  1. My daughter's Yogi blew all his pads on a romp through Holyoke MA when he got loose while being dropped off at his foster home. As far as I know, the foster mom--Lisa-- kept him calm and restricted his activity. I do recall some talk abut having to carry all 80 pounds of him up and down the stairs. Anyway, by the time he came to live with my daughter, his feet were fine. I have some indoor booties made by Thera-paws that are padded and have velcro fasteners. I ordered these for Martin when he broke his toe. Unfortunately, I ordered medium and we really needed large. You might want to take a look at these on their website. They look quite comfy. Good luck!!!!!
  2. I'm a big fan of multi-tasking during a dental while they are out. Good luck to both of you. You're doing the right thing!
  3. Nothing to add. This thread is fascinating.
  4. When Martin was licking the area around his broken toe, we kept him muzzled, especially at night. Also, he couldn't remove the sock when he was muzzled. I did have to duct tape the inside and outside of the muzzle because we didn't have a stool guard at the time.
  5. Last summer Emmet skidded along pavement before hitting a tree while chasing a cat. Your pup's injuries look at lot like Emmet's. Thankfully there were mostly superficial scrapes but I know he was really aching. I hope Streamer is doing better.
  6. I agree with the fostering, too. These a BIG dogs with lots of surface. Setting limits on where they can go and hang out is a must. I don't allow mine in the dining room, in the guest room, in the walk-in closet, or on the furniture, except for one sofa in the family room. Sometimes we let Emmet on our bed. The thing is, you get to decide.
  7. When Martin came to us after living at the kennel for a year and a half, he paced his water drinking to his opportunities to go outside. If we asked "outside?" and opened the door, he'd head right for the water dish first and load up before going out. Otherwise, he didn't drink much in his first days with us.
  8. Both Martin and Emmet are doing the same. Last weekend we took them to the Greyhound Friends Holiday Open House. Folks were loving on them and I could see the hair flying around. Emmet is white with a few black patches so the loose white hair really stands out. They must have thought we never brush our pups. (Well, we could be better at the brushing....this early winter shedding took us by surprise.)
  9. My sympathies--Emmet ate 6 croissants this morning while we were out shoveling snow. How he got the hard plastic container open I'll never know. The thing I wondered about with the pumpkin muffins--were there any raisins? Would that be something to worry about?
  10. I voted no daily walks. We walked twice a day until Emmet's corn got so bad. Then three months after we added Martin to our family, he broke his toe so no daily walks at all from October to now. We've just started walking them again, once or twice a week.
  11. Well, for folks following this afternoon of angst, I did finally manage to post Emmet's picture into the cow doggies thread.
  12. Whoopie! Now if I could only remember what I did.
  13. OK--one more try and then I need to stop and clean my house.
  14. Another try. Are we having fun yet? Ooops..back to the drawing board.
  15. Another first time test. This one's heading for the cowdoggie thread if it works. Thank you, Praveen. Ouch. Way too big. Giant cowdoggie.
  16. Oh geez, I just gotta say that I'm thankful I'm not dealing with this but I sure have learned a lot about treating mange!
  17. I didn't vote because both of mine have their dewclaws, they ARE a problem, but I'm not thinking of removing them.
  18. I'm wondering about Martin....He's had several accidents this week. We are bringing in a urine sample tomorrow AM and we have an appointment with the vet on Saturday. Hoping it's just UTI but what diagnostics are needed for the vet to diagnose kidney disease?
