most common locations in the back leg are distal femur and proximal tibia (both near the knee). The way I was taught to remember these locations in vet school was "away from the elbow, and toward the knee". However, osteosarcoma can affect any location in any bone - those are just the most common sites. my friend's greyhound had osteo in a rib. he survived quite a while; over a year without treatment.
  17. Thank you for posting the link. It was painful to watch but I now I hhave some idea of what it looks like.
  18. I haven't been here for a while. Just want to pass my good wishes to all members, old and new. Osteo is a bitch. Jen, Phene's osteo was in the same location as Faye Oops (great news, Laura!). Of course it's not ridiculous to worry, especially since you've recently been through this, but like others have said, you've exhausted your membership
